Yeah, but that´s just a part of the history, because in the first place Christianism started spreading with secret meetings and stuff like that, and at that time it was all the way around (if you are a christian you die) that´s when the martirs appeared (especially in Rome, at the colosseum and others places, where it was officially recognised that there had been persecutions against christians there). But there had been Christians martirs several times in the history since then, and even now, christianism is the most (or one of the most) attacked religion in the world . In some parts of Africa and Middle East christians are disriminated and sometimes, although not so often, killed. But most of those news don´t get here.

When I was young, I believed in Santa Clause. I also believed in God. Then I grew up and saw the evidence that pointed to Santa Clause not being real. Then I saw all the evidence that pointed to God not being real, it is as simply as that with most young atheists. We're not immoral or wanting to sin, we just value logic enough to realize that God isn't real. It's the same reason people don't truly believe unicorns exist even if there was an outdated book written on them. Atheists don't have a problem with Christians, it's just upsetting when Christians question us and then insult and offend us, stereotyping us for not believing in something they believe in. I don't insult you for believing in God, so please don't insult us for valuing logic.

I was around nine and I found out in the exact same way. And I was NINE! Nine year olds think EMOTIONALLY not LOGICALLY! I figured it out all by my self despite what I wanted to believe at the time. I'm so proud of my nine-year-old self! 😂
@JuniorShepherd8 жыл бұрын
Well said, and i respect your decision for why you are an Atheist. However i wouldn't trust man's logic either. If you can't trust God, trusting man's logic just as bad or even worse. Better that you trust in nothing at all. Human beings will ALWAYS find some "logical" answer to defend their wrong doings and their beliefs whether true or not. The justice system these days is so broken. I can wake up today and believe that i should have a right to marry my cell phone and guess what. There are actually courts that would hear me out. Did you not hear of the man that almost won his case in court because he wanted to marry his Apple MacBook Pro? If you look around and read or watch the news, how much of it is actually good logical stuff? Most of it is evil and foolishness. Headlines just as an example, "Georgia man kills another over a cheeseburger." Evolution you say? Isn't that supposed to make us better? We have all of these advances in knowledge and science, supposed cures for cancer and AIDS, the ability to control our lights in our home using our voices. But with all of these great and magnificent things we still can't fix the broken society that we live in. I rest my case.
@jwalts108 жыл бұрын
+Junior Shepherd Logic has allowed mankind to progress so much further in a positive way, religion has done nothing helpful for humans. And I don't mean the religious charities that help out people, I mean believing in a deity has done nothing positive for society.
@JuniorShepherd8 жыл бұрын
That is true to some extent however I think one could say religion and believing in a deity has helped us as well to some extent. For some religion is a way of life or a path to follow. In a way when applied correctly it can help establish order and promote good values in society.unfortunately though religion has been terribly misused throughout history even in supposed biblical times. Jesus found many of the Jews to be hypocrites who treated others badly and glorified themselves. I think though that the real problem beings when people start focusing more on what the religion demands rather than who the religion is about and finding ways to help others fund true peace in their lives. Religious fanatics are no fun to be around either.

Actually, within Judaism ✡️, God doesn’t have a name. Christians use YHWH or J@hovah OT some such. Jesus used Father consistently. God Almighty comes up without them using the actual Hebrew term which seems to puzzle them and hey I’m not going use it because I don’t want to make them dizzy. Allah is not a name, it’s a descriptive. . Point is, God doesn’t have a name in Abrahamic faiths but I seriously don’t think Christians know this. Why? Because they never say God has no name and why. Greek Stoics used Apeiron in the place of a name. It means the Boundless. Infinite or Eternal Beings we don’t fully understand and who exist on levels we can’t perceive is the given response to the name question. PS El was the name Semites used at one time. Eventually, they decided it was a descriptive. But we cannot be totally sure because they didn’t write much more than El and made statues. If you look at Ugarit, Ba’al replaced El with no real explanation. One story as it that Ba’al killed El but it wasn’t repeated and they went back or never left making statues. Once they could write, they went with Ba’al hero epics. So we don’t know El’s exact status but they continued with the occasional statue. I have seen comment out of Ugarit that says El went out into the cosmos but haven’t seen what text the archaeologists are referring to yet.

