I'm a designer of 20+ years. Worked on everything from Redbull and Reebok to Kevin Hart and Cardie B. This dude has nailed it. I have felt how broken the agency style model is for a long time but didn't think this is possible. He's really nailed the niche with the tech startups who need quick turnaround and want to go to market asap. I'll be using some tips here to refine my business model. Cause the lengths I go to to pull down 20-25k/month is excessive most the time.

@@ryangreen45 It's simple math. It's cheaper for companies to hire this guy (with a subscription they can temporarily post-pone when they've run out of work) then to hire a fulltime designer. As long as the delivery of the requests is fast enough it's simply a good offer.

Just wanna say I appreciate you asking good clarification questions. Too many times hosts of podcasts or interviews ask a question, it gets a vague answer, and they move on. But you dig in, you ask for more detail on each step, ask for their process, etc. All questions the listener is wishing would be asked but usually never is. I don't normally comment on stuff on KZbin or use the like button but this deserved it big time.

Wow, assumption-based design (ABD) is such a powerful concept! If we generalize, we could use this concept in other situations. For example, a content marketer could review a website and write a proposal for a Content Marketing campaign or system based on assumptions derived from his analysis of the website. He then sends the proposal (or better yet, the actual Content Marketing Plan) to the prospect who owns the website. Whether or not the Content Marketing Plan suits the needs of the prospect, he will probably be impressed by how proactive and committed to his craft the content marketer is. If the prospects doesn't need or want content marketing, fine. But if there's a need, I doubt that he would call on other content marketer since THIS ONE has clearly proven how passionate, committed and customer-centric he is! Thanks Brett for the idea!

luv luv that he touched on working in those spaces where you just can't use those work samples to propel yourself forward. And creating samples just to have a nicer portfolio. I totally relate to that. The mundane work shows ability but not impressive as portfolio pieces. I so can relate fully to that. I struggle with that. I used to create samples of imaginary projects and stopped. but there is so much merit to that.

AWESOME - There's a LOT of really great info in this podcast. THANK YOU BRETT for clarifying his toolset. I think I learned so much about some new tools I didn't even know existed before. The using some that I already knew about in new and interesting ways. Those things are absolute GOLD. AND to hear his model of subscription based, pause/cancel anytime, no contracts is brilliant!! As a guy that came from the business side of things, this will definitely attract clients. BUT one VERY important point that I think newbies need to realize. He said that he had to work extremely hard for long periods of time in his life to acquire the necessary skills ALL BEFORE launching his business. YES he did clarify these points in the pod, which was good to hear and he even said "perhaps I should have made this clear earlier on" which is really good too. SO there was NO misleading info. It's just that newbies or people that are really frustrated in life may think "Oh cool.....I just do what he did and start cashing phat checks." But there was MUCH more time involved in this.

I paid for Brett's course. The majority of it is 5 minute audio recordings of him saying the same things he says in interview videos. There's 6 "video" lessons which are 5 minute Loom recordings. He doesn't show any actual numbers. He doesn't show any actual clients. He doesn't show actual proof that he's doing this with anyone. He also states blatant lies like he still uses the free version of Trello but that's impossible because it only allows 10 members/guests but he says he has 16 clients. So he's lying that he uses the free version or he uses the cheapest $5/month option and invites them as guests which you can have 1 guest per board, but I'm not sure why he doesn't just say that. I'm happy the course was only $100 but it was honestly a waste of money and while Brett is smart to share the idea of his system he falls flat in actually showing any proof that he's doing it. He also hasn't responded to anyone in the course community for over 7 months despite it saying he was active "1 hour ago." There's a number of people in the community who have said they've requested a refund but hasn't gotten a response from Brett about it.

OK, this specific podcast really changed the way I do business. I do not do design but mainly web design, development, marketing, paid ads, etc, for content creators. I found myself having clients and spending endless time on comms admin, gathering info they sent through emails, DMs, WhatsApp, Messenger, you name it. I also created custom service packages for each, which added time for negotiations, contracts, etc. As a one-man band, I could not afford to lose this time. So this video inspired me to offer my services as a product, and the time back I got to actually work on client work and business development is mad. Thanks, both of you, for a fantastic podcast!

Don't know if this is your intention or not but Brett you're got a good talent for podcasting (asking good questions, not interrupting guests, pushing guests to answer unclear / vague questions and replies) so you should definitely take in more guests and push this podcast, I feel like you could really be huge in this space, but you might also have tons of other stuff on your table. How about taking in Web3 founders / co-founders and hear their thoughts? Mainly NFT projects because I think most people follow you because of NFTs. Founder of RFTKT, BAYC, Moonbirds, 9Gag etc etc. Or talk to Web2 brands who has entered the space but failed e.g McClaren or interview Web2 companies who WANTS to enter the space but has no idea how.

Hey Brett, Wondering if you can cover things about business structure like LLC, sole proprietor, freelance-model, accounting/finance, etc. Do these people hire accountants? Who does the taxes? Those sorts of things.

Great video and operating model! Solo, Intake, Agile, Kanban, Iterative, Status! As a business and IT consultant I’ve have been looking for that monthly subscription model to offer products and services and watching this just solidified the ideas. Thank you! By the way, I love Midjourney and ChatGPT 😊

Stoked to hear how in depth you guys got. I’m based in Scottsdale and currently traveling the world (Milan, Singapore, Shanghai, Romania, NYC, LA) teaching an Ai workflow for packaging designers. Now is the time to break out of the 9-5 grind!!

Hey there, I would love to know what kind of role/position you have that lets you travel this way. Or is this your own business?

@@khazana24 Anyone can travel like this if you build a personal brand and help to educate everyone in your industry. Most people keep what they learn secret because they feel they will be able to get ahead, the true secret is that by sharing what you know people will want to learn from you and will quickly spread the word about what you do. Try it!

@@FaridShahidinejad That's awesome! Are you interested in developing packaging designs with Ai? I have a few brands that are looking for Ai creators that have asked if I knew anyone interested.

So you're teaching AI workflow to people within your industry? Or did you choose that industry because you have experience in design?

You are so inspiring...I've been 3 weeks and I'm trying to share my journey of paying off $124k of debt in just 16 months back in 2020 and I have remained focused towards retirement goal and increased rental property and maintain modest lifestyle financially and became a minimalist... 71 subscribers and 55 video..mostly shorts, but I really just can't figure this thing out because I want to share that journey to hope others could use to help them❤❤❤
