Physical media/blurays,games and books, for me, are for prepping/are for knowing I have these things, NO MATTER WHAT, that being said, I also have PDFs/digital copies as well, that I buy separately/ none of these came from the physical bluray boxes/Physical books/ I buy these separately, and I don't have to log in to ANYTHING/be connected to the internet/ping a server, to prove I own it/to watch them/read them, and I can put them on any device, such as tablets/flashdrives/computers/multiple hardrives/SSDs and so on, AND I ALSO have Netflix,Hulu,Amazon Prime,HBO Max, CBS All Access, Disney Plus,Starz,Showtime,Cinamax/DIGITAL Direct TV and so on, BUT MOST of the time, I go the digital route, mainly for convince. I also have a gig down and gig up speed, no caps/restrictions, I don't think I can think of a time when my internets gone out, my power goes off, RARELY, BUT I do remember it going off, MAYBE 3 times this year, no longer than 2 hours, most of the time, less than five minutes, granted I do have a generator/solar/batterie back ups, as well, BUT yeah having those physical blurays/books/games, as a back up, DEFINITELY makes me feel better. I also don't have ANY DVDs, at this point/480p resolution wise, is just to low, FOR ME anyway, 1280x720p/720p, IS OKAY, BUT I prefer 1920x1080p/1080p or higher. I've been buying blurays since 2006. I do have 1 thing on DVD, BUT only, because its not been made on bluray, YET. Thats SG1, the complete series/ALL 10 Seasons, I have Atlantis, SGU AND ALL of the other stargate movies AND all my other movies are ALL on Bluray though/EVERYTHING else, BUT that, is on bluray. 1080p is perfect, 4k, isn't worth it, AND 5K/8K players don't exist, SO thats not an option, digital high resolution content, COULD be an option though,IF it wasn't compressed visually or audio wise. All of my displays, AT THIS POINT, are 4k/3840x2160p, My biggest 4k display, is 75inches and my smallest 4k display is 42inches and I have 10 of those, one in my bedroom, AND 3 at each of my desks/I have 3desks/offices/office areas, EVEN my projector AND laptops ARE 4k, AT THIS POINT/I started making the transition to 4k, in 2012 and finished in 2018, AND I have ONE 7680X4320P/8K 50inch display,BUT 1080p and 4k, isn't a big enough jump, for me, 5k and 8k, IS though/5K looks really really good AND 8K is AMAZING. I mainly have 8k and 4k, for gaming though/ I have two desktops, they both have 64GBs of RAM,2 3090s in SLI and I9s. My main laptop has a 17.3inch 4k display, an I9, 2080 and 64GBs of RAM. I also have other linux laptops, that have I5s and 8GBs of RAM, they are 15inches. All of my systems have Manjaro linux AND windows 10 on them. At this point, the MAIN RULES, UNLESS, your trying to utilize old hardware/loading BODHI/Lite Weight Ubuntu or something on an ALREADY purchased machine; The rules are, NO TN panels, IPS NOW, 1080p or above, ALSO 16x9, is a requirement, UNLESS you have a specific task/reason that you NEED a crazy aspect ratio, NO dual core CPUs, quadcore/four core OR ABOVE, 8GBs of RAM, OR MORE, ALSO SSDs are really helpful for boot times/over all speed.

I have the film Quo Vadis. It’s from 1960-70 I think. It’s gorgeous. You get commentary with it and trailers. There are 20,000 extras on the set and it makes the scenes mind blowing. You find out how certain scenes were done.

This is a good point. I'm not much of a stickler for picture quality (I watch public domain horror movies that look like they were shot with a disposable camera,) but this is a point I failed to mention. The quality is definitely better when my internet hiccups and send the movie I'm watching into a fiery abyss for moments at a time. I hate that shit. I wholeheartedly agree with you. There's something about owning a movie physically that just isn't there with streaming, something out there in the aether. Like having a library of your favorite books - each one, book or film, is a memory that I tend to associate with that time period in my life. I truly miss the days of going to a video store and spending time going through the collection to decide on what movie to buy or rent. Just loved the browsing. And you'd sometimes never know what you'd come across. Some of the best video stores were the "Mom & Pop" stores, not the chain-stores, cuz a lot of the time, the family-owned stores were the ones that had more of the hard-to-find and obscure films. It's just best to have something to hold and read and store in the collection. It's the same thing, with me, for music.

