@@theboredcyborg Nah dude you'r good just wanted to point it out. Got to be honest amazing collection and I am so jealous that you have that Biollante blu-ray, that is my favorite heisi Godzilla film. Also shocking, but I did not care for the Gamera trilogy, but I need to rewatch them. I Really want to check out Daimajin, I also enjoy 98 Zilla. I think you will enjoy Shin Godzilla, it's slow, but very engaging in my top Godzilla films. Also didn't care much for 2014's Godzilla, but enjoyed the sequel.
@theboredcyborg
@theboredcyborg 4 жыл бұрын
No doubt, man. I appreciate the kind words. It’s a shame that Biollante is so damn expensive-it’s definitely one of the best Godzilla films. I’m surprised you didn’t like the ‘90s Gamera films! I think they’re some of the best Kaiju out there. Hopefully you get more out of them your next go round. Daimajin is awesome. Glad to see some love for ‘98 Godzilla. Im all for a slower burn of a Godzilla film if it delivers in the end. This is part of what makes the original Gojira the masterpiece it is. It seems you and I have similar Kaiju sensibilities!

Wow, epic collection. Fun hearing your quick thoughts on these, many of which I’ve never heard of to be honest. Vincenzo Natali made that “Into the Tall Grass” Netflix joint. It was... all right. Speaking of unproduced films though, a shame his dream project Neuromancer never came together. Is “I Saw the Devil” Chan-wook Park? I didn’t think it was. Anyhoo, I also recommend the UK Blu-ray - has the uncut Korean version. Thanks again, awesome collection!
@theboredcyborg
@theboredcyborg 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, my friend! I'll have to check that out! I thought he was relegated to TV at this point. I've seen all his other films, and would love to do a retrospective. And, yes, I've been holding out for "Neuromancer" for maybe 10 years now?! I don't think it's going to happen. It was supposed to be a miniseries, and after his box office failures, I think they canned it. Neromancer is one of my favorite novels, and I think Natali gets Gibson more than any other filmmaker (check out the underrated, Cypher!) And, I've failed... Jee-Woon Kim directed "I Saw the Devil", not Chan-Wook. I get the holy South Korean triumvirate of Chan-Wook Park, Jee-Woon Kim, and Joon-Ho Bong confused at times. But, thanks for pointing that out. And, I did not know about the uncut version. I will have to hunt this down. I always appreciate your knowledge of the hobby! Thank you for watching!
@mjolnir426
@mjolnir426 4 жыл бұрын
@theboredcyborg Natali still has plans for feature films, but getting those “medium budget” projects greenlit isn’t easy, sadly. When _David Fincher_ struggles to get movies made in that budget range... well... A retrospective would be groovy! I love “Cypher,” a movie no one talks about (could use a ‘retrospective plug’). Natali’s “Paris, je t’aime” segment is wonderfully atmospheric, too. Neuromancer has been in development hell for 20 years now. I remember the early days when Chris Cunningham was going to direct. Based on the concept art and screenplay excerpts Natali has posted, in addition to his other films and interviews, he got it completely. I don’t think he was fired, but maybe - he hasn’t said anything specific as to why he departed Neuromancer. I believe the momentum of Splice got him attached, then the project was stuck in development for ages again, with several false starts and the usual difficulties. Oh well, there’s always The Peripheral - fingers crossed for that project. No worries, so many titles and directors to remember as you briskly went through the collection. All favorites of mine, as well. A Tale of Two Sisters, Memories of Murder, and Oldboy came out on DVD around the same-ish time, and what a glorious introduction. Happy hunting, and thanks for the kind words, I dunno about knowledge. 😅
@theboredcyborg
@theboredcyborg 4 жыл бұрын
You know your shit! Glad to see some love for "Cypher"! I think I'll start working on that Natali retrospective. I'm sure I'll be the only one in the internet with a video like that, haha! I haven't seen his segment in "Paris, je t'aime", but I don't doubt the atmosphere--Natali excels in that realm. Poor Neuromancer... I'd like to think it's inevitable. Especially with the TV and miniseries boom. Yeah, the concept stuff (which I haven't looked at in years) is great. He gets it. I heard about "The Peripheral"--here's hoping it gets made. Wow. That's wild that all three of those excellent films were released around the same time on home media. Always enjoy the chats with you, my friend!
@mjolnir426
@mjolnir426 4 жыл бұрын
@theboredcyborg Sounds very good. Choosing a title will be fun given the lack of Natali videos... anywhere. There’s also his movie “Nothing,” I have the DVD somewhere. If you don’t have the chance to track down “Paris, je t'aime”... search for “Quartier de la Madeleine” here on KZbin. Who knows, right? 😁 Indeed, and some day when I’ve forgotten all about a Neuromancer adaptation, it’ll pop up on a streaming platform or on the big screen. Amazon did greenlight and pick up The Peripheral. Sometime in 2021, perhaps. The early 2000s were a terrific time for especially South Korean and Japanese ‘built-to-last’ cinema. The Hollywood movies around then were very... of their time and ropey CGI/soundtrack-centered. Likewise, and pardon the endless rambling as always.

