This was really insightful on the games poison mechanics, makes sense why the pessklaw was so bad during my poison run, i kept poisoning at 20 second intervals and didnt stack it, ill probably retry it now that ive seen this vid, thanks lemon

@@MineSlimeTVI have glitched myself to later areas of the Games alredy many times and i dont see why killing a boss would prevent you fom entering old boss arenas

@@MineSlimeTV There's a BellOfReturn glitch that actually lands you in the final area of the game. So one could (theoretically) start the game backwards. The bigger problem is dealing with all the enemies at that stage in the game though...

Wraith fangs plus poison mist is a great challenge run in Ng+. The mist can poison any boss in the game then build up the potency with wraith fangs, it's awesome.

Depends on the weapon. If you've got a slow weapon, use the poison charm. If you've got something faster, use the attack speed charm.

Edit: major part you skipped over- how do you get past the festering banquet without killing the sodden knight? I see no way past this as he has the key to open the door and you would have no poison at that point. Seems a bit sus, as the kids say…. 🤔🤨 DOT dmg was always really weird in this game. especially if you die from poison or burning dmg, your salt will sometimes be claimed by A Simple Sack as in it’s glitched and somehow your salt gets claimed by an object instead of an enemy, so you can never get it back. I don’t know if they ever fixed this either, but the weirdness that happened with the bosses doesn’t surprise me

This right here is one of the reasons I love Salt and Sanctuary: even some of the most off-the-wall builds are perfectly viable. (I've done a poison build before myself, though not as restricted as what's shown here, as well as various other builds. Beaten the game, all bosses, with each.) Really hoping they keep this mindset with Salt and Sacrifice.

I think you can only get it a bit late in the game, so I guess it wasn't a complete goof, but it still would have helped with a few of the end game bosses for sure. And I would have looked badass while doing it.

@@TheBacklogs well I dont know if you can get it naturally but you need a diamond cluster for the transmutation for this pistol and you need both redshift and hardlight brand to get the earliest diamond cluster as I know it

Check out the incantation only, its pretty dang close once he gets the lightning storm move

Eh, purely lightning magic only would have at least the additional restriction that you can't offset the elemental imbalance, so either storm ring for +50% damage and basically dealing with attack cooldowns or link of fire and sky and having "weaker" damage output; really, it is more of a filler or beginner challenge: start with mage, skip sodden knight (probably hardest part of the challenge), grab lightning bolt from the hidden passage and then go to town. Can't think of a way to make lightning more interesting; I just found it funny that it is - next to arcane which I forgot about - the only damage type that wasn't present in a challenge run just by itself.

I've always found poison to be the best way for dealing with the Mistake-by-the-Lake. My tired noggin thought for a minute that you said you went to the Watching Woods and joined "The Stoners"....that would be, um, an interesting way to interpret this odd plants-obsessed sect. Hardcore plus enemy counting would create an interesting additional way to gauge how far an incomplete hardcore run got, if it was also an all-enemies-killed run.

I do remember using poison in my playthrough, and aside from the initial resistance dudes, was pleasantly surprised how efficient it was in many situations. I never got the spell, but I loved using the consumables for it. I especially have that weird memory of the possessed axe giving me trouble initially, until realizing how weirdly effective poison was on it

idea for a run; try doing all your prep work before fighting all the bosses back to back. I haven't played the game, but there are probably some weapons hidden behind bosses you wouldn't be able to use. maybe also use a different weapon to kill each boss for a different one?

poison stacking makes alot of sense! I wish more games let poison stack so it could be a main damage dealer rather then "apply and switch to a better weapon" that alot of games aim for. I also dislike games that make status builds a thing while also making a ton of enemies immune to statuses. Especially when there are ways around it, acid can be flavoured to be poison vs things without blood. Sicknesses can be ethereal or eldritch in nature, allowing poison to effect enemies of that nature.

I went with the poison bolts for the crossbow when I tried this. The game was hilariously easy this way. Combined it with a whip, and used the scorpion tail when I got my hands on it. After that, forget about it.

Actually, lots of foods are nightshades. Not just tomatoes, but also potatoes, cayenne peppers, bell peppers, cucumbers, onions, eggplants, paprika, radishes, the list goes on. So yeah, clearly, being a nightshade doesn't necessarily mean it's poisonous.

Try everything. Dont be afraid to try new weapons or build new characters. The game will probably be between 8-12 hours your first go, so starting over if you want to try a different build isnt a death sentence. Hopefully you find a build that suits you!
