Love the tips on flat lay lighting -- so difficult to get it just right. My favourite extra is the where you say you'll play around with the composition for another twenty minutes as I keep playing with angles, story etc. Only I measure it in hours!

Hi Joanie, Oh my god....I have watched almost all your videos in the last week and I have been playing around with the tips that you give. I have also tested some shots in Manual mode as opposed to Auto or others, and I almost want to cry....from happiness....The difference is night and day, I could never imagine that a photo can be so affected by certain things...Really I want to cry and jump around screaming from joy..Thank you. I wish I could show you the before and after pictures and how your advice and guidance has improved my photos. I don't do food photography, I do clothes flat lay photography right now and your information applies 100%. I'm so happy. Thank you thank you thank you. I also love your vibes and watching your videos is pretty addicting, you are so funny, beautiful and fun. :)

Thank you for your tips. I've been watching several of your videos as well as others, and I just finished my first flat lay project. When the light was coming down from the top of the frame, all of the items looked really good, but I had very long shadows. When the light was almost directly behind the camera, the shadows looked good but the products looked awful. Unable to strike a happy medium, I comped two shots in Photoshop. I was pretty happy with the results. I wouldn't have been able to do that if I was just standing on a chair holding the camera. You helped convince me to invest in a C-stand. So thanks for that as well!

Hi Joanie, First of all you are the best ever, you are making a huge improvement on other’s lives and I am on of them 💪💪 Just would like to ask, i need artificial light, what is that rectangular one you use? And is this good for cooking videos also? I don’t have large space at home for soft boxes, so this one or soft box?

Hi Joanie! I am so appreciative of your tutorials! I am wondering if you might do a video about how you set up your C-stand for flat lays, and why you choose to use a C-stand vs. a tripod for flat lays? Also, I see many successful food bloggers shooting everything hand held. Maybe you could talk about the pros and cons of each - tripod vs c-stand vs hand held. Do you lug your C-stand to location shoots? Also, maybe a video about your on location tool kit? What/how much stuff do you bring?
@TheBiteShot

Great tips and really cool presentation! I just wanted to suggest that despite having a sturdy cstand or tripod, if you are shooting at 1/30 it would be better to use a remote, mirror lock up and 2 or 10 second timer to minimise wobble. I use the manafotto 190xpro3 and it wobbles like a diving board if you are not careful!

What focus point will you choose when taking flatlay?in the middle or let camera run auto where it might pick a few focal point?
@TheBiteShot
@TheBiteShot 6 жыл бұрын
Depends on the particular flat lay. In this one, the focus is set on one of the donuts so that all of the donuts are in focus being that they're on the same plane. Generally, whatever you intended subject is, I use one shot with a single point focus.