I can't agree more with these wonderful sentiments--we are on the same page, my friend. The video store days are some of my fondest childhood memories. Even walking into the grocery store to rent or buy video games and VHS. It was magical to me, as it sounds like it was for you. Some of those movies I remember seeing the covers for, or even renting, back in the day I still haven't relocated. Mom and pop video stores all the way. It wasn't until Blockbuster consumed them all that we were forced to rent there. Loved this comment, genuinely. It brought back many a good memory. Thanks for sharing! Keep physical media alive!

The other problems with streaming is that not everyone can afford it, seeing as some people have to get multiple ones to get what they want. And also, things are taken off at times, so you can’t watch what you want. With Physical media, you can just go to the shelf, pick what you want, put it in the player and watch it. I have a collection and I’m proud of it. 🙂

Interesting reasons for many I can totally relate to. Some of the reasons I stick with physical media is with many physical copies you also get bonus discs with extras and behind the scenes of the film which is something a streaming service may not offer and may not be viewable elsewhere. Also I often collect as they can be rare (particularly limited prints such as steelbooks). Subscribed. 👍🏼

Nathan Carter I love the extra features that you get. That’s another reason why I stick with DVDs, as streaming does not look to have them. Also you get commentaries for movies and episodes of TV shows that streaming would not provide. I have a 4 disk set of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. 1 is the film, which has commentary, the others are of lists of extras on how it was made, the inspiration for the book, the author, and so much more.

I am 100% with you! My collection is about 650 strong right now, and it's because of growing up with the wonderland of different worlds at the finger tips (blockbuster for me and at that age the shelves are so high). My collection started I want to say when I was 10 with The Matrix and the series Charmed since I watched that religiously as it aired (also removed from Netflix recently) and it has been growing ever since with dvds, blue rays,vhs, TV series, I love completing a TV or movie series! I will never part with my collection. Your collection is a dream, keep it up!

I set up a Plex server because I like having the disks but it is also really nice to be able to browse a bit anywhere and find something to watch. No having to switch out disks to move from one movie to another and you can binge tv shows the same way as you would on Netflix. It also remembers exactly where you left off so you can resume any time you want.

Great video, I too have my own collection and have people ask about it. I always compare my movie collection to people’s art collections. You can go online and look at any picture you want of any popular painting there is. You can even download photos of these paintings onto your computer and save them in a file. But that doesn’t make you an art collector. The same is true for any collection really. Printing out a bunch of photos of minerals doesn’t mean you have become a mineral collector. Being a collector is about the “hunt” and the time put into your collection and having some tangible evidence to show for your passion.

I 100% agree with you, I too shop wisely and probably spend the equivalent of $50 a month mostly in local thrift stores or pawn shops where the staff know me and offer me special deals like 3 for a dollar. I also believe in film preservation and that every movie in my collection is loved no matter how bad it is.

What you stated in this video is a reflection of why I still collect DVDs and Blu-rays. There's a sentiment to it. You own these movies, it also shows your personality in what movies you're into. You to go someone's house that just does streaming and you don't see their collection, its....kinda hollow. If it's a situation whereby someone's living in a small house/apartment, that's a completely different kettle of fish where they may want to collect but don't have the room. As you highlighted, Streaming Platforms can have movies taken away, in 2012 and 2018, respectively, Netflix lost 1997's Titanic and the original Jurassic Park trilogy. And, when you buy the movie on DVD & Blu-ray you're only paying for it once. To continue to watch it on Streaming, you have to pay monthly fees. I'd rather pay the £15 once for Jurassic World on Physical, as opposed to paying the £5 a month to keep watching it on streaming. There's one other thing, not too many people touch upon....what if your Internet goes out and you want to watch your movie on Netflix and you're not able to? This is why physical media players don't require a constant connection. Blu-ray requires firmware updates on occasion, but they're not constant. And the other reason I won't go completely to streaming is this - it keeps the Postal workers employed along with Physical Media retailer stores. And sometimes it's nice to walk into a store going for a specific item, then you spot something you weren't expecting to find and you pick it up as well. It is so refreshing to find someone on here that understands why I collect Movies on DVD & Blu-ray as well. Very good video

Totally agree. No one on the planet has the collection I have, and I mean that in terms of its contents alone. My collection reflects who I am as a person, I truly believe that. Just like your collection reflects who you are. It's a beautiful thing. Good point about paying once (despite "upgrading" formats). I like to collect DVDs and Blu-rays of my favorite movies and TV shows. There are a lot of people on KZbin who buy DVDs and Blu-rays blindly, and then find out some of the movies are garbage. I always watch the movie first online for free, and then if I really like it I will buy it because a lot of extras come with it, like interviews, commentary, etc. I've never understood this trend for buying stuff without even seeing it first. Then mass regret. Some people say, 'at least I have the trash movie in my collection'. Why would anyone want a trash film in their collection Waste of money.

