BFMC Principal Designer Robert Best narrates this video, talking candidly about his inspiration for the 2012 dolls (drawing from the early days of Barbie and of the BFMC® itself), and the experience of seeing fashion created before your very eyes.
In fact, as he elaborates on his inspiration, you'll get to see more than a half dozen artisans at work in the Barbie Collector design studios -- our own version of the "atelier." It's gently told, yet hypnotic and riveting. And it features dramatic appearances by all the dolls in the collection: Walking Suit Barbie, Afternoon Suit Barbie, Party Dress Barbie, Evening Gown Barbie, and Gala Gown Barbie.

I think the voice over is Robert Best. He was known for working on the Barbie Collectibles when he competed on Project Runway. Even though Best got eliminated from the show, his creative work on these vintage-inspired Barbies surpasses anything done on Project Runway.

Absolutely beautiful video! The original, vintage Barbie doll clothes were meant to be played with. Their high quality in fabric, design and manufacture allowed the doll’s garments to last a long time and be passed down.

My fave is the "Gala Gown" and the "Party Dress" Barbies... AMAZING!!!! I have ALWAYS been a HUGE fan of Barbie and would LOVE to own ALL of these!!! My husband every now and then shows up with a new barbie for me and it's so sweet! I just saw the world record holder for the most Barbies... 15,000... on tv... they weren't in the box though and that really takes away from it for me... what do you ladies think... and men too?

I guess it depends on the individual collector. Many debox their dolls because they love to pose their dolls in diorama-type settings, or swap/try different outfits/jewellery/ accessories on their 'girls'. Other collectors buy dolls as an 'investment'...hoping the dolls' values will increase over time. Although I love the look of many of the BFMC's (Silkstone collection), I'm not that keen on dolls with rigid limbs/poses. I tend to like dolls that are jointed...easier to pose and play with.
