I’m still curious as to why it’s better than a jackpot, I understand in the states you pay taxes on gambling wins but I was under the impression that was only if you win over a yearly period. Which is highly unlikely? So aren’t you better winning more

Most states you pay taxes on each jackpot $1200 or more per incident not per year.

So, the tax situation here really is horrible and certain states take out "state and local" tax which you may never get back as it's mandatory at the time of Jackpot. So technically there can be times when you win more by winning a little under $1200 then winning a little over $1200. In the end though, the phrase essentially means "I won at least $1200 over the course of the session but not a single win of $1200 or more" .
