Omg, that Ficus’s roots. Wasn’t planning on repotting mine. But I’m going to now. Wish me luck.😅

Great tag team work. Those were some roots on that ficus. Loads of carnage above and below the soil. Thanks, keep growing

Oh, Mippy! I understand you so much! When I have a tree to repot, I watch some videos by Nigel and his root systems are always tidy and perfect. I remove them the soil from mine and it’s a big mess like yours! 🤣

So nice, let's all starting the planting trees right now^^

What a transformation Mippy! Enjoy developing the trees into your vision. So nice to see you teaching Nigel, did you enjoy it? Now someone has confidence thanks to your instructions

I have a willow leaf ficus that I just repotted and I did the same thing to the bottom. I'm glad to see that I wasn't crazy and the correct thing according to Nigel. My tree is still alive and is pushing out new leaves and a branch. It would be nice to see Mippy's tree progression in a few months to compare it to mine. Thank you Nigel...I'm getting the courage to get over the carnage I'm now producing.

I hope Mippy can return when it is time for repotting that Willow Leaf Ficus. It was interesting to see that monster mess of roots (please, Mippy, don't move away). Now I got the feeling that you, Nigel, have your trees so well formed that we don't get to see real problem cases much. But "ordinary" growers must have to deal with real problems fairly often.

I'm not planning on going anywhere but even if I did, a drive to Nigel's is always worth it!! I'll be sure to document it when it is time to repot again

Oh my! What a nice chocolate gift! I was hoping to cross the border into Canada this summer when it opens up for us in the US to go to Tropical Expressions. But they apparently don’t do Phytosanitary certificates for plants. Maybe I could just buy some bonsai pots? At a 1 1/2 hour ride from Buffalo, it’s the closest place with supplies other than mail order

The Ficus Ben turned out great, it's going to be awesome as it matures! I have willow leaf ficus and worry about that very problem. It's been a struggle to keep it both healthy and work towards making it attractive, especially with the winter that just doesn't want to go away. This was a great little mentor video and I hope it become a new series, Nigel. I really enjoy seeing the first major refinement stage. As I start collecting material, I seem to have similar challenges with my trees.

Oddly (?) I like the bulbous roots on my ficus ben. They've heaved themselves out of the soil and give a 'turtleback' impression...

Well done Mippy!!! Your trees look great. Nigel is the Jedi Master of Bonsai imparting knowledge to the young Padawan. Next we will see you prune with a lightsaber.

Hey Nigel! I've got a very similar ficus as the first one and it had that potato-like roots which I cut entirely leaving just white stump at the bottom like Mippy's saber leaf ficus, but with no fine roots at all! Now after one or two months it is still struggling to survive pushing out new leaves, so I think it was worth the effort after all! :D Like you said before, aftercare is the key! Cheers for Mippy and fingers crossed! :)

I just butchered a store bought benjamina plant in an attempt to make a tree. So far, one of the trees is losing all of it’s leaves as I’m trying to fuse three plants together. I hope they grow back. I’ve never had that happen to any of the microcarpas I’ve butchered.