I totally agree with everything you said, something I find myself doing, is, when one of my favorite directors or actors passes away, I like to delve into my movie room and revisit their work (did this recently with Sean Connery films), it makes it more personal than simply streaming.

Physical media allows you to keep your stuff, as said in this video, it also helps truly supporting the things you like and also gives you a collector's feeling. It's also a plus as someone making videos to be able to put some of my stuff in my background. The menus (and boxes) should also make you feel like you're entering the world of the film/show. Heck, I own the Blu-rays of the Alvin and the Chipmunks saga (don't ask) and the menus are very well done.

X) To take the exemple of my Alvin & The Chipmunks saga on blu-ray, the main reason I bought it... was to just make videos about them but I'd be lying if I said I didn't kind of enjoy some of them and that's also why I put them on my shelf, where I film. I like it, it's odd but it's part of my channel. And yeah, there's nothing better than to look at your collection of whatever you physically collect, realize you own that thing or those things and go "Nice".

I love physical media too. But I found one major flaw. It's all dependent on as you said "THE MACHINE" I have over 100 each in my personal collection, dvd, blu-rays and video games dating back to the 1980's to today. Recently my PS3 broke. Then I realized my PS3 collection like all my rest would be usless without the console. Thankfully you can easily find a used PS3 online and hopefully we will never come to a day when we can't buy the machine our collection runs on.

I do love me some Tubi and Retro Crush, but I still prefer physical. I spend literal hours at Movie Trading Company, Half Price Books and Game Xchange trying to keep myself from buying too many used DVDs, and at least twice a month I see what I can get new at Dollar Tree and Big Lots (both of which tend to have a shockingly good amount of hidden treasures, especially horror movies.) Every once in a while if I really want something expensive I'll splurge on it like Hausu (House) or Survive Style 5+.

I agree with you on Netflix. I am 54 years old and remember a time when stores were closed on sundays and we had no cable and no video. I have over 2000 BDs alone. My brother tried to get me to get Netflix but I love all movies and Netflix only Carrie's films from 2000 to the present. I do have it for Lucifer and The Ranch. I also have Gone With The Wind, which may never come back out in it's original form.

Yep. I wish Netflix has older stuff, they just don't. If I stream, 99% of the time it's on Prime or Shudder. I love Prime's collection, to be honest. Just a hodgepodge of random genre flicks from every era. But still, I prefer the physical, haha! I am worried about these streaming services pulling movies--that's a slippery slope, in my opinion. @@theboredcyborg I just bought "War Of The Worlds" on Criterion disc but a couple of years ago a streaming site (Fandango Now) had the movie in 4K. I spent 13.99 for it then a couple of months later it was gone. I was furious because I bought it, not rented it. Another reason I'm pro-physical media is the fact that my apartment looks like a video store. I separate them into genres and alphabetize them. I also have shelves dedicated to the boutique companies such as Arrow, Blue Underground, Code Red, Kino, Raro, Scorpion Releasing, Scream Factory Severin, Synapse,vestron (Lionsgate) as well as Vinegar Syndrome.

