What is one memory with your parents that you will never forget?
@uneekanne
@uneekanne 2 ай бұрын
@@TheBoringChannelLawnCare how they used to hold hands when driving down the road together. On sundays they would want to go for a drive with them. We’d go to Branson. There I’d be in the back seat smiling thinking 50+ years of marriage still holding hands. The next I will never forget when I told dad she was about to go there he was by her side boo hooing because she had always been his best friend for many many years even though she wasn’t mom anymore he took the best care of her he could. Now she was gone he fell apart and was never the same again.

Painting my dad's house and relaying carpet tiles in his house as he couldn't do it. Got his house fixed up, and unfortunately he passed away Oct. 5, 2017 in Bartlesville, OK. Hardest thing was letting it go after he passed. Still missing him today. Kevin, enjoy all the time you have with your mother and father as they will not be around forever. Parents are here to make memories for their children so they can remember them when they're gone.

One of my best memories with both my mom & dad also included my grandparents. My mom, dad & myself has just moved into a new place. My grandpa had been in the Army & was a veteran. My dad was an MP in the Marines. As men will do sometimes they apparently decided to see who could be quieter while doing “recon”! I had been put to bed hours before & probably a couple beers ago. My grandma had went to bed early as was her custom to be up at the crack of dawn the next day. My mom had been enlisted to work the Polaroid camera. I was awakened by my grandma screaming. I ran down the hall and didn’t know what it was but saw a bright flash (mom taking a picture). Then a lot of choice words from a woman I rarely heard say a curse word. I was told to go back to bed that everything was ok just daddy & grandpa being silly. I woke up the next day to everyone around the table drinking coffee & laughing. They were passing around two Polaroids laughing. My mom had taken the picture as grandma was rising up to scream while dad & gramps each dressed in nothing but shower caps, boxers & a bra. They each also had a bottle of Talcum powder. Grandma got the worst of it. The next picture was of dad on one side, grandpa on the other & grandma in the bed covered in powder. They were standing in the strong man pose on either side & grandma sitting on bed mouth open probably cussing. I’m not exaggerating they were all covered in powder. Two huge bottles full but now empty. It was the biggest mess to clean up but one heck of a funny memory. Grandpa is the only one still with us but there are days he doesn’t know who anyone is. He was diagnosed with dementia not long after a terrible accident that took my moms life in 2006. My step dad (mom remarried yrs later) passed away a cpl yrs later & grandma soon after. My wish is that you have as many years with your mom as we’ve had with my grandpa. We were worried the most about him after the terrible accident. May God give you those 20 yrs more as we’ve had with my grandpa. Make time to create those lasting memories. Remember that it’s sometimes the simple things that last the longest. Like our Sunday dinners with grandpa at the grill, grandma in the kitchen & the kids setting the table. After dinner was time for that homemade IceCream and a game of cards.

@@TheBoringChannelLawnCare I think lazy Sunday mornings listening and singing to music. But I have to say the most frustrating thing about dementia is that it’s confusing to them if you bring up old / best memories as they don’t remember so that makes it more challenging as they become sicker. 😞. All the best!

I am the caregiver for my mother who has multiple health issues and dementia on top of it all . She is 88 years old and it is not easy for her (or me) but 'love' is key to their longevity and good care . My mom and i have morning prayer together and we read a chapter from the bible every morning (we never miss) and it sets the tone for the entire day . When my mother passes i will sleep good , i will be strong because i know that i am doing everything within my power and the strengthening aid of God's holy spirit in order to care for her spiritually and physically 🙏

So sorry 😢 Thats a tough spot for sure. Its these little-big lessons we're here to learn things through. I imagine you think first, "that person may be going thru something that isn't obvious to the rest of the world..." Or something like that. Our parents, if they did their job right, are our greatest Teachers. One way or another God uses them to make us better than we'd be if they weren't our spec parents. I'm not saying that's all they taught you at all, but it is a stand out thing that some people never catch on to. That a sad lesson or example, but take the good from it, cherish it and let it make you the best soul you can be on this cra cra earth. You thought I was going to say crap crap earth didn't you? Lol, I almost did. I hope you're doing ok. 🕊️

