How To Fix Jeep JK Fuel Overflow

Have you had the fuel overflow issue where your Jeep spits fuel at you when the gas pump stops? It is an easy fix with a $40 part and 20 min of your time. This was a recall on some Jeep years so make sure you check first because you might be able to get this done for free. If not and you are in the same boat I was you can order the part here: www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/...
This replaces the factory Jeep fuel tube with one that has a check valve in it so it will not spit gas at you. Tube-Fuel - Mopar (CNNNX321AC) If you have any questions leave them in the comments and I will make sure to answer them.

Great video! I've had this issue with my 2008 JKUR for years! If I had known how relatively easy it was to replace, I would have done this years ago! I did get a letter back in 2013 telling me that my #jeep's warranty period on my fuel check valve has been extended to lifetime coverage. I brought Jeep to a dealer for this repair and they "lost my letter". Luckily, I gave them a copy of the doc and I just found the original - will reattack with dealership soon! What a pain.

Perfect video. Going to do this repair in a few weeks. Bought a 2010 JK Sport in 2018 and this has been bugging me. I too only have this happen in the winter months when the gas pumps change their nozzles. No idea what the difference is but between May - Oct. I don't have the issue. Then Nov.- Apr. I do. Just found 1 online and will do the repair in 2 weeks once I get my part in. I have tried the dealer route, actually 3 different dealers, and they all told me the same thing. Not under warranty, no recall for my Jeep and between $175-275 to fix. I'll do it myself for $40 and under an hour. Update.... The part is backorder indefinitely. They guessed at 6-8 months. Another winter of guess how many gallons to full and then subtracting 1 awaits me.

I have this problem as well! I get around it by turning my key in the ignition until the power comes on without the engine starting. I can then watch the fuel gauge rise in real time as I fill the tank. I can pump gas at a regular pace until the gauge nears the "Full" level. I then stop pumping for a few seconds to let the gas settle and very slowly continue filling. Right before the gauge hits the "F" symbol I stop. It's a bit of a guessing game, tho; wait too long and gas goes everywhere. It's a PITA work-around, but it still beats driving around in a ride that reeks of gas until the smell dissipates.

I just found your video. My 2012 started out just spewing at the end. Now, it does it all during fueling. I have to hold the pump at the right angle and go really, stupidly slow or I get fuel everywhere. I'm assuming it's all the same issue, so hopefully I can find this part and get it changed out.

It should fit, all the wranglers are the same from 2007 to 2018, other than engine and cosmetic changes, but the fuel tank should be the same

Is there a marking on the check valve so you're sure you're not installing it backwards?

Peter Koester no but it can only go on one way. One end is bigger to fit over the spout on the gas tank and the other side to the filler neck

My local Jeep dealer was able to order me this part. Mine is a 2010. I hope it fixes the issue. The guy wanted to sell me something else for $200. I paid $70 for the part.

I have this issue along with extremely slow fill times. It's gotten to the point where it takes 15 minutes to put in 20 bucks in fuel. I assume this would help with the "fuel burp" issue but any ideas on how to get it to take fuel at a decent rate? When I remove my fuel cap there is a noticeable hiss as air rushes into the tank so I'm thinking it's some sort of vent valve.

So I watched the video. Great advice thanks. I ordered the part and will instill when it arrives. I have another question though. My gas cap fault came on a few weeks ago. I bought a new gas cap cleared the fault and the fault still comes up. It’s also taking me like 20 mins to fill the Jeep up with gas. The shut off clicks off after about 3 seconds. I restart and click off again. Any ideas

Hey I had a problem with my gas cap fault light as well. It turned out, that there is a sensor that will do periodic checks throughout your fuel system to find any leaks. It’s called an evaporation system integrity module, or something similar to that. Basically there’s a piece in it that moves and when it gets old and worn out it’ll stop moving telling the computer that there’s a huge hole where gas is leaking (even though it’s not leaking) and that’s what’s causing your gas cap fault to come on. It’s about a 30 some dollar part, took 10 minutes to change and the light never came back. Check out some videos on that and see if that might be your problem as well

I just got off the phone with someone in the service department. He said there has never been such a recall. I asked him how they would fix it, since I’m obviously not the only one with this issue. He said they replace the filler neck, the gas tank, or both. He said because it’s a bad check valve…. Which we now know there isn’t a check valve to begin with. SMH. Dealerships SMH.

@@TheBeardedJeeper It looks like I’ll have to do the same. I found the part on eBay and Amazon. However, some reviews say the valve is sometimes installed backwards on the new part, which causes the fuel to spit out in seconds. Poor quality assurance on behalf of MOPAR.

I work at a dealership. The expiration date of this recall is December 31, 9999. Yes, 9999. They will order the part and fix it for free. It may take 2 or 3 weeks to get the part, though.