After she started walking away, the bottom of her cart broke and I ran over right away and helped her. After the bags were picked up she said, "Oh God bless you, young man." Can you guess what I said? "Sorry ma'am, I'm an atheist." The look on her face was PRICELESS.

I'm sorry Ma'am. It's people who do the work called blessings while you'll give god the credit. God doesn't bless me. People do. I'd rather have two good hands which do hood things than 1,000 clasped inactively in prayer. Give a truck to a disaster to fill with good to a group of atheists to fill and another to a group of Christians to pray over. Which one shows up at the disaster sight filled with useful items? I'd rather have an education guiding the surgeon's hands than a 2,000 yo ghost of a wandering preacher.

I undoubtedly don't want my kids growing up thinking that they're going to burn in a lake of fire underneath the earth for all eternity if they do something that a book tells them is "wrong" and I don't want them growing up thinking that they need to satisfy this man in the sky. also, how do you come out and say that you're an atheist without turning people off. I was talking to a schoolmate today and I asked her if she could ever date or be friends with someone who doesn't believe in God and she said "No, you need to at least believe in a higher being because look around us.." and i looked around and thought to myself "umm... science??????????".
@MakaykayLAMB8 жыл бұрын
I think it's especially hard (correct me if I'm wrong because this may be prevalent with other races too) being black because religion is so important in this community. We are the ones shunning black men that are "too feminine" and beating our kids if we find out they're gay... or telling the entire congregation (especially if you go to a mega church- I live in Chicago there are at least 2 churches on every block.) that you're gay and shunning you from the church, just stupid shit like that. I just fear that I will lose out on a lot of friendships and relationships due to my new-found atheism. I don't wanna broadcast my atheism (like Christians consistently do) but I think it can be important to share with the people that you have close relationships with.

Makaela Mahoney The true path of freedom is only obtained through being Atheist. If someone rejects you for your choice they were never going to be real friends.
@gabrielproctor31198 жыл бұрын
Makaela Mahoney you realize that when a devoutly religious person refers to God, they refer to science, to mathematics, to the arts right? God, truly, is not just some dude who lives in the sky judging people. God is not meant to be a singular entity separate from anything, but rather the singularity of which we are all a part. This is why when a society begins the first thing they look for is common ideology amongst themselves that they can resonate with, and also why so many societies at their core are so similar even given a great deal of distance from one another and having no physical ability to communicate with one another. The ancients weren't some idiots who were just trying to explain why fire happens, they were attempting to discover the nature of reality through a lens of religion. Modern science is also a lens through which to look, but is handicapped by our human incapability of being able to comprehend the infinitum of everything while religion saw that some things will be a mystery because some things are also literally indefinable e.g. x/0 and many societies decided to companion their religion and their science so that they would be able to explain the world both physically and metaphysically, developing both at a stable pace where they would grow together.
@MakaykayLAMB8 жыл бұрын
I like your response. That's great and everything but while some things are a mystery, the same way that humans have evolved, so has science. Science has solved some of these "mysteries". Also while you are saying that religion is essentially the thing that is supposed to bring people together, while I recognize that that may have been the original intent, a vast majority of people who believe in a god hate people who believe in something different e.g. Christians and Muslims. I understand why people cling to religion especially from a sociological standpoint. Thank you for further explaining to me why people practice their religion.
@MakaykayLAMB8 жыл бұрын
I understand that a lot of people in THE WORLD are nice and accepting and those people I appreciate to the fullest. I get so happy when I find people that are like that but sadly, I live in America which is a primarily Christian country and a lot of Christians push their beliefs on other people... e.g Conservatives and gay marriage and/or abortion. My experience with Christians has nothing to do with the media, it's all from my own personal experience. I apologize for making generalizations about religious people because that isn't right to do. You're the first religious person that I have been able to have a conducive conversation with and that is willing to allow me to learn without judgement.