instead of selling the limited edition of the films you like, why don't you get rid of the films that you didn't watch?
@theboredcyborg
@theboredcyborg 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. Simple answer: I still want to watch those films before I chuck them. Also, I sold those editions for over $100 at the time. I’d have to sell a bunch of movies to make that. And, after all, the FILM itself is what’s most important to me. The packaging was beautiful and fancy, but the editions had the same features, etc. Trust me, I’d prefer the limited edition, but it’s all about owning the movie in some capacity for me. It was quick money that got me out of a hole. I hope that answers it!

I've got to ask, have you watched The Bye Bye Man? I watched it recently and noticed a bit of a phenomenon that I've been thinking about a lot. I'm sure you're aware of the abysmal public perception of the film and the multitude of negative reviews on the internet. I discovered that when it was released, it was heavily censored and recut to earn a PG-13 rating. Many of the important flashback scenes were outright deleted and replaced meaningless shots of the antagonist. Most of the blood was completely removed from the PG-13 release. The problem is, the majority of people watched the film either in theaters, on Netflix, or through Redbox, all of which received the heavily edited version. Naturally, since so few were pleased with the film, very few people purchased the Blu Ray release which is the only way to see the unrated version as intended by the director. When I watched it, I was very impressed with the film and quite enjoyed it's unique ambiance, storytelling, and the protagonists' descent into madness. I was dumbfounded as to the public perception, which of course led me to this research. Really, I just think it's an interesting case of how censorship can make or break a film. If you haven't seen the unrated version, I highly recommend checking it out with a fresh perspective!
@theboredcyborg
@theboredcyborg 4 жыл бұрын
I have not seen it yet! But, holy shit, you've piqued my interest--I had no idea this film was studio-fucked into oblivion. I'm interested. Keeping my expectations low, but we'll see! Luckily, I do have the unrated cut! Thanks for research and info, my friend, and thanks for watching!

First of all Mike congratulations on 1000 Subs. I know I've told you this before I was around number 50. So again congrats on the big 1k. Now for a little Twilight Zone episode for you. So my baby girl (she's 30) has subscribed to your channel. So she tells me the other day. Oh I know this dude. I subscribed to another channel that he had. And I've got a shirt from them. She proceeds to tell me that I have watched other videos with you in them years ago. Not wanting to brag Mike but I am fantastic with names and faces. So I tell her she is sadly mistaken. I've never seen any other videos that he has done. WHAT THE HELL MIKE!!!!!!! HiBlog you was half of that. So then we went down the KZbin rabbit hole for the next 45 minutes watching old HiBlog videos. WOW just WOW. If me & her would have bet I would have lost money no doubt about it. I have watched all your latest videos just really haven't had the time to comment on any of them. Been working 65 to 70 hours a week while the world is going crazy. But I felt that I needed to congratulate you on the 1K Subs. Keep putting out the great content Mike. And I did find your creepy clown video very informative. Why, thank you. I'd say whether a particular film is horror or not is subjective to an extent. Black Swan is a psychological horror film about obsession, in my opinion. The Cell is about a woman who taps into a serial killers mind to figure out where a victim is hidden--pretty horror-ish to me. The Box, I haven't seen. I enjoy me some "fluff cheese" on occasion. It spices things up a tad! Thanks for watching.

Ya see, I have this rule... I have to watch them in order. Save for the Shusuke one (All Out Monsters Attack), since I was obsessing over the director. I know they could be viewed as stand alone, but there are still nods and callbacks, and I want to “get” those. Inspiration is a big part of my passion for film, and it’s essential for me to see that inspiration roll along. In due time, I plan to binge through them before King Kong v Godzilla remake.
