Wait… so WayneTech had a website in 1992 or 1993? Well, they were ahead of the curve by a bit. I kid, of course. I assume that the intro part was supposed to take place at least a few years later. Anyhow, on to the rest of the episode. So, you’ve officially done the one thing that I wished more Batman media did with Man-Bat. You actually did a little something called buildup. My biggest problem with most Man-Bat adaptations is that almost immediately after Kirk takes the bat serum he goes berserk and immediately grows wings, pointy teeth, and a ton of hair. Part of what makes Man-Bat’s original first three appearances in the comics good is that there’s buildup to Kirk’s descent into Man-Bat. It seems more realistic that it would take a while for a guy to fully transform like that and to become animalistic. It’s more unsettling, I think, to see a man slowly break down, as opposed to just suddenly going around attacking people. You also got his motivations perfectly. His desire to cure his hearing loss and help the world is very compelling and understandable. It also adds to the tragedy of the whole thing. You didn’t bring it up too much, but I liked the mention of his wife Francine, another great thing from the comics. Adds even more tragedy to this tragedy soufflé, that this man who only wanted to help others is torn away from humanity and the person he loves most, and can’t even communicate with other humans anymore. I often wish they could just get their happy ending, like they would’ve had at the end of the original Man-Bat trilogy (great story and perfect ending, by the way. I highly recommend it if you haven’t read it). Especially when it was revealed that they had children in the comics. But that has nothing to do with this video, so let’s get back on track. Hopefully Kirk and Francine get a happy ending in this universe, or as happy as an ending for them can be, but I sadly doubt it’ll happen. Still, who knows? I also think the voice for Kirk was perfect. He sounds ordinary and kind of meek, but in a good way. He sounds mild-mannered and kind of optimistic at first, but you can hear how he starts to break down. You can hear his concern, he growing fear, and in those last moments of humanity the insanity he’s fallen into. That scream was spine-chilling. Did you voice him? It sounds a bit like you, and I don’t recall seeing a credit for Kirk in the description of either of the episodes he’s appeared in, so I assume it’s you. If it is, great job. If it wasn’t you, still a great job to whomever it was that delivered such a fantastic vocal performance. I also liked the Vicki Vale news report. I expected this series to just be stuff recorded on tape recorders, but this series has pleasantly surprised me. First the stuff with Joker at Dr. Kellerman’s house, then the Killer Croc sewer footage, and now this. Really cool spin on this kind of stuff. Reminds me a lot of the audio tapes from the other Arkham games, as they had more audio that wasn’t just interviews. And Batman’s finally been mentioned! That’s fun. If he does actually appear in this series with audible dialogue, I expect it’ll be a while, but in the meantime it’s fun to see that he’s active out there, stopping criminals, having witty banter with Alfred, and doing other Batman things. And Hugo Strange has made his big introduction! Yay! (Still hoping for Jeremiah Arkham at some point, though.) I assumed it would be a while before we met him since he didn’t appear in the first two episodes despite being mentioned, but it was cool to see him either way. We didn’t hear him for very long, but I liked the voice. Very deep and menacing, not what you’d expect from a psychiatrist like him, yet it always seems to work, perhaps because he’s not a proper psychiatrist, he’s a manipulator and criminal mastermind as obsessed as some of his patients. Pretty good fit, now that I think about. So all in all, I’d say this is the best episode so far, and could possibly be my favorite. I’m not completely decided yet, that Joker session was just so good, but I this episode is technically the best. And yes, I do believe there is s difference between favorite and best. I think it’s the best on a technical level because it does three things very well that I was hoping for with this series. 1, it mixes horror and interesting character exploration very well. 2, it accurately adapts the character from the comics very well. And 3, it does cool stuff with its premise and with sound design and effects. So yes, a phenomenal episode. Fantastic job on this one. This series is really living up to its potential.

Guh, that last recording made my skin crawl. This is probably the best of the Arkham Files so far, I love the progression of Kirk slowly turning into a mindless beast, you can tell from his voice and how he describes what's happening to him in terrifying detail. Kinda wanna see something like this with Mr. Freeze or Clayface, where somehow they are slowly turned into a monster in a horrifying way.

Okay so, unlike the last two videos, this on doesn't have a patient number for a comic reference. However, with this either being a really good coincidence or a really weord reference, I did find one (hopefully). The date of Kirk's full transformation into Man-Bat is January 1993, the same month amd year a comic called Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #41 "Sunset" was released, which included an actress turned vampire and had a very "Man-Bat" esque appearance on the cover. Again, most likely a coincidence, but even this video's Man-Bat became somewhat of a silver screen vampire

You can slowly hear him lose his sanity through out each recording, there is a growing sense of dread in the beginning of each recording. He truly has lost his humanity...in return he has gained the very cognitive dissonance and physical attributes of a monster. The recording of him has phenomenal CGI! When you look at it in a certain way you can imagine what the civilians think, you see this creature on the top of a building and think that hell has come down on us, you see the very personification of a demon roam the city.