Physical media/blurays,games and books, for me, are for prepping/are for knowing I have these things, NO MATTER WHAT, that being said, I also have PDFs/digital copies as well, that I buy separately/ none of these came from the physical bluray boxes/Physical books/ I buy these separately, and I don't have to log in to ANYTHING/be connected to the internet/ping a server, to prove I own it/to watch them/read them, and I can put them on any device, such as tablets/flashdrives/computers/multiple hardrives/SSDs and so on, AND I ALSO have Netflix,Hulu,Amazon Prime,HBO Max, CBS All Access, Disney Plus,Starz,Showtime,Cinamax/DIGITAL Direct TV and so on, BUT MOST of the time, I go the digital route, mainly for convince. I also have a gig down and gig up speed, no caps/restrictions, I don't think I can think of a time when my internets gone out, my power goes off, RARELY, BUT I do remember it going off, MAYBE 3 times this year, no longer than 2 hours, most of the time, less than five minutes, granted I do have a generator/solar/batterie back ups, as well, BUT yeah having those physical blurays/books/games, as a back up, DEFINITELY makes me feel better. I also don't have ANY DVDs, at this point/480p resolution wise, is just to low, FOR ME anyway, 1280x720p/720p, IS OKAY, BUT I prefer 1920x1080p/1080p or higher. I've been buying blurays since 2006. I do have 1 thing on DVD, BUT only, because its not been made on bluray, YET. Thats SG1, the complete series/ALL 10 Seasons, I have Atlantis, SGU AND ALL of the other stargate movies AND all my other movies are ALL on Bluray though/EVERYTHING else, BUT that, is on bluray. 1080p is perfect, 4k, isn't worth it, AND 5K/8K players don't exist, SO thats not an option, digital high resolution content, COULD be an option though,IF it wasn't compressed visually or audio wise. All of my displays, AT THIS POINT, are 4k/3840x2160p, My biggest 4k display, is 75inches and my smallest 4k display is 42inches and I have 10 of those, one in my bedroom, AND 3 at each of my desks/I have 3desks/offices/office areas, EVEN my projector AND laptops ARE 4k, AT THIS POINT/I started making the transition to 4k, in 2012 and finished in 2018, AND I have ONE 7680X4320P/8K 50inch display,BUT 1080p and 4k, isn't a big enough jump, for me, 5k and 8k, IS though/5K looks really really good AND 8K is AMAZING. I mainly have 8k and 4k, for gaming though/ I have two desktops, they both have 64GBs of RAM,2 3090s in SLI and I9s. My main laptop has a 17.3inch 4k display, an I9, 2080 and 64GBs of RAM. I also have other linux laptops, that have I5s and 8GBs of RAM, they are 15inches. All of my systems have Manjaro linux AND windows 10 on them. At this point, the MAIN RULES, UNLESS, your trying to utilize old hardware/loading BODHI/Lite Weight Ubuntu or something on an ALREADY purchased machine; The rules are, NO TN panels, IPS NOW, 1080p or above, ALSO 16x9, is a requirement, UNLESS you have a specific task/reason that you NEED a crazy aspect ratio, NO dual core CPUs, quadcore/four core OR ABOVE, 8GBs of RAM, OR MORE, ALSO SSDs are really helpful for boot times/over all speed.

There are a TON of films that are not on any streaming service. I scroll through Netflix just to find my self going back to my usual, Gilmore Girls. Streaming caters to mostly the millennials and it shows. The grandfathers of the film industry will never be on streaming such as the Universal monster classics and many 1920s silent films. Because the viewer base are to dumb to look past the Black and White. And due to licensing it's impossible to have every movie listed on any one streaming service. 99% of my collection does not exist on any streaming.

You are absolutely correct. So many damn films that ar eon the verge of being forgotten by the general public, who probably don't car either way, to be perfectly honest. I never understood the revulsion to black and white movies and the classics. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. The licensing and contract issues are big ones for me. No on can take my physical movies from me. They could try, but they'd have to pry them from my cold, rigor-mortis inflicted, dead fingers. Thanks for sharing, my friend!

Jeremy Drew I agree with you. Growing up I was not sure about black and white, as I was used to colour. I watched some old films. Now, I love both. I have some new films and shows, but others just don’t have the same impact and don’t feel as good. Love older films and Black and White now. Some I own would not be on streaming, and you would not the extras even if they did stream them. I have The King and I, Quo Vadis, Cleopatra, The Robe, just to name a few. Brilliant sets. Stunning costumes. Amazing music. Superb acting. Never giving these up.

Great video. I can totally relate to you about the video store trips. It was like walking into my own imagination in real life. I dream't about owning the movies I loved to watch. When old enough, I bought as much as I could. I'm not a collector but more like archivist. I want to preserve as much as I can. I have a family so budget is a concern. It sounds like you and I had a similar mindset growing up during the VHS era--a magical time to be a kid. I'm a collector, but I also consider myself a preservationist/archivist, like you. Aside from the obvious fact I own the movie, have guaranteed access to it, don't have to worry about not having internet if I spend a weekend off on the countryside, can borrow to my friends and coworkers... I can only say the most important thing: *Physical media has superior quality and a much higher bitstream than streaming.* Also quite a lot of cult classics, foreign films, great genre movies are pretty much *only* found on physical media.

