Me and my brother own a real T-55 AM "Merida" here in Finland. It had paint chipping everywhere, the extra "cheek" armor was the worst. That was because the Polish Army had repainted it when modernizising it 1995. Just by painting it over the original paint... I had a ton of work to repaint it again. I painted it RAL 6009, the 6007 would have been closer to the correct, but at least it is no longer chipping... The extra armor has welds that do not rust (shiny, like stainless, the actual armor plate rusts mostly by pitting. The right hand side fuel tanks are rust free, but the spare oil tank between them was chipping and flaking all over. The most rearward tool box lid was chipping, like the most front one. all others rust free. The corrugated shield above the exhaust was chipping too. The shield plates under the exhaust on the rubber skirt are lighter green, sort of brownish green. The area front of the driver's hatch had the paint worn off before repaint, and the flat area just front of the turret had surface rust, even the repaint had been too thin. The steel mesh above the radiator, oil cooler and the fan wears to be eventually dull silver color or is not painted at all, it is stainless(those photo etched parts in the kit). The towing cables are protected (when new like ours) with grease wrapped with paper, and the paper peels off eventually unevenly. Ugly... The underside was still primer light red. Loader's and driver's hatches are white inside, the commander's hatch is dark green. Tow points are black. Side skirts are rubber, and the upper ones tend to lean outwards unevenly (there is no way to open the tool box latches unless they are bent outwards every time), the lower big ones are straight exept the front triangle ones that want to bulge out because the front fenders are always a bit bent. And, I had to build this exact kit to have a small decorative one. My model kit had faulty castings of the tracks, the bits did not connect , so I had to make thousand little cuts to make them fit together. Took two days.... The tracks are not rusty. They are gray/silver. The spare track parts are black. The road wheels right next to rubber have surface rust as they usually are not painted. The hubs have two bolt heads opposing each other red. And the worst thing: the steel meshes do not have the holes for the cover locking. And, again, the tracks are not rusty if used at all. And the front fenders are a bit bent. All areas around the toolboxes and fuel tanks are dirty black from oil and diesel. And the wire mesh is dull silver.

Good afternoon! Excellently assembled model, congratulations) Please tell me what kind of barrel your T55 has? Homemade? Or was it sold in this form in a model store? Thanks in advance for your answer!

BIG THANK YOU ! If you look at video 1 there is a review of the parts that I used. The barrel is part of an upgrade kit from Miniarm

That’s the best shade of Russian green I’ve seen. What brand and color name is that mate?

Greetings Bear, the T55 has turned out absolutely outstanding, you certainly put some extra work into the build, have you tried using something like Tamiya Tire Black? That is a excellent colour, very best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👌👍👌👍

Yes! Chipping makes it look like a toy! Do tanks lose paint on the edges of armor because they’re constantly driving through bushes that are 20 feet tall? No! Toys chip on the edges because that’s where they get handled and rubbed against things

Chipping, washes, pigments, highlighting nuts and bolts... nothing more than conventions to represent an afv. Abstractions, primarily defined by the available materials. Verlinden did it his way. Nowadays it's en vogue to do these techniques. Within a few years other techniques will be used.
