kurt talked about it being adapted from more than a feeling’s chord progression - he sped it up and changed the order of 2 of the chords. it is documented in the book “heavier than heaven” if i remember correctly. the title is from a brand of girl’s deodorant called “teen spirit”. someone said, “kurt smells like teen spirit”. inspiration can come from anywhere if you don’t blind yourself to it. also, when geffen was bitching about there “not being another teen spirit” (a hit, in other words) on in utero he wrote “rape me” using a further altered version of the same chord pattern.

I agree I even paused this video when Billy says the first chords dun dun and was like no he’s got the rhythm wrong. Just listen to it. It may have been an inspiration but it’s different enough.

"No, it's not"? Not what? Similiar? It is obviously similar if enough people mention it for Kurt to parody it himself so I challenge your "no, it's not" with a "yes, it is, just watch the fucking video you are commenting on..."

@@Metal_Horror lol true. I still think it’s so funny in this video that he gets it wrong when he measures it out. It doesn’t go dun dun . It goes Dun da dun which kinda undoes his whole point. He doesn’t even get the rhythm right as he is comparing the songs. Lol

I like that Billy thinks it went over the heads of the crowd when people have been saying this since the 90s. Billy is so arrogant.

90% of young artists do this. You learn how to play a cool lick or a new technique and then you're like oh I can switch it up