Hi Kevin, I’m so sorry to hear about your precious Mother. As a hospice nurse of 25 years, I have done a lot of teaching about dementia and care for patients and their families. You are truly doing the best thing moving her early in the illness, moves tend to increase the decline of health past a certain period. Also, remember to be patient and sometimes you just have to agree with the person because reality orientation is not always helpful. Example: who put those clothes on my bed? Now you know she did, try telling her once “I thought you did” if she says “no I didn’t” you just go with it, and tell her you’ll talk to the manager and it won’t happen again. The person isn’t caused more anxiety or agitation and you’re not the bad guy for correcting her. Please feel free to reach out when you get to Florida, I’m the one that has a place for yall in central Florida. 5 acres, you can park RV and use the empty 4 bedroom house if you want to stretch out! My prayers go out to you all for wellness, safety and happiness.

Her and her husband had to move from Louisiana to Iowa and is receiving treatment at university of Iowa hospital. She made a complete lifestyle change and with their guidance and treatments is stable and thankful for everyday! May the Lord guide and protect your mother and her doctors! There is no cure, but not all is hopeless!

Anyway she had to go to a nursing home after, because I couldn't lift her to transfer to wheelchair, bed, etc. As I still had tubes and very weak. Anyway just before I was going to bring her back home, some one from the nursing staff gave her the flu or covid, she passed alone with no family.

I took care of my mom when we realised she was having problems with simple things. A Pediatrician actually took her as a patient..dementia is a much kinder ailment than Alzheimers. I don't remember how long I cared for her at her home daily while my kids were growing up. Staying close was the best thing for both of us. As many years went by I had a heartbreaking realization ; my mom had a boo boo that I couldn't fix. Her Dr. Helped point me in the right direction for Day care with folks her age. She would shoot hoops until in her late 60s. Eventually we had to put her in a nursing home which God selected the morning she was to be transferred.much closer than the 60 miles away the previous day. She lived to be 92. Happy and smiling loving the nursing staff until the twinkle went out of her smiling eyes. I will cherish the time I spent with her and the did too. 2 decades of laughs and challenges were so worth it. GOD WILL HELP YOU ALL GET THE BEST FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES..YOUR MEMORIES WILL INCREASE ..Help is available if you need direction. I wish your whole family the very best on this new adventure. Love and patience and of course laughter will get you through..

My mom was diagnosed almost 4 years ago. She kept working for two years. She sold her house in Portland OR and moved closer to me and her siblings. Almost 4 years now and she still drives, hangs out with her sisters, plays music and has the great grand daughter come and spend the night. Next month she is driving to the Oregon coast to meet with friends for a week at the beach. She keeps notes on her phone and on a calendar at home, has her bills on auto pay and uses gps.

Is she driving alone? If not, get someone to go with her! PLEASE!! Still driving today doesn't mean that won't be gone in an absolutely instant. TRUST ME! So was my mom. And then, one day, miles from home, when she drove just fine to her destination, but when she left to go back home, she almost took someone else's life and her own. They are BOTH VERY lucky to have survived. Please understand that she really could be driving just fine one second and the next not. That's how this disease works. Also understand that they can and WILL "showtime" so if you test her skills by riding with her while she's driving, by the NATURE OF THIS DISEASE, she will do just fine. And then when no one is with her, she's making mistakes. And she will be completely unaware that she made them. Please recognize when she complains about being in traffic and someone honked at her so what a jerk....No, it was her. or they did something that made her have to do something to avoid an accident, PLEASE recognize that it was HER, not them. PLEASE. I'm begging you. Please don't let her drive alone. Please! Keeping notes on her phone means nothing. She will tell you has them, show them to you, use them frequently, and then, other times, she has no idea she has them. And you are completely unaware that for a moment, an hour, two days, she was completely unaware that she had those notes because she's completely unaware that she was unaware. And if those notes are to inform others of who to contact in an emergency, the goal is to PREVENT that emergency in the first place. PROACTIVE, not REACTIVE.

The house looked so pretty at night with all the lights!!! I hope Dawn is still doing well. My brother, Craig, who was diagnosed with dementia in 2022, is doing ok. Last year, he fell and broke his hip, he healed just fine from that. But now he needs help walking. He has a walker. He rarely talks. The last time I went to visit him, he said a couple of words, and it was during a game that his daughter played with him. She sings a familiar song and then stops towards the end. And he has to finish the song. "Take me out to the _____ _____." He said "ball game. " It was so wonderful to hear the sound of his voice!!! We had a big 75th birthday party for him in March!!! I bought him some wooden exercise tools to help him with hand movements. He does quite well with them. Secret word: Banana!