I’m finally getting into movies again! For a second in my life my family couldn’t afford cable and the internet anymore so I had to buy physical movies for us to watch to be entertained. I got addicted to having the physical copy in my hands and popping it in my crappy Play Station 3. We got our internet back and I love Netflix to death for letting me have access to movies I’d probably never Watch otherwise but nothing beats physical copies

I've had very little experience with disc rot--I mean very little. Out of the thousand's of movies I own none of them show signs of disc rot. I've seen maybe a handful of movies out in "the wild" that have it, but I'm not sure what brings it about. I keep mine at room temperature, in my home, and I hope they'll last until I perish. it's anecdotal, but I hope this helps a bit! Thanks for watching.

You may already have a video on this topic, as I’m new to your channel, but I’d like to know how you organize your collection. You mentioned that you go alphabetical and sometimes by genre. I often have difficulty deciding how to organize my collection because some movies could be considered multiple genres, for example a film could be considered sci fi and action adventure AND fantasy (Krull), so which section does it go in? I’d love to hear how you divy up your movies. I’m going to look at your other videos now, hoping you’ve made a video on this.

Thank you for checking out my video! I don't have a specific video on this topic, but I've taken note, and would like to do something like this in the future. However, I do have multiple "collection videos" where I go over some genres in my DVD and Blu-ray collections and discuss this a bit. Feel free to check those out to get a visual on how I do it. With that said, the way I do it is based on subjective opinion of what genre it should go in. For example, if it's an action movie with sci-fi elements, it goes in sci-fi. If it's a straight up action film with no sci-fi/fantasy elements, it goes in action. Then I have martial arts action separate from "things blowing up and guns" action. Sometimes that could be hard to parse, but they have a particular feel. With horror, if there are ANY horror elements mixed with ANY other genre (comedy, sci-fi, action, romance, etc.), they go in horror. That's a bit of info on how I do it, but I'd love to do a video in the future discussing this topic. I very enjoy physical media I got a 10 inch INSIGNIA Portable DVD player plus a older 9 inch SONY FX970 portable DVD player which has a blown speaker but still plays disc The insignia replaces that Sony anyway I still have my portable DVD players for a reason to go back to my multiple dvd collection from Disney to Warner bro’s and Dreamworks movies I still watch them to this day it just. Feels rewarding to me. I watch digital as well but I support both but collecting movies is important to me as well

I kept all my old VHS and DVD but stopped buying any new ones years ago. I do use Netflix sometimes and I have found things older than 1999. Can't think of any specific titles at the moment but I know I have. Honestly mostly I come to KZbin for my entertainment and spend most of my watching time here. 2nd place is my cable TV service. Most of my time is spent though either hiking or creating things so I entertain myself. ;) My collection of books on the other hand is out of control. My dreams were/are to have a library room full of books. I sort of do now but they are also all over my house. I understand where you are coming from because of ebooks and audio books. Been following you two for a loooong time. I also thought about your experience with the video store. For me it was a book store and I still love the smell of walking into a proper used book store. Used to have a mom & pop one in my town until Half Price Books moved in. They are okay but they don't have the charm or the musty smell about old bookstores I love so much. Yep. That's what happens more often than not with Netflix shows. It really is about the thrill of the hunt. There's nothing better than that feeling of finding an out of print, super hard-to-find DVD for a buck at a pawn shop. Those little dopamine hits keeps you coming back. One thing I feel is important when it comes to physical media vs streaming is the cost. Streaming requires you to pay a monthly subscription to a service, whereas buying the dvd in a store you only have to pay for it once and once you’ve bought it, it’s yours to keep forever. Plus paying the monthly subscription over time adds up after a while y’know? At least where I am (UK), it’s £5.99 for the basic service. So if you’ve been using the service for say six months, that’s £35.94. When you could get a handful of DVDs for that price, perhaps even a box set. Additionally, you know what you are paying for with a dvd, compared to a streaming service where if you find that you don’t really like what they offer in terms of content or you’re not really using the service all that much to begin with, is it really worth paying at least £5.99 a month for it? Probably not.

