I can recommend all 3 types of Sequoias for the smell. Also they do grow pretty well and react very positive to trimming, means they ramify easily. Thx for sharing.

That cedar clump is a most fortuitous gift from nature. ~ I was recently gifted a 5 foot tall potted ‘dragon tree’, aka, Dracena marginata with a nice slanting structure to its muti-headed trunk. What’s most interesting about it is it’s bizarrely convoluted above ground nabari. I’m planing to plant it in the ground but I will need to devise a setting, probably with rocks, that will help emphasize the uniqueness of the roots.

Is there an update to this tree? I am copying this after watching the first video you did on this tree. Mine has a similar size trunk. Just pruned it for the first time a month ago, but I think I pruned my branches way shorter than you did. If only I had seen this video before.

The pruning went well and the tree is growing nice and strong again! I think I would do the pruning more towards the middle of July next time, it took quite a while before the new branches came in!

Have there been any updates on the dragon tree? I scrolled through almost 2 years of videos but I didn’t see anything. I may have missed it but if there is one can you link me to it? If not can you do an update? I’d love to see how the dragonblood style turned out.

My guess... it died off, I was also searching for an update. :D I think that ONE sick branch was an sign for rootrotting... My five headed hydra was looking all good, one morning ALL five branches snapped off and were hanging down... :( I did cut off the five heads and some more of it and sealed it. The heads did all good into new plants... but any other part of the plant as well as the thick trunk did just rot away... The moment I noticed something was wrong the rotting was already on the level the branches snapped off without looking rotten.

Do you worry about trunk size getting thicker on your seed grown trees? Prune early or trunk chop later.

How many ml of nutrients should I have in my water when feeding daily? I'm using an NPK 3,0-1,0-4,4 right now. Its in a 1l liquid container, I know it a hard question but approximately I mostly have tropical trees like figs:)

Nigel, I have a 30 year old field maple with extensive Nebari, I have a sucker I think you would call it growing from one of these surface roots, is there any way of keeping it and keeping it as a separate tree.Or should I just pull it off?
@TheBonsaiZone5 жыл бұрын
You could develop it into a connected root style planting, you might have to trim the main tree to give the sucker room to grow and to get enough light.

How often do you water your Euphorbia milii?
@TheBonsaiZone5 жыл бұрын
It usually gets watered every day in the summer, if the sun is shining. It seems to be able to handle the daily watering and fertilizer without a problem. In the winter I water it maybe once a week, but this depends on how much sun we get too.

Random question to an expert.....I have some small white oaks I wanted to make into a forest but i'm not seeing very many images of white oaks as bonsai forest. Are Oaks unpopular for a forest because they grow so fast or some other reason i'm not foreseeing?
@tayh36455 жыл бұрын
I think it's mostly just the leaves. Most oaks (save for a few exceptions like Q. phellos) have huge leaves that don't miniaturize easily/well. So they tend to be used for much larger bonsai. I've seen a sparing few oak forest plantings, but honestly during the summer they just look like a shrub. In winter the intricacies of the branch structure can be appreciated, but over the summer they tend to just look like a big oak bush. I don't want to dissuade you though. If it ends up not working out you can always still split them up and train them individually.
@benbishop11315 жыл бұрын

What a coincidence, just yesterday at Walmart I bought what I didn’t know was a “dragon tree”, but thanks to your video I now know I have a “Dracaena Marginata Colorama” in a 4'' pot. Yeah! I just bought it because of the cool colours 🎉🎊🎈💚💚💚. I’m going to try and bonsai it like yours ... when it grows a trunk, that is. How old is your tree? 5 or 6 years old?

Nigel if you're going to have the camera positioned so you're back lit, please invest in a simple reflector so you can fill the shadow and light the scene better, its getting hard to see.