"Where will I go when I die?" - A great reply by Richard Dawkins is "Where do you go when you sleep?"
@lanirita8815 жыл бұрын
Jesus liken death to sleep. Did Dawkin know this before he said, "where do you go when you sleep". In an unconscious state, no where. Like sleep, you go no where. People can move you around bury you and you still are in a unconscious state, a permanent one. Some people go to sleep and never awaken to greet the next day. Death is sleep. Jesus raised Lazarus from this kind of sleep.
@applicableapple39914 жыл бұрын
@@lanirita881 death is NOT sleep. During sleep you are unconscious, but your subconscious is still there. Your mind takes this time to absorb information you've gained throughout the day, you also enter different types of sleep (REM sleep). Death is when your heart stops beating, people have been 'resurrected' even after a few minutes. Of course medical equipment. When you die (after I think a few hours), your brain will die as well. Then you as a person are gone, with only your physical state in existence.

You are not far off actually. He was a charismatic leader who never thought he was the son of God until he the last 3 years of his life, when he began his work as an itinerant preacher. I have always thought it was funny how God in human form did not know he was God in human form when he was 17 or 20 or 23. How would he NOT know if he was all powerful and omniscient? The biggest thing from which Jesus benefited was living in a world where oral tradition was the primary way that information was conveyed. There was no cell phone video of him walking on water, healing a blind person, etc, so the people who followed him simply spread stories about him. Then, no one wrote and organized the Bible until many years after Jesus was dead, so no one could fact check it, go talk to him about it, or go ask him to repeat supernatural acts that were described in the Bible. Also, some of the depiction of Jesus in the Bible may have been influenced between his death and the writing and organization of the Bible. For example, there was a "god/man'/religious leader" around India hundreds of years before Jesus was born, who had a similar name to "Jesus" and who was said to have performed several of the same miracles that Jesus was claimed to have performed. Someone who helped put together part of the Bible 100 years after Jesus died may have heard about this figure in India, and that could have influenced what was written about Jesus. A minister once told me that Jesus may have actually learned some of what he preached from people who had brought Buddhist ideas back to Israel from the Orient. If one begins to take just the few possible influences that I am mentioning here, it is reasonable to imagine that Jesus may have been a real man with some good ideas and some borrowed ideas, whose acts were exaggerated during the retelling and processing of his life orally over many years before the Bible was actually recorded on paper and pulled together into one book in a finished form.

I put absolutely no thought into my atheism. Religious people have a difficult time with me because of this. You can't say its a phase, because I have never, ever been religious. I didnt put thought into it because, agian, I didn't even think religions were real things until I was like 10 years old - I assumed christianity and the like were talked about as something that happened, like ancient egyptian religion, but no longer was. The idea of religion, of spirituality even, is completely alien to me. I can give you the dictionary definition of it, but nothing more. It makes no sense to me. Religious folks never want to talk to me after finding this out :(

It wasn't until later I found out adults believed in God and was a separate thing. Obviously my parents were non religious. It was never discusses though, I was allowed to make up my own mind and the answer that always made the most sense to me was science. I think the fact that region relies on faith and not asking too any questions should really be a red flag to it's credibility.

In school there is this class call earth science. in this class they teach you where mountains come from. Christians shouldn't have to google it if they paid attention in class. I think we pick on Christians because they are the most outspoken religion. They are always trying to turn people into their religion, knocking on doors giving the "word of god" or whatever in the streets. Jewish and Muslim and whatever other religion out there they don't do that. And that is why I think atheists pick on Christians the most. I might be wrong.

I'm an atheist as well and i once tried to imagine what it would be to believe in heaven, i have to say that it wasn't hard at all, when i was young i was kinda nihilstic so it was easy for me to place myself in the "Everything i do it's meaningless" state of depression that many people try to use as validation for the existance of god, i believe we shared more or less the same experience, the idea was very comforting and soothing but once you snap back to reality you cannot keep believing it to be true, even if it's comforting. It's no wonder why so many people that undergo high stress or suffering in their lifes turn to religion, it's just an escape from reality. So i don't blame them, if i was somehow thinking that my life is meaningless or if i was suffering a lot and taken i didn't had all the scientific background, historical knowledge and knowledge of moral issues about religion i would too try to make up something in order to comfort myself. I don't tough.. knowing the truth just feels better, it allows me to prepare myself and slaps reality on me. I don't expect miracles to happen in my life, i make effort to obtain oportunities and i thank no one but myself for my victories and blame no one for my failures.