And same thing for video games! My game collection for Nintendo's machine is not huge. But I wont buy digital downloads. For movies and TV shows - I got 100s of DVDs/Blurays now. Probably 500-1000. Need a good storage solution :) And I also have Netflix but I almost never watch anything on that. Now when Super Mario 3D All-Stars got released, I bought the physical copy. Of course. One thing I totally love is the physical product itself. The artwork. Maybe some booklet included. Or whatever. These steelbook boxes are cool - I buy them if the price is not too high.

Glad you enjoyed the vid! Great minds think alike, haha! I'lll only but digital games when a physical copy is not available. Unfortunately, this does happen on occasion. I hate when they release a game digitally, and then a year down the road print a physical release--drives me crazy. I've learned my lesson on that--just wait. If you have a handy person in your life, I'd recommend having them build a shelf suited perfectly to your needs in terms of size of movies cases and games. My stepfather had the tools and the knowhow, and taught me how to build these shelves you see. I've built 8 altogether up to this point. They run about $70 each, but do take a good 4-6 hours to make. I seldom find anything of interest on Netflix. Once in a blue moon. Prime is definitely a better streaming choice for the type of films I watch. I passed on the Super Mario 3D All-Stars. I want it, but I can't spend that money on three games I already have on their respective consoles. I get they've been "remastered", but I would've preferred a ground up "remake" of Super Mario 64, or at least a complete re-skin. For the most part, you and I are in alignment. Hard to spell check when typing on the mobile app. Yeah, if I'm handy and got the possibility - I would build a good storage solution :) Yeah I feel you - about Super Mario 3D All-Stars. I only have Galaxy 1 (and 2) for Wii. And I - had - Sunshine for GC (but no longer). Never had Super Mario 64. So for me, this was a "cheap" but a GOOD way to get Sunshine back again and Super Mario 64 was just a bonus. Still have my Wii so I could try to get the GameCube version of Sunshine. I actually still have the possibility to get Sunshine 2002 so I can play it with a GameCube gamepad. So in my case this 3D All-Stars was like "a gift from above". Nintendo did not done the "bare minimum" with 3D All-Stars. They did it better: "good enough". And of course they COULD have done way more. But I'm more than happy with what they did. What they could have done: added Galaxy 2, and added a 16:9 version of SM64 (and keep the 4:3 version so players can choose the 1996 experience or the 2020 remake experience). And the box could have been more exclusive - look at the 25th Anniversary version... Yeah digital downloads only. Sucks! Where this is 100% true: Stadia. For Switch, most digital downloads only will stay so. But - there are a few exceptions and I LOVE those! Do you know which games I talk about? Sonic Mania 2017 got followed up in 2018 by Sonic Mania Plus (physical release). Thank you SEGA 💖 and I think it was 2019 when Cadence Of Hyrule got released as digital download only - the physical release (all DLCs included!) will be now in October 2020. I don't know how to explain how happy I am for these physical releases for previous digital downloads only. RGT85 here on KZbin got a great review video about Sonic Mania Plus for Switch. Watch it! :) I'm aware of scratches on discs that may result in useless movies or games. But look at Wii's eShop - Nintendo took it down. And look at the app stores for iPhone and Android. You cannot re-sell a DRM protected digital download. I'm glad you made this video ⭐️

