The Exchange 106 is a nice looking building, and with the planned buildings with a similar style surrounding it will give the district a really nice distinctive look. Similarly, KL Metropolis has some decent designs. I particularly appreciate sizeable green areas being designed in, and not just some overly optimistic trees on balconies.

Most cities have a central park, but Kuala Lumpur has a rainforest. The KL Forest Eco Park is one of the oldest forest reserves in Malaysia and it is located in the dead center of the city…. pretty unreal, right?! This park has several nature trails and an awesome canopy walk over the tree tops.

I'm from Germany and visited Kuala Lumpur in August 2022. It is such a beautiful, modern and impressive city! I love how old and traditional buildings are directly next to skyscrapers, how multicultural it is with many cultures and religions living next to each other, and I like how a lot of nature and trees are incorporated directly into the city architecture, you have jungles right next to skyscrapers. Another beautiful and impressive part of Kuala Lumpur is I-City with its colorful light park at night. Malaysia is such a beautiful country 🇩🇪❤🇲🇾

As someone who has been living in Kuala Lumpur for 30 years (my entire life), I am really excited to see B1M make another video about KL. However, I want to stress that the traffic in Kuala Lumpur is getting worse from year to year. This is one of main reasons why I would never buy a car in KL. Even travelling in the suburbs is scary. There are too many high density, 40 story condominiums. For example, within 1 kilometer of my home in Wangsa Maju, there are 10 condominium projects currently being developed. On average, each of these projects consists of 2,000 units. So, in 5 years, population density here will increase by three or four folds. The only LRT line in Wangsa Maju here already at maximum capacity several years ago. I was a bit relieved a few months ago when the government approved the MRT circle line project that will connect all rail lines in KL to reduce the traffic issue. I really hope that this will not be cancelled again if there is government change in the future.

I really love these videos, but one thing that I find super annoying is the throwing around of big numbers with zero context. For example here at 4:16. Very cool that the complex reduces it's water usage by 200 Olympic-size swimming pools. But that tells you nothing about how good it actually is, when you don't know how much they consume in total. For all I know a typical development consumes 2 million swimming pools a year and this facility's capacity is totally negligible.

Ok, don't get me wrong, I know building skyscrapers is a gargantuan feat of human engineering, but as a Malaysian it feels like there are wayyy too many skyscrapers in KL. Infrastructure has been pretty neglected, roads are perpetually congested and public transport is on the way I guess, but adding more high density buildings is not gonna help in the meantime, it just feels like the government is greenlighting these projects for the fleeting goal of 'national pride' and having the tallest building in Southeast Asia to compensate for our already full plate of growing issues. Just seeing these massive displays of wealth in contrast with the absolute state of the roads here is honestly disappointing. There doesn't seem to be a sense of priority in this nation and the lower income groups are certainly not benefiting from it. Also, it's almost impossible to survive without a vehicle here, the same principles of making areas accessible by car only that America has have been brought here in various areas, public transport has only just taken off recently but for certain areas there's no bus coverage and it's still dangerous for people to walk to and from the station in the early hours and at night. As an example I need to take the LRT to my institution of learning, but the station is about 5km away from my house and there's no public transport near my area so in the end I need to be driven to and from the station due to there not being a walkable path and a lot of busy roads. Like sure the trains are there, but how do we get to them? Fuel prices aren't helping either, when all these oil companies want to squeeze as much profit from us as they can lately it's not really helping the average people who need to commute to work and school. The mental wellbeing of the majority of the population being stuck in traffic for hours everyday is definitely not good. Man, I know you should be grateful for the things you have but sometimes it just can't be forced. We have so many problems to work on and we're just being gaslighted for not being appreciative enough for how 'well' our country is doing.
@dariusz501

Everything you been complain like a more public transport, amenities and so on are requires a huge amount of money. What the government do is how to invest a sum of money and get a multiple amount in return. They are now trying to attract more investor into the city. Once they build.. They're building the best they can. Not just for nation pride. Mostly It's to attract the foreign investors to invest into our country. So be patient. Rome wasn't build in one day. Cheers😉

@@dariusz501 it's been 65 years since we've gained independence, Rome wasn't built in a day, but it took 1000 or so years and it didn't even get to be completed, so if by being patient you mean waiting until my body has turned to dust maybe you're asking for too much. Singapore, although much smaller than Malaysia, has public transport already sorted out, if it wasn't for all the political infighting, racial politics and power struggles paired with corruption we would be about that level already... And foreign investment? I'm pretty sure 1MDB was supposed to do that, correct me if I'm wrong but what makes you think building a skyscraper will benefit the economy more than a direct investment into the veins that keep the blood of the country running, y'know, the roads everyone take to get to work and keep the economy going??? Also not to mention the renovations they've been doing in their own offices and unnecessary spending on Vellfires instead of allocating that money to something more beneficial to the populace... the fact that you still think the we're in safe hands with our current government is kinda sad man, like have the past few years not taught you anything? @@dariusz501 roads cost more in the short and long term. if you want your city to thrive, you have 2 options: make it walkable, or make a robust transit network. this is why new york, tokyo and london are internationally recognised cities, while random (often) american ones are not. car centric planning and the added useless space necessitated by cars slows the growth of cities and the prosperity of their citizenry.

I wanna share some trivia: 1) Tun Razak Exchange - The namesake, Tun Abdul Razak, is the father of Ex-PM now inmate Najib. Kinda amusing thinking about it. Tun Razak was dubbed Malaysia's Father of Development, and his son is dubbed Malaysia's Father of Corruption. - There's another mega structures close by - the Smart Tunnel. It runs under Jalan Tun Razak, though the stormwater and road tunnel parts diverge right around this area, the former turned right around that golf course, and the latter emerged onto the road, directly adjacent to TRX. - It's funny how TRX frames itself as a mixed business and park development as right opposite it is a giant waste of land use that is a golf course. - After the IMDB controversy, many of its projects came under the Ministry of Finance, Incorporated, as mentioned at the start. I dunno of any other government whose MoF is _also_ a corporation holding assets. - TRX's site used to be public housing estate, mainly housing teachers (they're classified as civil servants). 2) KL Metropolis - Was one of the venues of the 2017 SEA games. I went and saw fencing there. Connectivity was okay, though the lack of foresight to build a train station on the KTM commuter rail corridor just north of the site still befuddles me. One other mega development site not touched in the video is Bandar Malaysia (Malaysia City), which was supposed to be built at the site of the city's former airport (which then became the RAF base). MRT Line 2 is supposed to have 2 stations there, but other than that progress of anything else is slow, since the mothballing of the KL-SG HSR. I'm still a bit salty about that.
