When I starting watching bee keeping videos, I looked up why to use smoke, and found it messes with their sense of smell, so if one or more bees get too upset and release the attack message scent, the rest of the bees don't react because they can't smell it and don't get the message.

They gorge themselves on honey when they detect smoke, which makes them lethargic. If there's a fire and they need to leave in a hurry, they want to take as much food as they can. Fire is a bigger threat than a predator, most animals react strongly to smoke.

Mark you were flirting with divorce if you left all that honey mess on the veranda. Hopefully it wasn’t there too many days. Thank you for giving Flow hive a good wrap. So nice to hear for a change. I’m will you I think flow hives are fantastic. I now have 4 and also heaps Lang hives but if a beekeeper only wants a couple of hives they don’t have to spend heaps of money on extracting equipment. Keep up the good work boys

Instead water + sugar to feed them you can try with water + honey. I saw many hives designs and in most of them don't leave any honey for the bees. I have an idea you can use.