I probably read your comment too fast or so. Now when I read it again I see the part of physical re-releases. Yeah I can understand that. When you always want the physical release and you buy the digital only because that's the only option and you don't expect a physical release. And then - boom - they announce a physical copy. It's not that often but a few times like I mentioned in my previous comment. I'm a bit disappointed about Mega Man and Mega Man X for Switch. The Legacy Collections. Game 1-6 physical and 7-10 as download codes BUT you need a US Switch Account so if you live in Europe that's gonna give you a big challenge to use that code. And Mega Man X where 1-4 is physical and 5-8 is a download code (also US only). But I was most interested in Mega Man 1-6 (the NES releases) anyway. So not the end of the world that I will miss 7-10. But I wish they could have those games on a physical release too. I was also aware about this before I bought the games. But for me it was worth the money for the physical copies. A new point of view for SM64 in 3D All Stars. Enough many ppl complains about "no widescreen remake instead of the 4:3 version". But I appreciate the retro style! And I would ask the ppl that complain about 3D All Stars: did you guys ever complained about NES Mini and SNES Mini that NO game was remaked to widescreen? :) So many ppl want everything and wanna pay nothing for it. 3D All-Stars is a very good compromise with retro feeling and good upscaled graphics. SM64 is THE game that set the standard for 3D games. Iconic! That's why I love that they kept it 4:3. Nintendo did ALL three milestones for games in the video game history: 1985 - SMB1 = the standard for 2D sidescrolling games 1986 - Zelda 1 = the standard for 2D top view games 1996 - SM64 = the standard for 3D games I'm really impressed! And 3D All-Stars.. it's 3D games that are 24, 18 and 13 years old. And everybody STILL wanna have and play these games. Just amazing!! Compare this with older Tomb Raider games :-) And soon they will release Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. And 3D World - physical. I never had Wii U and therefore not that game. But woooow what a game! For a LONG time I considered buying a Wii U only for that game. But at the same time I hoped for a Switch port based on Nintendo's recent track-record for porting games from Wii U to Switch: BotW, Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad, Mario Maker, New SMB U, Splatoon and more. Some games are ports, some are upgraded games but feels like ports. I love my physical collection of games and movies - and CDs (and LPs). I've regretted that I've sold or given some copies away. But it's still a great collection. One last thing in this comment: the political landscape in the world may lead to that some service (Netflix for example) will be banned in some country. We saw what happened to some chinese apps in India - almost 60 apps banned. TikTik and WeChat was most famous of those. So physical copies is a good protection. It's not a 100% perfect protection cuz anything can happen but you got the control/power of the collection - instead of the politicians and the big companies. Maybe you can make a video about physical re-releases? We know about Cadence or Hyrule and Sonic Mania (Plus). What more do we have? Maybe you can find more examples. Both movies and games. Another interesting thing is "physical copy for a download code". If the box art is great, then it might be worth it for the artwork. So that's a mixed physical/digital copy. As you can guess based on my long comments - this is really something I love: physical copies :)

Like you, I also prefer physical media. I love the ownership and many other reasons that you gave. I do have Netflix, Prime, and Hulu and watch them plenty because i can't buy everything, but if I like something I go get it. Also like you, if it's something I no longer want or need I get it someone else's hands. However, even giving physical media away is getting to be tough because the convenience of streaming has hooked people. True story, I'm the subscriber whom you met at Pauper's Books. If you remember, the store wasn't able to take a good deal of what I had and I offered them to another customer who took a couple, but I still left the store with a healthy amount. What you don't know is that when I left the store I visited my sister's house for a get together and offered them up for whoever wanted them. No one took me up because they would rather just find it streaming somewhere. I didn't even bother with the arguments for discs as it would have fallen on deaf ears. I wound up selling them to a pawn shop, so all is not lost. Keep fighting the good fight.

What's up, man?! You make good points. It seems the ultimate fate of a lot of these DVDs and blu-rays are the pawn or thrift shops, where people essentially give them away. A lot of the shops in my area pay .10-.25 per DVD. This is where people like me swoop in and give some of these movies a home, lol. Granted, the majority of the stuff I see is the same old shit, but I still, always, find something. Once pawn shops stop taking them, then we're in trouble. Thanks for dropping in, my friend!

Couldn't agree More! I use streaming services but love my DVD and Blu Ray collection. I like indie horror film's especially and you would never get half of them on streaming. Plus I like the option of my own library of movies to watch whenever I want.

I happen to agree with you because one of the issues with streaming services is that they keep disappearing and some of these shows that people still want to watch there is one option I think you may want to try since you happen to have streaming and all that try getting one of those super boxes from android and they have every single movie possible and TV show and everything live whenever you want to I tried it for an hour and a half or so and it was OK except they had the whole thing disappear on me on the apps on the box disappeared so you have to be very careful but that’s your next option if you want to go that route otherwise I happen to like everything you say about this I mean I have his large collection as you do but I have one that I have at the lake and I do the same thing I tend to have DVDs I get rid of and I’ll get a new one

I never use Netflix unless I'm at family or friends houses who have Netflix. I always buy movies on blu ray and DVD, owning a library of all these movies that I enjoy.. they all mean something to me even if I think the film is crap and I only own it because it was cheap, I just love to hold a piece of cinema history in my hand and ALWAYS! being able to watch these movies that I love no matter if I have internet access or not is a beautiful thing. I don't just buy any old movie I come across though, they have to be things that I actually have at least some interest in, and that's usually horror movies, 90% of my collection is horror, the rest being si-fi and monster movies. I agree with you with the "world" thing, it's truly special to experience all of these different works of art, especially if it's on blu ray and I get to really look into those worlds and be even more immersed. Being able to hold them in my hands, look at the art and place them on the shelf in their rightful places is just a very enjoyable thing to me.

