On putting a super on I try to put it on when the box is around 80 percent full . Does that sound about what you go try to go with ?? . Thanks for your video’s.

Isn't it a bit close to winter to put supers on? Or could they fill supers within 7 weeks?
@BESHYSBEES4 жыл бұрын
We can get a winter flow believe it or not, there is mallee trees that flower through autumn and banksia trees also I’m an hour n half from BBM so the flora is the same, they can fill and cap a super in a 2 weeks or so if the flow is good and colony is strong enough

Those are interesting hives, but does it seem that they have too much beespace at the lid and baseboard?
@BESHYSBEES4 жыл бұрын
They should have an inner cover even if it’s only a sheet of canvas or plastic
@Dstick1Spearfishing4 жыл бұрын
Those bees are making lots of extra comb hey, maybe a cover is needed under the lid to encourage them to draw out the comb. Didn't see much pollen in any of those boxes, that might be part of your problem. Thanks for the great video and laughs!

Hey fellas, are you over near the York peninsula by any chance?
@marinusbeimers72934 жыл бұрын
Another informative episode , thanks Mark. Is there any need to clean up the comb which is sitting on top of the frames?.
@BESHYSBEES4 жыл бұрын
Not until you’re going to put supers on, using a inner cover will slow them but they will build in a cavity of more than 10mm

I like your hives better than my home made ones .I'm just getting started though using pellets to make beehives might not last for ever but they are untreated and free and paint the out side box made i did splash out and buy a router though .I even been reusing the nails out of pellets and screws .I want 1000 boxes to be a full timer thats 20000 dollars saved making bottoms as well and some tops .not worried about getting honey at this stage its about hives and healthy ones at that,with feeding id like to double my hives every year
@MarneRiver21394 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark there seems to be a lot of extra space in the hive boxes as you can see that they are building brace comb inside the lids, in between the super and the brood box and also on the bottom of the frames in the brood box. that's a lot of energy that they are using spending their time building that rather that building out the frames you would like them to. is that normal for this type of hive box?? also just wanted to say that we use the BBwear suits and love them they are awesome and I believe they do do embroidery on your suit if you choose to have that done so you could asked them to add something to your next suit. We are second year bee keepers from the UK and LOOOOOOVE watching your videos and thank you so much for still making content that we can watch during this weird time. We hope that you and the family keep safe and sound and that none of you have to experience getting sick. Look after yourselves Hannah & Matt

Yesterday, I couldn't find the new blue queen marking pen I thought I purchased last year. Today, I forgot to take my old blue queen marking pen with me (not that Iactually needed it). Last weekend, I forgot the little plastic feeder caps that go over the funnels to prevent the bees drowning in sugar syrup! Doh!

Thank you! They're the paradise beehives. They come white and you have to paint them. This was a paint tin at the hardware store that was cheap because they messed up the colour match.

My bee suit is a cheap one off eBay, it works good except if you have your face on the mesh they’ll sting you
@sentimentalbloke75864 жыл бұрын
The suit makes you look like a marshmallow man (the michelin man of bees), I dont know how you would ever get anything done in it. It would be like wearing an fashioned diving suite with the lead boots and the brass helmet, lol would love to interview you after a week working in it wit one of the real commercial mobs lol

I'm a softie as well. I was inspecting a group of hives with a crusty bloke who sneered at me in my full suit and gloves. Halfway through we opened up a hive of very cranky girls who went for both of us. I didn't cop a sting, he had to run away with the girls really hammering his eyes and face, especially his eyes. After an hour he looked like he had been bashed severely...............he had. I always wear a suit if I'm going to open a brood box. Supers are OK, brood boxes always a suit.

When I first got mine the man told me if you wear a suit you got to wear a suit all the time if you don't wear one you can go out in your shorts so never did use a suit until this year a couple times and it don't make no difference he was blowing smoke up my butt

You shouldnt be putting undrawn frames with a new hive. Its too hard for them to draw out. Give them stickies
@privatebubba88764 жыл бұрын
I would never buy a package without having drawn comb to give them. They don't come prepared to work like a swarm. I always advise new beekeepers to start with nucs.
@td41904 жыл бұрын
What's up with your boxes. However they're made. Your bees are building brace come on top of your inner cover. Something's messing up your bee spacr
@TrickyTrev013 жыл бұрын
Awesome stuff Mark. Just on your weak hive on the end, what if you moved it to the middle of the hives. I know when you do this with native Australian bees, the weak hive picks up the foragers and makes the hive stronger. The hive usually allows bees in loaded with nectar and pollen and doesn’t cause fighting. Just a thought hopefully it helps you could check out my KZbin channel or Nick Powell’s channel aystraliannativebee.com. ps love watching your videos. Thanks TrickyTrev 👍👍🐝🐝🐝🍯🍯🍯🍯

Please delete if considered not appropriate The TEK Method!!! Single hives, frames are moved around so that the hive increases quickly - I never have empty frames on the outside Left to their own devises, it can take up to 4 times as long - excess bee space is the KILLER in beekeeping The brood super is used in TEK apiaries, solely for rearing brood - no honey or pollen is left as the bees WILL NEVER use it The BEEK is missing out on a minimum of 3,000 bees being reared every 3 weeks Burr comb can be eliminated & better used to increase drawn comb, if a summer mat is placed In my apiaries I transfer double 4 frame Nuces into a 10 frame hive - only 2 extra frames are required & bees cover the total space I generally place extra supers on 4 weeks after upgrading & then another super a further 4 weeks - triple honey hives Check out my Channel HoneyBEE TEK, if further interested

@@TheBushBeeMan African killer bees here. They’re nuts. Only 40 stings and you’re dead. They are insane and we can only work on them at night with a red light.
