In this video we see some buses at the Doncaster Park & Ride, a bus interchange in Doncaster in Melbourne's north-east. Opening in 2002 the interchange serves as a park & ride facility for buses between Doncaster and the Melbourne CBD via the Eastern Freeway. Out of Melbourne's three park & ride stops for buses, Doncaster is the busiest with around 400 car parking spaces and served by nine different bus routes; 207, 280, 282, 284, 205, 303, 309, and Smartbus routes 907 & 908.
Here we see various buses operated by Transdev Melbourne arrive and depart the interchange, including Scania L94UB's, Scania K230UB's, Scania K280UB's, Scania K310UB's, some MAN 16.240's, and Optare Solo's on the 280/282 (Manningham Mover/Loop).
I originally paid the Doncaster Park & Ride a visit back in April 2013, but being December 2021 I decided it was time for a revisit for a couple of reasons:
1. Transdev Melbourne will soon have their operations taken over by Kinetic Group after the latter won the contract to operate Melbourne's Metropolitan Bus Franchise. Kinetic will take over on the 31st January 2022. This video was filmed during the final month or so of Transdev Melbourne's operations.
2. Doncaster Park & Ride in the coming years will soon be completely rebuilt. As part of the North East Link freeway project, a new Doncaster dedicated busway will be constructed between Doncaster Park & Ride and Hoddle Street along the Eastern Freeway. The busway is expected to be completed by 2027 - 2028.
Date:
December 2021.
