The whole purpose of the show is to ask what people believe and why, with an expectation that the beliefs will be religious in nature and therefore on shakey ground. You can't therefore just exclude outlandish claims on their face without giving an opportunity for the caller to give an argument or defence of it. That would give the impression of knocking down strawmen. This particular call I would say was correctly curtailed not because of the heaven claim, but because he was unable to maintain a consistent train of thought. Jumping from topic to topic with little to no connection between them destroys any conversation and is an indicator that the caller may have psychological issues the hosts don't know about and so can't accommodate. A caller who starts with "I believe in heaven because I've been there" and then proceeds to have a discussion about how we can independantly verify experiences etc could be a perfectly fine call.

This was Mr. Batman at his most reasonable. If you listen to him on Discord he can barely contain his contempt and anger for anyone who disagrees with him, and simply talks over everyone he encounters and refuses to respond substantively to their points. @@fritzhaselnuss7852 I haven't gotten to the relevant call yet, but the principles of *charity, reciprocity and intellectual integrity* impose upon us a duty to take claims at face value until evidence to the contrary is presented. To assume the caller is full of shit isn't skepticism, it's cynicism. that said, if the caller is full of shit, I'll be the first (and only, lol) to edit this post to say we should set the sunuvabitch on fire (edit #1) - those same principles are being employed as we (presumably) have a mutual understanding that the claim of being Batman is almost certainly pants-on-fire-bullshit. Absent those principles, I'd be forced to conclude that you lump claiming to be batman, claiming to teach science, christianity and the bible in the same class of claims. Most all of us recognize time in minutes, hours, days,, months and years. This being said, we are conditioned to relate longer periods of time as compared to a human lifetime. I study geology off and on and have built a good knowledge of the subject. For me and many others that study geology, the long expansion of time for these processes to take place is one of the hardest to comprehend. This is one reason Creationists believe the Earth is only 10,000 years old or less. Its very hard to teach them anything different than their indoctrination will permit.

Writer - “I see time as a measurement of distance because of the movement of clock hands” That’s because clock hands have different speeds, and speed is a ratio of distance and time, eg miles per hour, or meters per second, so if you know the speed of the clock hands and how much time has passed, you can calculate how much distance the hands have moved. Time doesn’t give you a distance unless you also have a speed. When you do have a consistent speed, the more time passes, the more distance occurs, in direct proportion. Saying “time is a measurement of distance” however, is an oversimplification that’s more confusing than useful.

I always love it when he brings it up as a counterpoint to bible proves the Bible crap, he didn't get it all right though. The Ainur had no hand in creating the children of Illuvatar, that was 100% him. Also the big one is that Oromë didn't create the Dwarves, that was Aulë. Oromë was actually the first of the Valar to discover the Elves. A valiant effort on his part though, it's heavy stuff.

Best of the best in AE, loved it all along. Batman is an insult to the notion what we call science/s. But this science teacher could not use the *same* yard stick [that is the basis of all sciences, as it is not god or belief system] to prove the Biblical, Christian Covenant. Furthermore Shannon cleared my thoughts on the concept of soul using ATp and the elements that drive for a functioning brain, mind, consciousness, without Na, K etc it is not possible. Wonderful, loved it, loved it. Many thanks to Canada and all Canadians including Jim [my little sister lives there in Toronto] Thanks Johnny Angel for your thought provoking humour, and sarcasm as they are very educational. Firstly, while Joshua described his beliefs (and sure, not yet getting to the very important point of "why,") they interjected and made clarifying questions/comments about all his minor details of the aspects of his beliefs. For one thing, it helps to be listened to in a conversation as he was making a lot of "nicety" arguments that people like to listen to more, given how extremely liberal/free his beliefs were...and they felt comfortable listening to Joshua not make a total tool out of himself since he didn't have a boring a&& alt-neocon repetitive presup script that they've heard a million times before (since Christian liberals are more fearful/apathetic to debate atheists' logic as apposed to the Dark Agers and others of such fruit from Jesus/Joshua and money-collector Paul/Saul).