To me physical media is the only way of watching movies. I don't use streaming at all. Of all the movies in my collection only a few are available on Netflix. Even many of the big blockbusters are not even on Netflix. Why should I be paying for a service like Netflix if I still have to buy most of my movies on physical media? Even for those of the movies that actually are on Netflix it's a question how long they'll still be there. Maybe I can watch it once and when I want to watch it a second time it's no longer there and I still have to buy a physical copy. Even if it's still there the second time I want to watch it, it's a question if it's still the same movie that I watched the first time. Movies do get edited, even many years after its initial release. Just take a look at the many changes that have been made to the Star Wars movies over the years. Another one is E.T. where they replaced the pistols with walky-talkies. Look at the many changes Disney made to their movies when they released them on Disney+. When buying physical media I can use a website like Movie Censorship to see which version I have to buy to be able to see the unaltered version. Maybe I should buy the very first Blu-ray release on eBay, instead of the newest release they're currently selling in shops. Maybe it's even a foreign release. For instance, the Japanese DVD release of Kill Bill is different from all other releases of the movie and contains more gore than the version released in other countries. Once I've found the best version to buy and adding it to my collection no one can ever edit it. Besides all of this, I just like collecting and displaying my collection. It makes me happy to just see shelves full of movies in my living room. I can immediately get a good overview of all of the movie I own. Just seeing them and taking out the movie I want to watch is part of enjoying movies. What's the joy of selecting a movie with your remote, watching it and after that it's all done? It's like the difference between visiting a prostitute and having a girlfriend. Yes, in both cases you're having sex, but it's not the same feeling. Visiting a prostitute is just having plain sex and when you're finished that's it and if later on you want to visit her again it's a question if she's still available. Maybe she's quit, as most of them won't do that kind of job for their entire lives. When you've got a girlfriend you can have sex with her she'll make it feel special and you can just look at her everyday. You can take her in your arms, turn her around and have a close look from all sides whenever you want to. In the same way having a collection is just so much more special than streaming.

All solid points. Disney is doing some sketchy shit with some of the stuff on Disney Plus, like deleting dialogue scenes in The Phantom Menace they deem unimportant or offensive. Fuck that. Big companies changing art to suit their beliefs is a breach of the freedom of speech, and it's gross. This is another point for physical media, so good on you for pointing that out. And, yes: don't out collections look beautiful displayed? I think so. And, I will say: an interesting analogy you've drawn. I ain't touching it, haha! Well said Mike! I think it’s even more important now to hold on to your physical media as the studios are gearing up in the streaming wars. Disney has NO interest in releasing What about Bob, Stakeout, those Hollywood pictures releases on bluray. Disney plus is just proof of that. Fox back catalogue titles forget it, they will force you to hulu just to see them. And it will get worse, so it’s imperative we support the boutique labels that still care about licensing films from the studios for the collectors like us! Most of my collecting started years ago with the kung fu movies on VHS, and the cool movies I saw cable back in the day. I am great full 88films is releasing blurays of some of Shaw Brothers. Since Celestial pictures has no desire to do it themselves. They prefer to stream them ala prime and netflix have a healthy dose of SB films now.

"The Streaming Wars" is real. I totally agree--we should continue to support Scream, Arrow, Vinegar, etc., which is easy to do since their selections are vast and unique. I'm with you on 88Films. If I'm not mistaken, they also released a nice American Ninja set overseas, which I own. It's great they're releasing a lot of the old Shaw Bros. stuff--I just wish I had the money to buy them! That's a shame to hear Celestial has no interest in physical anymore. They always put out solid releases. Thanks for watching, man!

With the Nintendo Switch, I have a very different outlook, but that's because I view it as a collector's system. So many great indie titles are being released physically, and as a collector, I can't help, myself.
