Astrologers Chris Brennan, Austin Coppock, and Kelly Surtees discuss the meanings of the seven classical planets in western astrology, taking into account both traditional and modern perspectives.
Here we only deal with the significations of the seven classical celestial bodies that can be seen with the naked eye: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.

This is episode 64 of The Astrology Podcast.
Unfortunately there was no video recording of this episode, but I recently had the audio re-edited and I'm uploading it to KZbin, since a lot of people are asking where to find it after it was mentioned in our recent series on the significations of the twelve houses.
For the full episode description see the podcast website:
theastrologypodcast.com/2016/0...
We do not deal with the significations of the modern planets in this episode. See episode 67 on the podcast website for a treatment of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto:

I'm posting the audio of this old episode because a lot of people here on KZbin have been asking about it after it was mentioned in the recent episode on the significations of the houses. Sadly this episode was recorded back in 2016 before we started doing video, so it is just audio, but it was a great episode that really complements the ones we've done now on the signs of the zodiac and the houses.

Thank you for this ppl often mistake the meaning of Aquarius bc of Uranus. Aquarius is ruled by Saturn an air fixed sign a man pouring water symbolizing the loyal eclectic servant that benefits society for humanitarian purposes not a wacky rebellious weirdo like so many claim Aquarius to be like.

In tarot card reading, you do pay attention to what is not included in the spread. For example if you have a spread with no cups, you would know that you are not dealing with a love or emotional situation/question. (contrary to the comment at appx 6:10).

You were bothered by the tarot comment too! Yeah, and as a tarot reader, I have recently realized that the repetitive cards on daily energy checks are the ones representing the planet and house that is influencing us all planetarily at any given time. Which is why I am here on this channel learning all I can from Astrology. Each tarot card is a representation of planets in different zodiac signs. Learning the astrological correspondences and the energy of each planet and sign of the tarot cards, increases your skill as a tarot reader. And I go out on a limb to say the same goes for Astrologers, learning the correspondences of tarot cards and letting jumpers be the ones read, will increase their skills as astrologers.

This is the best breakdown and explanation of Jupiter out there. It's truly unique and enlightening. Brought me a much deeper awareness and understanding of my Jup in Sag and it made perfect sense. When I listened to others how they explained Jup, I felt something important was missing, but Austin Coppock just filled that hole with the brilliant examples and explanations. It's a gem. Love his Jup in Cancer and Gemini Moon, and luve ya all too.

I'm working on a chemistry analogy conceptualization of the planets and in that I have Mars ruling redox reactions. Combustion is probably one of the most recognizable redox reactions (rusting and cellular respiration being others). So I conceptualize mars as ruling the heat from combustion (fire)/cellular respiration (fever) which require oxygen and the Sun ruling heat from fusion (heat in vacuum of space/ no oxygen).

The planetary association of Saturn with death actually has a neat tie-in with his mythological counterpart because Saturn had a sickle or scythe, being a god of agriculture, so he's sometimes linked to the image of the Grim Reaper. His association with time also coincides with that because of course death is an inevitable matter of time for living beings.

Great study on the planets. When comparing the knowledge of Jupiter and Mercury's knowledge a good reference is Plato's "analogy of the divided line" in the Republic (Republic 6) in which he speaks of Dianoia and Nous. To generalize, Dianoia is more like a mathematical intelligence, and Nous is like "gnosis", a intuitive wisdom, or knowledge of things as they really are. There are Wikipedia pages on Dianoia, Nous an Plato's "analogy of the divided line" to explain further.

I did a summer internship with SETI and NASA Ames where I studied aeolian features on mars… one thing I did, was document craters (and lack of them) which can be used to date the surface… the dunes showed a lack of craters meaning that they are “young”… still forming or recently formed… not ancient and stagnant… this feels right… and like it could possibly be used to expand the archetype… I like the idea of using modern technology to further develop the archetypes

1:31:55 "Conception" Which may partly be what's behind the Greek-god archetype of Zeus - always raping everything around Him. The Will to Gnosis. Which is distinct from The Will to Power. You forgot to inquire about what might be "negative about the "Benefics". Esp. since they do go retro sometimes. Too much of a good thing, maybe? Esp. if you're not gonna work with the Transcendentals. ✔️So "Spiritual" that one is of no Earthly use. ✔️Spoiled, privileged. ✔️Egg-head. ✔️Being plagued by flatterers, having to pander to one's alies. ✔️Dissatisfaction with things simply as they are or with one's circumstances. There are nuanced plagues associated with living a well-resourced life where one has access to everything one could possibly want. Neuroses of all kinds. 😩

Regarding good and evil vs benefic malefic, a good philosophical text to consult for anyone interested is Nietzsche’s genealogy of morals. In the first chapter, he sets out to demonstrate that the concept of evil is a Christian invention entirely absent from the worldview of the pre-Christian pagans, who viewed reality more in terms of fortune-hence Nietzsche’s amor fati, love of fate. When doing something, you hope to achieve a particular outcome. Benefic and malefic simply convey the tendency of a planet to either help or hinder those actions. One caveat: we must read action in the broadest sense the term possibly conveys. We thus must include inaction as a subspecies of action, as must we include particular states of being which are action’s derivatives.

1:48:20 I always thought Saturn was the high priest. He’s exclusive to whom he allows entry into things (like the popes and heaven) that are walled off and separate from the many and has to do with endings and as an antithesis per se to kings (sun). One rules the temporal, the other spiritual.

I have a question... In case anyone can help me: I've been wondering, I have a few close conjunctions in my natal chart and I'm not sure which planet has more influence... For example, I have my Moon conjuct to my Jupiter in Virgo and I'm a Sagittarius Rising so... Does that mean my chart ruler (Jupiter) is influenced by my moon or not? Does that mean my Moon is a mix of Virgo and Jupiter nature or that, on contrary, my Jupiter is exacerbating Virgo so it makes me even more earthy and so it makes me less-like my rising sign? This is just one small example, but looking at my families charts, these type of questions are arising... And I'm not sure what's the best interpretation. Should I just follow my intuition or is there a reasonement a should consider? I have mix feelings when I try to be objective about my self, even though I'm quite introspective. Thank you in advance for any input! :D

Jupiter is female. We increase children with our bodies for one thing, with our willingness to expand. Neptune should also be considered feminine in my opinion - we are creative, nebulous, dreamy. What's with this overwhelming male stuff - (like everything else I guess). We are leaving that reality soon I hope. Perhaps even Pluto which is transformative is feminine - Women are the queens of transformation. Of course Uranus is definitely both with the sudden unexpected changes he/she provides so often, according to fickle whimsy. They will all need name changes.

I agree that Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto seem feminine... However, maybe a way to look at this is that all planets have both feminine and masculine energy/manifestations, just like people have a certain duality. :)

i disagree . One does not have to know anything about astrology to feel a Moon or Sun aspect and be able to differentiate . Those however are not planets but there are those who can delve into Cosmic Memory . To say otherwise is to reduce Astrology to a lower plane.
