একটা কৌশল উলটে দিল পাশার দান। ফ্রান্সের জাতীয় নির্বাচনের দ্বিতীয় ধাপের ভোটের আগে দুই শতাধিক প্রার্থী নির্বাচনী লড়াই থেকে সরে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন। উদ্দেশ্য কট্টর ডানপন্থী প্রার্থীদের জয় ঠেকানো। তাই একজোট হয়ে তাঁরা প্রার্থিতা প্রত্যাহার করেছিলেন। উগ্র ডানপন্থী দল ন্যাশনাল র্যালির (আরএন) জয় আটকানোর এই প্রচেষ্টায় ব্যাপকভাবে সফলতা এসেছে। একই সঙ্গে নির্বাচনে সবচেয়ে বেশি আসন পাচ্ছে বামপন্থীদের জোট নিউ পপুলার ফ্রন্ট (এনপিই) ।
