What I wouldn't give to hear and see the fabulous Klea Blackhurst in a full production of "Holly, Dolly". Someone -- please make that happen.

Klea has played the role - I believe at the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA. - the theatre Gertrude Lawrence built.

Fred Barton: I believe that you are mistaken in stating that Miss Lawrence built the Cape Playhouse. It was already up and running, managed by Richard Aldrich who brought Miss Lawrence there for, I believe, SUSAN and GOD which she did prior to LADY in the DARK. And of course Miss Lawrence and Mr. Aldrich married and after her passing in September ‘52, wrote “Gertrude Lawrence as Mrs. A”. Also, in the 12 years of marriage she appeared often at the Cape Playhouse but they kept their careers separate until he produced PYGMALION, with Raymond Massey as Higgins and so successful was the revival that it was mentioned, well she was, on the back of the original cast of MY FAIR LADY as one of the actresses Julie Andrews would be compared to in the role of Eliza. And yes I have fond memories of Miss Lawrence even she died before I was born. And your tribute and the Ethel Merman DOLLY song was great!
