That riverdance candy stomp story brought me back to the army, basic training 97, this dude was sellin candy out his locker for the longest time, feelin himself. What he didn’t realize was that the store he was buying his candy from was owned by the wife of our leading drill sergeant. Shit was clearly a setup. One morning they got the entire company together, every platoon, like 200 people or somethin and gathered us all around while our drill sgt stood in the middle and gave this long ass speech about honor. Then he pulled out this big ass bag of skittles, and with a blinding rage only a 5 foot 5 white man is capable of, dude ripped open this bag of skittles and it was like slowwww motion, just like a fuckin fountain of color flies up and out and all over the ground, and he’s screamin and there was something about like the happiness of skittles and candy mixed with the pure anger of this little man? It took damn near everything for us not to bust out laughin. Homeboy got DISHONORABLY DISCHARGED.. for Skittles. Imagine tasting that rainbow.

As I watch this special back, it becomes very evident to me that Patrice O'Neal should have been a writer on The Simpsons, no joke! His wit, relatability, dark humour and cleverness would have been perfect on that show, especially as the series started to go down the drain. Patrice is the perfect mind for The Simpsons, especially in this PC ultra-sensitive era. But, then again, Fox might have wanted to water him down, for fear of controversy and "hurting people's feelings" 🙄

I get that you pause a ton for everything you laugh at, but i would suggest watching it through the first thing without stopping - then doing a post watch breakdown with pauses. People don't seem to realize how much art is woven into an act. Flow, timing, and build-up are all part of a carefully structured act that has been tweaked over many months (or even years) on the road by the time it comes to filming a special. I mean ... do you. But you're robbing yourselves of the crescendo laugh where the most dopamine is released, the way the artist meant for it to be consumed.
