I've been to Bermuda 6 times and absolutely love the place! The most valuable tip I can offer is, avoid the cruise ship crowds if at all possible. Once you get stuck in a horde of tourists, you might as well have gone to Disney World. Bermuda is not like most other island destinations...it is not like the majority of Caribbean islands because it's not in the Caribbean. It's in the Atlantic. There are no casinos. It is not known for its nightclubs. It is known for its tranquility, natural beauty and a touch of Britishness. (I hope that's a word.) Again, as to the cruise ships, IMHO you should fly to Bermuda, not cruise there. Why spend a good portion of your vacation time going to, and coming back from, your vacation? The "tips" in this video were ok but seem to be directed to people cruising to Bermuda. Per my thoughts above, not a good idea. Second, it would have been better if alternate beaches were identified (if one should avoid Horseshoe Bay, as suggested). Third, no recommendations for food or restaurants? Fourth, the buses and ferries are good, but why not rent a scooter for a day or two? Great way to explore and avoid the "hordes" (see above). One recommendation: Drive/walk/taxi in the evening (after dark) to Gibbs Hill Lighthouse in Southhampton Parish. Sit at the foot of the lighthouse and watch the stars as the beams of light from the lighthouse shine through them. Miraculous! Because Bermuda is 650 miles away from the US, the light "pollution" is extremely dim allowing you to see massive amounts of stars. Just beautiful. Beautifully scenic place. Enjoy!

My apologies. Hadn't been to Bermuda in a few years so wasn't aware that the law had been changed to allow casinos. My mistake. I hope this change doesn't alter the essential character of the place.

@Larry Smole: Ideally, I would love to be able to take a ship from the mainland of the U.S. to Bermuda, but not stay on the ship with the cruise hordes. I just hate small airplanes. Do you know if there are any good ships that just go back and forth. And if you do, are the ships that do that able to handle the seas well? I have read so much about seasickness on at least the New York to Bermuda round trip cruises.

As a local I can say that this is very accurate, perhaps it might be worth adding that you can’t actually rent a proper car, only a twizzy and mopeds 👍

I spent 3 years in Bermuda back in the early 90s - I loved it! Yes - it's expensive. As was said, Bermuda is for the 'newly wed, the nearly dead and the filthy rich'. :) Be sure to to exchange your Bermudian dollars before leaving the island. Since it is not a sovereign nation, there is no exchange offered outside of Bermuda. The Buses are AWESSOME and used to be Pink. There's always a Breeze. You can see the water from just about everywhere. Bermuda is in the middle of the Atlantic, just about every bit of coast has beach. Try Barrit's Ginger Beer - it's awesome. Have a Dark 'n Stormy - Barrit's Ginger Beer and Gosling's rum. Make sure to go to the Swizzle Inn. St. George's on the west end of the island is lovely. Don't leave any food/drink uncovered anywhere - the ants WILL find it.

This video was super informative. I will be going there the end of sept 2021 on a cruise. This will be my first time. The video had lots of great ideas to properly plan out the time we have there. Thanks for the great information.

One good way to save money is to buy food at the grocery store and have a picnic, either on the beach or in your hotel room. Sure the grocery store prices are still pretty expensive compared to elsewhere (unless you live in Manhattan, San Francisco or Honolulu) but it's still a bargain compared to restaurants. The Shell station in Hamilton has quite an array of decent fast food options too and can be a good late-night option or if you're in a hurry and don't want to go for the time and expense of a sit-down meal.
