The 'Theatre of terrestrial astronomy' was printed in Hamburg in 1676. It contained a series of 16 woodcut emblems. The text was in Latin but is now available widely in an English translation.
The book is usually assigned to the late 16th-century magician and alchemist Edward Kelly (1555-1595), though this remains uncertain.
In 2004 Adam McLean made coloured versions of these emblems, which are used here together with his descriptive commentary.

Adam McLean has created a number of study courses on alchemical symbolism in the form of books and downloadable files.
