I love how so many people take what is nothing more than speculation, or what they want everyone tobelieve and they present it as a fact.

The author (Tyson) claims that Carolyn Bryant confessed to him in 2008 that she had lied in her trial testimony. However, Tyson shows no proof that she did! He supposedly recorded both interviews with Carolyn yet her "confession" isn't found in either of them. Tyson later claimed that he was "setting up his tape recorder" which fails to explain why he simply didn't have her repeat her statement. LOL Carolyn's daughter-in-law (Marsha Bryant) was the person who had contacted Tyson in the first place. She stated that she was there for both interviews and never heard her mother-in-law recant! Tyson did keep written notes of his interview. Not sure why since he tape-recorded it. I'm not 100% clear as to this element, but supposedly his ORIGINAL notes as turned in to Duke University archive did not include a written record of Carolyn's confession, but one appeared later. I've seen it. It's a page of lined paper with notes stating that Carolyn said this and that. But there is no way to authenticate the paper. This was earth-shaking. Why, for example, didn't he write a written statement and have Carolyn sign it? Why didn't he take his own notes and have them notarized to at least establish the "when and where." Tyson also claims that he was shown defense notes showing what she told defense lawyers before the trial. But, again, there's no proof of where the notes he was shown came from. There's no proof of when in the interview process with her husband's attorney she stated what. The point Tyson fails to address is what most Emmett Till apologists miss: Why did Carolyn Bryant angrily run out of her store to grab a pistol? To use modern terminology . . . . how badly did Emmett Till "sexually harass" a 21-year old white lady to where she felt she needed a pistol to defend herself? And don't forget that when Bryant and Milam confronted Emmett Till in his bedroom, they asked him "Are you the boy who was running his mouth?" and Till replied "Yeah." Final point: If you look at the background of Tyson, you find he's a shill for several black social activist organization INCLUDING BLACK LIVES MATTER. I think he's just your typical self-hating white man who questions his own maasculinity and seeks to overcome his inadequacies by being a pro-black Social Justice Warrior. I don't believe Carolyn Bryant ever changed her story. I think Tyson plugged this in there to sell his book. Just my opinion. Study it yourself and see what you decide.

Whether she recanted or not, isn't really important at this point. The fact is that several witnesses at Bryant's store the day of the incident deny that Emmett ever touched her, or asked for a date, or said or did anything that Carolyn said he did. Everyone admits that Emmett DID whistle at her, but nothing else. Also, no one definitively said she was going out to her car to get a gun. For starters, the Bryants didn't own a car! Secondly, if she felt threatened by Emmett, her sister in law Juanita Miliam was in the back of the store, she could have called her if she felt uncomfortable with any of the youngsters in the store that evening. The fact is that a simple whistle, though inappropriate in 1955 under Jim Crow laws of the south, was blown way out of proportion and lead a 14 year old kid to be brutally murdered by racist monsters!!!

Carol already stated she never recanted her testimony or admitting to lying about what happened, but she did for sure say Emmitt did not deserve to die over what happened, what happened in the store is a matter of “who knows? Only 2 people and they’re not with us anymore” but Emmitt did in fact as told by everyone who was there whistle at her, rather if it was a wolf whistle or what is speculation, regardless of what happened what Emmitt said or did he didn’t deserve to die at 14 over it so nobody needs this long text,

Nope. Just Nope. She lied. And she knew that her lies would result in the murder of a boy. Yes social structures in 1950's Mississippi were to blame and her husband committed the actual murder but she is guilty, too. She has lived a long life never serving time for what she did. I refuse to feel sorry for her.

@@TheoriginalCC absolutely not! You're correct (and you're mistaken). He straight up says that she lied. She admits that she lied or embellished the truth, if you prefer. It's a concrete fact that her actions resulted in the brutal death of a teenage boy. What the question is do we excuse her actions based on the environment she grew up in. Do we excuse the actions of Adolf Hitler? His followers? The policemen who murdered George Floyd? Do we excuse all bad behavior that harms others because they grew up in "that environment"? The decision to forgive is a personal one. She doesn't ask for or need my forgiveness. But I don't excuse her choice. In my personal opinion which is not based on my expertise or lack thereof, she's a total b***h.

No it’s not simple. It’s the fact that tho at the time racism and hate was at a high in the south, the woman single handedly had chances to possibly keep the boy alive and or give the boy justice. Even if she would’ve admitted to it all and they still walked free she would’ve done her part. She could’ve said that wasn’t the boy, or better yet not been so evil at a 14 y/o telling her she’s beautiful. I’d hate to know what would’ve happened if he would’ve told her she’s hideous!

So if I walk into a store and sexually assault a black woman, then she tells her boyfriend who finds me and murders me, did the black woman cause my death? Is it HER fault that she reported an assault? Should the black woman just shut up and take it to make sure I'm not harmed? That's what you said in your comment.

He did NOT get it on tape, and he made up multiple stories about why the tapes he turned over to investigators had no mention of her recanting her story. He also claimed that the recanting interview happened before email records show he ever met Carolyn Bryant. So he supposedly taped her before he ever met her. His Wiki page lists his lies, but most people won't bother to check it.

And Melvin Louis Campbell was a brother-in-law. _________________________________ "She confessed to the killing of Emmet" She to lying at the trial, one month after Emmett was lynched. It was Maurice Wright who lied to Roy Bryant about Emmett. And, enraged, Roy gathered his lynch mob. ________________________ In your zeal to crucify Carolyn Bryant you have *FOGIVEN and FORGOTTEN* the very men who murdered Emmett Till.
