Just for the record, "I am singer" is not the usual competition. It is a reality TV show with well established chinese artists. These singers use the show to present themselves for weeks to a TV audience of millions. Dimash was the exception, he was invited as a wild-card and he became an overnight sensation in china.

This performance was the charity concert after the competition with the singers who'd taken part in Singer 2018 + guests fron previous years. Dimash was returning from Singer 2017. There was a sort of friendly contest as to which team of three raised the most money, but it wasn't the point of it.

Always respectful to the original singer, but Dimash makes each cover his own. He is passionate, using emphasis on some words, his tonal phrasing, vocal ability and stage presence is unique and without compare. Dimash always thanks the musicians as well.

There is a rumor going round that Lionel Richie or his legal team prohibited Dimash from ever using that song again.
