In this video I use my x-carve CNC machine to carve some 3d wave patterns into some solid soapstone. This is another quick video for my A-Level art project on water waves, that I have nearly finished now.
Even though it is not that well related to my channel I decided to upload it here anyway because I have not released many videos recently.
There are lots of new projects to come, I just need to find the time to edit them!

You did a great job on your video I have a couple suggestions for you though. A slightly harder material up from soapstone would be like a man made quartz. My other suggestion is cutting your stone projects underwater or with water due to the IMMENSE heat and dust you generate. Water well keep your bit's cool extending tool life and eliminate the need for a dust collector. Try and find a diamond coated mill or a bit called a finger bit specifically for stone but requires a larger collet for a 2.2kw spindle. Lastly for polishing using a 200 then 400 then 800 then 1500 and finally 3000 grit diamond pads will make whatever Stone you have your stone pop and Glisan shiny as can be. I hope this helps you, I own a granite shop so I understand what you're trying to achieve.

Dude, you usually do the carving by pouring a constant stream of water onto the drill bits, so that they don't heat up from friction and warp. This is going to destroy your bits pretty easily.

Nice job great results - water cooling - better yet - mist cooling would help prevent excessive wear rates although I can see why it was impractical here.

i have been watching your progress , i think you are best suited to study mechanical engineering in your college studies that is your forte. dont waste your talent in a b/a degree i would go into some program of engineering . people who go into technical/vocational studies are far better prepared to meet the challenges facing todays problems . its a good thing to fall back on a stock and trade studies than any other profession . unless you are a studious student and could challenge a position in the medical field ie; a physician or medical specialist , the world needs people who know how to build things .seriously take this under consideration..

Has this been used to carve patterns on wood or bone for handle scales of knives? That would be nice to see, especially with a fairly thick and deeply colored wood like oak or redwood.

Have you progressed recently with this DU=IY milling? I'm interested in CNC milling bass relief Marble decorations.. So Material would be maybe 12mm thick at the most.... I have seen commercial CNS machine using a lot of water in a curtain around the cutting bit... would obviously help to keep things cool and help wash away the dust. I'll go look see if you have any more recent uploads! Great project!!

Clearly you have never handled a piece of soapstone. It can be scratched with a fingernail and easily carved -by hand-with basic woodworking tools.
