Many years ago, back when I was a kid ( I'm now 69), that whole area of Crookhaven Heads (Crooky) was a dairy farm. It extended right back through where the caravan park now is and further down Culburra beach. It was all basic camping with long drop toilets and shelter sheds to catch the rain so that we always had water...The cows used to wander across that spit and up to the lighthouse where they would spend the day feeding...I have seen waves coming right across that spit during a King tide and, the view that you have of the reef is what we used to call suicide rock...great fishing but easy to get trapped out there by the sea.

Thankyou Andy. Another delightful adventure. Such a shame about the lighthouse.
