A suggestion based on the build I think you'd have more success going rod into abyssal then full tank. Or maybe rod, sunfire then abyssal. You get ap from rod, magic pen from boots and abyssal lowers their mr so to make better use of abyssal's passive you go full tank while still doing decent damage

yeah, he def needs to be building sunfire to keep his damage up and maybe liandrys if he really wants to build more AP still. i really do think he should be building tear though, tear + catalyst/RoA would completely remove his mana problems and let him spam E as much as he wants on the wave in lane/sides without goin OoM, then fimbulwinter is cheap AF and lets him get a huge HP spike because of RoA mana and it makes his trading pattern even more obnoxious since they wont be able to fight back after the E's.

As an avid enjoyer of this style, if you prefer the higher ap build I recommend you to try sunfire rush into liandrys (buy sorcs when you can) into either abyssal or jak who and actually max w it slaps hars

luden compagnion* not sure spelled right, is also great, with a rod of ages you can go archangel scepter with it, you won't be glass cannon with the amount of extra mana you get from rod, and it's only good vs heavy hp tank like sion, mundo, a tank urgot, and if sorcerer shoes aren't enough consider switching them to a void staff later on, but normal abysall mask and sorc shoes are enough
