She dances with such freedom that it looks as if she dictates the movements and not the other way around, unlike most ballerinas. Her movements are fast and light. She might be petite but she dances big and covers more space than ballerinas taller than her.

What a great collection! Travelling forward on the diagonal on a raked stage? Very very tricky. I love the leaps too. They look as though they need to be somewhere less restricting than a stage.

She defies physics. She spins so quickly that she does not even get her non-turning leg fully extended to get the full help of the force from whipping that leg in to help you turn and she still manages to get multiple completely controlled turns. Amazing!

Brooke DeLong you could argue that that’s not a good thing. The shapes you make are as important as the reasons for doing them. She’s sacrificing full extension for speed.

5 years ago I was hopeless at doing fouettés even though I had been dancing for 2 years already. I just finished doing a sequence of about 10 of these in front of my mirror. It takes a lot of patience but you'll only get better, especially if you work on your spot, quad strength and plié

Intoxifaded That's so true. I never achieved more than 2 perfect fouettes in my life, but i confess i didn't practiced enough. My core strength was crap, and so were my ankles. But what you said about your body finally understanding the movement... That's ballet in its entirety. Only in my 3rd grade did my body finally understand the importance of square shoulders and strong/stable upper back for balance. Ballet is like a foreign language isn't it? Congrats for your 10 fouettes, the turning motion is one of the most wonderful, birdlike sensations we humans can feel

Amazing, their is a shot of her when she very young, she is not dancing, just looking at the camera, then she scrunches up her face, and I think that what makes her so special you can see in her face in that instance, all the attitude, self belief dedication to come what may become an outstanding human being. Natasha, as she says she likes to be called has had a number of unpleasant incidents in her life, this has turned her into a survivor. I think she is a wonderful human being.

It's interesting how it looks like neither of her legs is completely straight during turns although I'm sure they are.. Maybe it's the viewing angle?

Jane Doe I think it's probably because her leg is neutral instead of hyperextended which makes it easier to balance and probably why she turns so well (the same with Gillian Murphy). Hyperextension creates a more beautiful line but is less stable when balancing/turning.

Her legs not being hyperextended could explain it a bit but I think it's mostly because you can turn faster if you don't fully extend your working leg. It takes too much time to whip them all the way out, and bring them back in then whip them out again :D

Всех спортивных гимнастов надо через 5 лет тренировок на фиг забирать в балет! Вращаться они будут превосходно. Правда, не каждая из них превратится в НАТАЛЬЮ ОСИПОВУ. Это - двигательно одаренный человек! Это - дано от природы, и еще дано - свыше!
