Can we talk about how bullshit the Kanto gyms were in the anime? Sabrina is using Pokemon that at that point in time were almost gods who couldn't be touched by any other Pokemon and if you lost to her you were turned into a doll. Ash had to fix her crippling psychological problems to even have a chance of winning Erika won't even let you into the gym unless you like perfume and flowers and Ash has to cross dress to even get inside Then we have Giovanni who was using a bio engineered psychic type that wasn't even listed in the Pokedex. I'm assuming the Pokemon League is an organization with some kind of management. How was Sabrina's gym was allowed to stay open.

There is an agency that checks if the gym leaders follow the rules from time to time. Sabrina probably just got lucky for a while, but her gym should be wrapped up by now :P Erika, well, idk. Giovanni didn't use Mewtwo from the beginning so he as well just got lucky for a while.

Depends on the sources you look at, the Kanto Pokemon League in the manga had over half the gym leaders as part of Team Rocket and the Elite Four almost destroyed Kanto in order to capture a legendary pokemon. While the manga and anime follow two different canons they're still some overlapping facts, it's possible that Team Rocket still has some influence in the pokemon league only far more subtle than its manga counterpart

virus Juvera I have no hope in the writers to begin with. The anime doesn't even need to follow the games 100% to be a great anime. The show has had great battles and even some great episodes/episode arcs, and yet, the writers are so adamant about sticking with this. So much wasted potential, and, we know they can do it. My biggest misconception as a kid was about Fantina. As a child, Diamond was my first ever game, and when finally getting to battle the gym leader I honest to good thought that Fantina was male. It was only recently, like a few weeks ago, that I learnt that she is in fact, female. Now, why did I think Fantina was male? Idk, she has a strong jawline, and it wasn't uncommon for some male gym leaders to dress pretty feminine. So eight year old me saw this woman who was wearing a freaking ballgown, looked at her jaw, and just went "Ah, a male it is!"

The anime has confirmed that there is more than eight gyms in a region the regions themselves are different and have different towns. But if you go back to season one Gray has badges from gyms we never heard of.

Gary having ten Badges from Kanto is an example of world-building in the Pokemon anime. Unova officially confirms that a region can have more Gyms than the bare minimum needed to qualify for the League in that region. We just see the Gyms that we as players would get as a simple writing convention. If anything, Dark City getting into a gang war over the right to petition the League for official Gym status should have quelled the idea there were only eight Gyms long before Gary showed up with ten Badges. To Ze Memerr, some of the Gyms changed between Black/White and Black2/White2, and Ash challenging Roxie instead of Drayden for his eighth Badge was their way of doing what they usually do: acknowledgement of the second set of games in the generation, whether they be sequels or remakes of an earlier generation's games.

Easy misconception to make. In gen 1, you only got 1 Lapras in Silph Co. if you talked to that one guy. In gen 2, you only could catch it on a friday in a part of union cave you need iirc strength and surf to access, by which point you likely just forgot that part existed since you never have a reason to go back to union cave and nothing in-game aside from one guy's post-battle dialogue even hints at Lapras' existence. And in later gens, you often only get Lapras either post-game or super close to post-game at super low rates while surfing, so low that in none of those games, I ever met a Lapras except when I was spcifically hunting one for the dex.

There's also the fact that sometimes the gen 1 games displayed the wrong matchup text on dual-type Pokemon. Grass moves are stated to be "not very effective" against Gyarados, Fighting moves are "super effective" on the normal/flyings, for instance. It also happens for ground and poison moves used on grass/poisons, but I don't remember which message is displayed. It still does the correct amount of damage though.

Lol, I remember every single one of these happening to me as a kid. The Psychic on grass one I actually figured out relatively quickly though do to how common single poison typing was. I only recently found out upon replaying Silver that ice isn't effective against rock while being in my mid 20s. And due to Red/Blue's overwhelming amount of bugs, the text glitches probably threw me off the entire time I played them, and didn't even know about STAB until Gen 3.