My gosh how beautiful! It turned out amazing! I wouldn’t want to leave. 😢if there’s one advice I can give for those who have their parents, and that is to Go and help do improvements for them while they are healthy, regardless if they say no a million times. Simple things like how they painted the chicken coop area makes a world of difference, and brings a breath of fresh air to them. It will help them feel a sigh of relief in a time where they look around and feel overwhelmed by the aging of the property and all the property entails. Mom loved watching her birds. So us kids bought her a huge fountain ⛲️, and designed an area for it where she could sit on her porch swing and enjoy them. That was years before she passed away. We never took the time to go out to the fountain and inspect it from time to time, and after she passed awry, and we were trying to freshen the place up for dad, we noticed it was crumbling beyond repair. Something she loved so much couldn’t even hold water anymore. It broke our hearts. I’m saying this stuff because I’ve been through it all. We all wish we would have taken the time to do the things to freshen things up when they were healthy enough to enjoy it. I’m praying for your mom and family. ❤ Be Gentle and understanding as your mom fights this battle. Even if it comes to having to repeat yourself over and over. Remember it’s not her fault. ❤

I just lost my mom to dementia on April 19th. It began 3 years and 8 months before she passed. The last 8 months were the hardest watching her physically and mentally fading away. My prayers go out to your Mom and your family. I hope you will be able to make some very lasting and special memories with her while they are living with you. God bless and keep each of you during this journey

The property looks fantastic. My mother developed Alzheimer’s in her early seventies and we lost her before she turned seventy nine. My dad developed Dementia in his early nineties, so I had many more years with him. Stepping up to support our parents, who have always been there for us, is a privilege. It’s definitely not easy, but I’m so glad I could be there for both of them when they needed me.

My Mom died of dementia and my Dad, who was so healthy, died 4 months later of a pulmonary embolism. I don't know which was worse, the slowness of dementia or the suddenness of Daddy's death. We had a family farm and Dad had helped us all build our houses and barns. Our husband's learned under him. We had a wonderful life on the farm as the kids grew up. We all worked together and lived together. I have nothing to regret and tons of memories of our togetherness. For your parents this is a humbling experience and very hard to face their mortality and future. Facing their age, this diagnosis and a big move is overwhelming for them. You've done the right thing and it will be paid back to you in many ways. The memories and love. But also you are teaching your children that taking care of the elderly is what you do in your family. Then, when it's your turn, your children will do for you what you did for your parents because it's what you taught them. You are teaching them about generosity of heart and spirit. You are teaching them it's not easy but it's what you do for family. Someone is watching and your lessons won't go unseen. God bless you all. I know how hard it's going to be but it's do-able. Many others are going through it as well. The only way we made it was with God. I didn't think I would be able to survive their death as I loved them so much but I have. It's taught me that we can get through worst case scenarios with the help of God.

I’m 24/7 with my mom. She broke her right hip after a fall in June, then broke her left hip after a fall at the rehabilitation center (it was the 2nd fall at this rehab). She was diagnosed in 2019 and now is recovering at home. She babbles a lot but I respond. I call this the longest goodbye. You have to mourn the person they were, and eventually the new person they’ve become. Stay strong!

OMG!!! That home is stunningly beautiful. Credit to all of you for making it what we all would want for our parents. I am from the UK but have lived in Thailand for over 10 years. My father passed away from Alzheimers within two years of being diagnosed. He passed away in the February and my Mum died of a broken heart in the September. I miss them every day but I thank them for providing me with the life I have here in my retirement. Make full use of every day you have together. I love the channel even though all I have to take care of in my garden is a 6 foot high hedge around my property and a strip of grass 20 foot by 6 foot which is for my dogs. Brilliant work guys and gals!!!

I'm very saddened to hear of your mother's illness, and I will continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers as I have since I first started watching your channels several years ago. It's been a pleasure seeing you grow and prosper, and I can't imagine how tough this blow is for the entire family. The work you did here is a true labor of love, and it shows. That's the kind of place I wanted 30 years ago, but losing everything in a divorce ruined everything. Now, I'm too old and broken- not to mention too broke. I'm sure someone who will love it just as much will snap it up, in spite of the economy.
