I used to think British accents for rap was weird. Through Ren I’ve become used to the high tone voice and British accent, to the extent that it’s a breath of fresh air compared to the typical low tone “alpha male” voice, with American accents… which now sound boring to me…coz that’s what everyone does. Taking time to educate your ear to certain music/language/accent is totally a thing. I used to like metal but kept saying I disliked doom. If I’m honest, all the songs sounded the same to me. My hubs love doom, so I got to suffer through a few long road trips 😂 However, what that did is get my ear used to that type of sound, leading to a better understanding, leading to a better appreciation.

The thing is, Ren can sing in any octave range, so if he raps at a higher register, it's a choice...to raise the lyrics in the mix....and since his lyrics are more complicated than the typical "oh yea", "yo yo", "bro"....its probably a wise choice :)

Glad you love this track. Yes you were right Black Speed about the Japanese sample used in Ren’s track Castles Made Of Sand. The track sample is Shiki no Uta or Song of the Seasons. It was used in the anime Samurai Chanpurū. The lyrics translate in English to: “When the night breaks again we'll say goodbye. Dreams are far away and dim. In the light that was chasing you. The title Castles Made Of Sand also reference Studio Ghibli’s Howls Moving Castle directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

Kudos to Ken! This is a great one. Ren added it as a "special edition" of the Sick Boi album to boost sales, as we were all working to get Sick Boi to number one (a lot of us Renegades bought the album multiple times on multiple platforms to help it get there). I think that's why there's not a video for it, and it's not available as a single. I'm glad you can relate to this one so much - I do too. I had a bone marrow transplant in 99 to treat acute lymphocytic leukemia. The months leading up to that were a rollercoaster, for sure, then the transplant, then the recovery ... but it saved my life, and I'm thankful for that!

I love how much fun you had with this song. This is a bonus track on the album I doubt he would make a video. It actually came on the second album he put out, it might have been a few days before the deadline date for the number 1 album that he did achieve. Many including myself bought both to get him to the top. I'm from the States so really anyone from the States didn't count for the UK. It did help it make the Billboard here. The strength of using his own story helps turn victims into students, which starts conversations. The deeper you go, all the previous songs you didn't like will become future gems for you lol. Ask me how I know. 🤣 "Seven sins" is my favourite, since it was track 1 on Sick Boi with new listeners it could be a standalone for his whole story. Relentless lyricism.