@moonanddarkness10 жыл бұрын
***** I guess it's because we always try to find reasons for everything that happens, and yeah i agree it was the result of grief, i don't think you should trust any decision made by a person during such a stressful or sad event, how good can his judgement be? But religious folks always say that you will find god exactly at those times.... sounds logical to me that you will make the wrong assumptions and decissions during those times and some of those might be religion related. I wonder what the first humans who asked themselves this questions tought was going to happen to them when they died. They probably just answered honestly, "i don't know". Most likely someone tought that he would just love the idea of his dead child or mother to be still alive, and made up this idea of heaven or resurrection in their heads. Until someone screwed up and started to invent these stories for their children, stories led to myths, myths to "history" and "history" to religion.

An all knowing creator wasn't aware Earth revolves around the sun apparently. Job 26:11 'its pillars tremble.' Pillars are Earths vertical support beams. @MoreGrievances11 жыл бұрын
Caesar Santizo This is one of the few verses that is not obviously wrong - it does indeed say that God “hangeth the earth upon nothing”. Still, this must be weighed against the many verses, including one from this same chapter of this same biblical book, which say that the Earth and the heavens are supported by pillars that shake when God gets angry (Job 9:6, Job 26:11, Psalms 75:3, 1 Samuel 2:8). If we are to claim that the Bible displays profound scientific accuracy, we cannot just dismiss verses that say things that are obviously scientifically inaccurate.

I'm just going to leave this here: In 1976, two scientists in Holmdel, New Jersey set out to research possible ways for new telecommunications techniques. They used an antenna known as the 'Big Horn Antenna' to do so. As they were performing some maintenance checks on the horn before conducting tests, the two researchers heard a low buzzing noise from within the horn. Believing that there was an insect flying around the horn, making random noise, the two checked the interior and made sure that it was completely empty. Upon testing the horn again, the buzzing continued. When they checked the wavelength, the two researchers found something unexpected: A 7-centimeter wavelength, something no man-made object could create. The two then aimed the antenna in other areas of the sky, and found that this wavelength was constant; no matter where they pointed the antenna, the buzzing continued. Meanwhile, two researchers in Cambridge made the theory that if the Big Bang actually happened, it would have produced a blast so large that an extremely low-pitched and universal wavelength would have to exist today. When the two Cambridge researchers heard about the two telecommunications researchers' findings, they knew that they had just proven the Big Bang Theory. The two telecommunications researchers received Nobel Prizes for their achievement, yet nobody ever acknowledges this event. Recently, a research station in the South Pole picked up some low-pitched and universal wavelengths. Basically, these new researchers are merely re-iterating what the Holmdel researchers discovered, but the research still exists! The Big Bang happened! It was proven over 30 years ago, even though most people don't know that it was!

"You just want to sin!" Actually, if I specifically wanted to sin, I'd become a Catholic. Why? Because according to Catholicism's own teachings, I can commit any sin, go to confession, confess those sins, do the penance, and voila, my soul is as clean as fresh snow. Therefore, sin without consequence. Also, being religious does not mean you are free of sin. If it did, then there'd be no such thing as confession, and even prayer would be pointless. By the same token, lack of religion does not necessarily make a person bad.

I'm familiar with the doctrine. The problem is, I don't really believe that everyone who goes to confession is truly sorry for their sins. If they were truly sorry, they'd make an effort to atone for their actions outside the church before asking God's forgiveness. I'd think more highly of the person who regretted stealing hundreds or thousands of dollars and returned the stolen money than I would if he simply waltzed into a confessional and did a handful of Hail Mary prayers. Morality is not a product of religion. Religion is not a product of morality. Each *CAN* exist independently of the other. And that concept is what seems to give the religious types grief.
