I think it's wild seeing Tati's mic control towards the end, to see how much she moves the mic to remain backup vocal, and just that it's all a conscious decision. I swear, I'm 30+ and this is the first time I've ever thought "my life is worse for not having been there in person". Oh, Charis is allover my distance thing before even posting lol.

Tati controlled the distance to the mic so that it wouldn´t overpower the cleans, that is great care for the performance
@JariJuslin2 ай бұрын
Yeah, in a performance like this where they are passing ball back and forth and alternating between cleans and screams and also alternating who's on the front and who's backing, her excellent mic technique must have made it *so* much easier for the mixer folks. But it does take a lot of skill to know where exactly is the sweet spot, especially since there's crowd noises messing with how loud things sound. But a pro is a pro.
@johnbriggs39162 ай бұрын
@JariJuslin According to those there on the day, the FOH mixer completely messed it up. This mix was done by Josh Gilbert, the bass player.
@goncalocarvalho49172 ай бұрын
@johnbriggs3916 that is correct I read that the live mixer had Tati micro too low, then the bass player from spirit box made the final mix for the video, he did a wonderful job
@gtrsean24292 ай бұрын
Tatiana's voice clean or extreme is much deeper and wider. That doesn't automatically mean better comparatively. Her voice simply fills up more space. That's what this collab shows. Courtney is wonderful in her own right. I'm happy this collab happened and was then properly mixed for us to truly hear and enjoy. 🤘

Spiritbox ft Poppy on the song Soft Spine from this same festival goes so hard. Also, you have not reacted to any Bilmuri, from what I can see. They recently posted a live version of their song “The End,” and Gabi Rose (saxophone player and secondary vocalist) is absolutely killer. They both have different primary harsh vocal styles. Tatiana uses primarily a non-tonal style, which doesn’t have movement (she mixes in other styles so there is movement), and Courtney primarily uses a tonal style that her singing tones bleeds through her harsh vocals (which is also why hers is easier to understand what she’s saying).

Another great recent collab is Band-Maid with The Warning - Show Them. I haven't seen any reactions of either band on your channel so I think it would be a good opportunity for you to get introduced to these two artists. Band-Maid is from Japan and The Warning are from Mexico. Both are all female bands with amazing skills.

If Tati would have held the mic right up to her mouth as she normally does when doing harsh vocals she would have completely drowned out Courtney’s vocals and she obviously knows that.
@johnbriggs39162 ай бұрын
On the album track, Courtney's harsh vocals are layered under (way under) her clean vocals at that point. Tati was trying to emulate that.
@JariJuslin2 ай бұрын
But it is often said, that the harsh vocals are quiet in reality and you need amplification to make them sound loud. Here it seems that's not really the case - the growls could match her singing voice in volume, thus the need to move the mic to keep them in the background.

As a man in the historically male dominated metal genre. I had been getting tired of my favorite genre for a good while and I didnt know why. Then the last 8 or so years I found out. We needed the ladies in here kicking ass with us. Shame on all the oldhead men for making women feel uncomfortable in this space. Shame. My listening time has been DOMINATED by female singers/groups for a few years now. Its filling the void that should never have been there. Thank you sisters of metal for saving the genre for me. ❤🤘

As you've reacted to this, perhaps you should react to their live performance of the new single "Soft Spine", also at Louder Than Life (I think it was the next song in the set, but don't quote me on that), this time featuring Poppy! Poppy has become a Metal Princess, and has aspirations for promotion -- see her latest single, "They're all around us."
@JariJuslin2 ай бұрын
Their dirty vocals are indeed very different, and possibly utilizing a bit different mechanisms. There's very little actual theory about metal screams, so everyone has had to figure it out themselves and might have ended up doing it a bit differently. And of course anatomies are different. I think it was masterful how they utilized these differences - they deliberately made things happen in order of cleans - Cortney's scream - Tati's growl, because that created a nice progression. Very few women can do those low white-noisey screams that Tati does.

You have mentioned in other videos about crowd surfing. And why you won’t do it. I travel to Denmark every summer for the COPENHELL festival. Bands are always commenting on how they like the fact women are able to crowd surf there without creepness going on. I’ve seen other American KZbinrs there with press creds so. Just a thought.
