বাংলাদেশে প্রতিদিন ১৮ জন নারী মারা যান সার্ভিক্যাল ক্যান্সার বা জরায়ুমুখ ক্যান্সারে। জরাযুমুখ ক্যান্সার প্রতিরোধযোগ্য। একটু সচেতন থাকলে খুব সহজেই জরায়ুমুখ ক্যান্সার প্রতিরোধ করা সম্ভব। এ ক্যান্সার প্রতিরোধে ভ্যাকসিন আমাদের দেশেই পাওয়া যায়। ১৩-১৪ বছর বয়সী কিশোরীদের এ ভ্যাকসিন দিলে সারাজীবন সুরক্ষিত থাকবে। এছাড়া ৩০ বছরের বেশি বয়সী নারীদের একটি সহজ টেস্ট-‘ভায়া টেস্ট’ করিয়ে এ ক্যান্সারের ঝুঁকি আছে কিনা তা নির্নয় করা যায়। নিয়মিত ভায়া টেস্ট করালে ক্যান্সার হবার আগেই তা নির্ণয় করা সম্ভব-এমনকি যদি কারো জরায়ুমুখ ক্যান্সার হয়-প্রাথমিক অবস্থায় কিছু কিছু ক্ষেত্রে চিকিৎসা করলে তা ভালো হয়ে যায়।
