Re. invading smaller Kuwait for its oil reserves, what's constantly being left out from this story, intentionally or otherwise is that 1. Kuwait, at the instigation of the US, was STEALING Iraqi oil and 2. intentionally dumping it into the open market which made it impossible for Iraq to make a profit and to pay off it's debts to Kuwait 3. Iraq knew the US was behind all of this and PLEADED with the Americans, it's Kuwaiti allies and even the Arab League to influence Kuwait to stop the stealing and to stop the flooding of the oil to the global markets. 4. The Arab League was powerless, the US didn't alter course and the Kuwaitis continued as usual, setting the stage for the eventual Gulf War

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you both, and your entire famalies, from Nebraska. I hope you continue watching TFE, as his story telling is epic and very fun. Almost hard for me to believe he is from Iowa!! Joking, I love Iowa, and spent almost 33% of my carreer working all over that state. I hope to meet him in person someday, buy him a beer, and thank him for the entertainment and his service! Peace.

To answer your question about what it's like to go into battle the first time, it is a mix of fear, excitement and relief that we finally get to use the skills we've learned. Training kicks in and you almost act on autopilot.

If my high school history teacher had taught like this, I would have gotten a much better grade. His channel is definitely worth diving into. Check out the one about the war horse. I can't remember the horse's name, but it should be easy to find.

I had a Navy vet for my freshman and senior history and a Marine for my junior history. They certainly made it something worth learning, even if it was tedious at times. The failure to learn from history dooms one to repeat it.

Genuinely, as a vet , it's affirming to hear y'all appreciate us. ❤

This may have been explained by someone else here in the ol' comments section already but the quote from Reagan was part of a speech he gave while he was president. I believe the exact phrase was something like "The nine most terrifying words in the english language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
@lumenactus780310 ай бұрын
Yes, the irony of someone in government trying to convince you that “government bad” yet they seek office to run it.

I remember the 1957 Science Fiction horror movie Mantis about a 200 foot long Praying Mantis trapped in ice at the North Pole for millions of years that escapes and terrorizes people until it is finally cornered and killed in a Manhattan tunnel. One of the scariest Sci-Fi movies ever when I was a kid.

Good ol' Enterprise-Class carrier USS Enterprise (Big E) pretty much took out half of the Iranian navy fleet by herself using 2 planes. I believe we're going to be getting a Gerald R. Ford- Class Enterprise. The US Navy has named several ships throughout its history "Enterprise" dating back to the 1700s

The town over from mine has a WWII Japanese camp that they have turned into a museum and maintained it so it looks as it did in the 40's. I've been there multiple times and it is very interesting to learn about.
@chrismaverick982810 ай бұрын
The treatment in the internment camps was terrible, but you can understand why the camps were made. It doesn't make it right, and so many of those Japanese-American citizens could have helped the fight against the aggressors, but we cannot entirely judge a policy or event through eyes with 80 years of reflection to look back on. We can only learn from it.

To answer why Ronald Reagan was such a name drop is to give a pretty even comparison; imagine if he said ".. and the Prime Minister at that time was, let me check my notes, fucking Margaret Thatcher."

Isn't it funny how April 18th keeps coming up with significant US military "raids". Both the Doolittle raid, and the death of Admiral Yamamoto took place on April 18th.😉

@ 20:00, when Iran decided that enough wasn't enough and wanted to keep fighting, it sounded just like Monty Python and the Holy Grail when he bumped into the Black Knight. After he ended up losing both arms and legs, he told him to come back and fight like a man ..

11:45-12:10 "You've been training for this." Training is one thing, when it's real is when you find out whether your fight or flight response wins. Even people who have been through it, can't be certain of their reaction "next time" There are so many variables in a person, and so many variables in a situation. I can't fault someone who just can't when it hits. Experience can be a blessing or a curse the second time, because now you have a better idea what can happen. For some people that makes it even harder to cope with.

A praying mantis is a large locest looking bug that has its head rise up with 2 armed in the praying stance, and it's capable ( eats other bugs).

Regan saying. “I’m from the government. I’m here to help.” Lmao. If you’ve seen the full speech. If the government ever says that, “Run”. It’s a bad omen. Which made that insert genius.

Yeah, he did say that, with tong-in-cheek, as a joke.
