Everything is done so well. My favorite part is the use of “bewitch” in the chorus. The phrase “be with you” is used often in poetry, movies, and songs, that you think it as it’s being sung, only to realize it is “bewitch”. Thus, you are the one marrying the concepts in your mind, letting the actual phrase and the implied phrase mean whatever it means to you at the moment. It could mean someone you thought loved you was using you, or it could mean you are completely and totally enraptured by your beloved…I love this dichotomous approach, and it’s one of the reasons I love Ghost so much! Their lyrics take on different meanings based on my mood, so they’re very fun to listen to multiple times over. The visuals in the videos are so strong and engaging that I can’t help but visualize them when I listen to the song without the video.

Sister Imperator has finally pinned down the location of the adopted lost son and sets up for his coronation. Varg gets a mysterious invitation to a party which says "bring your friend Nihil", when they arrive the doorman doesn't recognize the long lost heir at first. When he takes a better look at him he sees it and welcomes them in to the party which is the coronation of Papa ;) The make up is def that of Nihil, not Copia.

Europe was in this turmoil in the late 1340s. The plague is extremely fast. It starts off as the worst flu you’ve ever had and then it just goes worse and then you’re dead after three days. So people were lying in the streets - corpses and all the surroundings were just falling apart. All the brothels and pubs were thriving because people started partying literally like there was no tomorrow because they were gonna die. They were just going for it. “Dance Macabre” is capturing that joyous nocturnal sort of life in a disco song.

Everyone: You can't make a song with dance/hard rock elements with satanism sprinkled in! Ghost: Hold My Beer...

Ok, you are right. The Satanism is theatrical. It does not make his comment any less funny. Get a sense of humor.

@@dootdoot94xo44 Hail Satan, Arcangelo. Hail Satan, welcome Year Zero. Need I say more? It's theatrical but they still have a Satanic theme. Furthermore, Ghost is here to be enjoyed, not for little shits to make themselves feel better in the comment section, so take your attitude elsewhere.

Never heard this before, but this song made the impossible, by unifying historical themes (the name "Danse Macabre refers to a particular practice during the times of the black plague in the Middle Ages and the inspiration from that it's crystal clear), metal music iconography and 80's pop songs danceability. And even if this is not my favorite kind of music, since I'm a more trash/groove metal fan, the song makes me wanna dance like a disco enjoyer. In a few words: positively impressed and speechless

the first 23 times i listened to this song ignored how awful the "wanna be wit chu" line was because i loved everything else about it, until i realized it was "bewitch you" and it quickly became the best and most clever lyric in the whole damn song.
