Cinnamon, John & Hartists, Thanks so much again for this painting...what I love about the way you teach is that I can observe a technique in a particular video (for instance, in this video, the blocking in of tones to start and then seeing how the objects are brought forward through layering), and even if I don't necessarily want to replicate this painting, I know I can use the techniques to do a landscape of my own choosing, and that's awesome. Thanks! Joe

IF you can not watch a live video after a broadcast it will be available and streaming smoothly generally within 6 hours. The video is Processed through youtube and that makes it unavailable or glitchy for a few hours and then it is fine. Some youtubers make it private after a live but we like to leave it up for the people who caught the tail end of the Live stream as it will let those viewers finish. Super odd I know. It will be there for replay soon promise !!

I’ve just discovered your channel while trying to learn to paint, and I’ve been binge watching episode after episode. I related so much to your comments on the “quiet” type of epilepsy being misunderstood. I suffered from petite mal epilepsy from age 4 to the time I started high school. I was one of the lucky ones to “grow out of” childhood epilepsy. Thank you! You’re awesome!!!

It's so nice to just follow along with you, coz even though I'm at art school, I get so much from painting along, like all the skills and the fun and relaxation after drilling down all day at the easel. i truly love you and your painting. i love the way you can teach a beginner like myself especially your way of teaching is excellent - but with this video i have found it very difficult to follow you. Even when i have watched it many times, i feel like your rushing, not explaining how to use the brush-and your hat is always in the way of the painting! i achieved the painting in the end but it got me a little stressful. Hi Cinnamon and John, wonderful video, again thank you for your amazing gifts and teaching style. Question on background painting. I notice that with some paintings you will paint the entire painting one color, and with some you paint the background with multiple divisions of color. Is there a rule for whether to paint a canvas with just one color, or not? This is probably a "duh" question for experienced painters, however I come from a watercolor and pastel background and with watercolors for landscapes you paint the entire painting by glazing layers, and making the entire background first, mostly.

So.... here I am, painting for 3 weeks and I seen beginners on this video, Liked it so thought I would have a crack. I was struggling because my painting was too dark and then you said about what grade to make it (hooter), then I realized I was really out of my depth because I knew nothing about some of the terms you were using so I googled them and went from there. it isn't that fantastic but I really learnt heaps from you so thank you, Next time I will be looking for 1 hooter. Great tutorial, thanks. Have done it in acrylics and it looks horrible, (have been given a couple of painting pads suitable for water colour or acryllcs) so tomorrow will buy/find a canvas and try again in oils. It should look a lot better because I find that the oils blend better together and the colours are stronger pigments (same brand acrylics and oils, both a top quality brand) so the water will come out looking better. The highlights should show up better in the forest at the back as well, todays looks good from close up but from a distance the colours all merge into just dark, so it appears to be dark green band then a band of blue/brown with splodges of paler blue/brown and a mix of green/blue/white for the pond. Can't wait to watch it again tomorrow and start from scratch. ps: did your mountain meadow landscape last night in oils and it looks fabulous. My son-in-law has taken it for his bedroom wall, my daughter is complaining she needs more wall space. Thanks, I have really enjoyed both these classes.

Hi I love your tutorials I'm in the process of getting ready to buy my supplies. I've checked out the list of supplies you use, they are a little pricey for me for paints. Do you have any recommendations on what other brands I could use. I do paint rocks but need a break. I have small bottles of acrylic which to name a few are apple barrel, Americana and folk art. Thanks
@TheArtSherpa

Jen I made a file with all the colors i use and all the companies that sell those colors. Further It has the recommended paint brands. Not all are pricey but all are quality if that makes sense. Try looking at Amsterdam Acrylic colors By Royal Talon and also Abstract Acrylic by Sennelier. You can find them online easily and both are super good companies.

I always thought acrylic paints were indistructable, because they are basically plastic. Wasn't aware that they could be affected by extreme heat or cold. Just confirms my conviction that oils are best. ps: always buy Windsor and Newton if possible but Daler Rowney are also very good (acrylic and oil). Their brushes are also very good. Like your videos but time differences mean I watch them later on KZbin (live in Ireland).

Did something go wrong? Anyway.... My art supplies are nearly out of the boxes (just moved), then I want to join in. My paints were bought slightly more than a year ago and used only once. How long do acrylics last? They are just the basic colors from Artists Loft. I was teaching myself to paint without checking to see if there were any virtual teachers... Is my current brand decent? My mum and I did this painting this afternoon. Its a lovely painting and I appreciate your enthusiasm however it was quite hard to see what you were doing in the darker layers. There wasn't enough light shining on your painting to see the different shades. I also hard trouble seeing around your hat, it often blocked the painting.

+Kelly Elsley I hear you we learned ALOT from filming this one. We have a left side robot cam now and are redesign the studio lighting so we can do better at this type of painting

The only thing I had a hard time visualizing was the water at the bottom of the canvas. It was odd to me that it was so brown instead of bluer

+amber morrison Oh Dern :) I should have talked about when water will be clear or churned under water. This fall in Tasmania has a soft bottom so the water is murky but in hawaii over rocks it is clear and can reflect the blue in the sky.

Maybe it is my own eyesight, but damn this is a hard one. I gave up and went to bed for the rest of the afternoon . I am a bit of a cry baby. I tried again tonight and still I cannot see what you are doing. This is the first painting that I cannot give a thumbs up to.

Sorry, had to give a thumbs down. So far all your paintings have been great and this is the very first one I have to quit. I am very disappointed, I couldn't follow you on the colors you were using and you were painting and talking about other things than the painting. Angela does that so much I had to quit watching her tutorials. I am sure it is fun for live viewing, but watching the video after makes it too difficult to follow.
