This makes the significance of Frodo’s willingness to give the Ring to both Galadriel and Aragon even more profound. In the books and the movies, they both were surprised by this action. Frodo was still the master of the Ring each time. It was not until later in the story that the Ring began to master him.

One moment that I really appreciate from the films is when Frodo is redressing in the Tower of Cirith Ungol you see the bruising and wear the Ring is having on Frodo. When Frodo speaks of the burden of the Ring it's not just a mental strain but very real.

The only thing they kind of stuffed up with this is that none of the like happened to bilbo. He didn't keep it with a chain around the neck but still...you'd think something physical and similar would have happened.

How sentient was the ring? I’d like to think it was fully ‘aware’ based on how it escaped Isildur. But how aware I cannot nail down. Was the ring actively pursuing a return to Sauron? Or was it just looking for the best suitable host to manipulate. Was the ring behaving reactively like a fish? Or was it trying to return to master when it slipped off into the river. I want to know if that move was calculated or not. I can’t help but think the Ring is on Isildur’s hand thinking “man this guy is bunk. I’ve got to find a better host”. Same with Gollum. The Ring be like, “Here i am. Stranded in the position if this halfling who’s resisting me. Ope, now he’s drug us into the mountains, damn it. Ooo wait I hear a new voice. Better slip outta this pocket real quick. Anything is better than this guy”.

It's a force of nature distilled into an object. How sentient are the tides? How sentient is the concept of domination-- even the domination over evil is still in principle a dark conquest. Evil must ultimately destroy itself, perhaps through providence.
@c.antoniojohnson7114
@c.antoniojohnson7114 8 ай бұрын
The Ring is sentient, probably on the level of a horse. Don't quote me on this. The Ring did try to escape Bilbo, that's why he kept it on a chain knowing it would change size,it really wanted to go with Boromir. That's why he was ensnared by the Ring almost instantly.

A very good episode. Thank you. As the ring is essentialy the captured force/soul of Sauron I do believe that Gandalf would have been exposed with magnified sides in his personality with dictatorship, self obsession etc. He says itself when he rejects the ring offering from Frodo, that his intention would be good, but the results would be devistating and evil. Ps Nice of you to have the part on Mental help.

Frodo's "failure" was, IMHO, set the first (and only) time he intentionally, if understandably, used the Ring to dominate another. This happened when Gollum first attacked Frodo and Sam at Mount Doom mere minutes before the Ring's destruction, when Frodo used it to demand that Gollum never touch him again, under pain of being cast into the fires of doom. That was when the Ring won its long battle with Frodo's heroic resistance to its allure. It was only a temporary victory for that glittering, golden little circle of evil, as it joined Gollum in the fire shortly afterward...

Every being has a certain tendency due to the nature of creation and a weakness within this tendency. This is the point where the being can be tempted, that is, its weak point. The One Ring exploits this weakness in beings and corrupts them with power. Gandalf's weakness is to do good, and if he tries to get the power he needs to do this through the One Ring, the One Ring will corrupt Gandalf with power and what he thinks he is doing good will actually evolve into evil. Because Gandalf is aware of this, he rejects the One Ring. In Tolkien's mythology, all actions carried out by force and oppression methods other than free will tend towards evil (Melkor's will). For this reason, Gandalf does not take the One Ring from Bilbo by force, but prefers him to leave it of his own free will. In this incident, it is again seen that Gandalf was aware of this phenomenon and acted with foresight. Bilbo's giving up the One Ring is an event that occurs with Bilbo's free will. Until that moment, the One Ring had chosen and left its bearers. Therefore, Bilbo's abandonment of the One Ring can also be interpreted as an event that took place outside the will of the One Ring. In accordance with the principle I defined above in Tolkien mythology (the principle that actions that occur without free will lead to bad consequences for that being), Bilbo's giving up the One Ring led to a bad end for the One Ring, resulting in its destruction. Of course, this is a good result for the good side. (This is a theory)
