TheC64 maxi using mouse and REU with GEOS

You need to get the 1581 disk image so you can put a pile of applications on it. And pump the reu settings up to 16 meg. I think you have to get a third party driver for geos to recognize reu bigger then 2 meg though. Then you get another util that allows you to transfer all your geos system files and drivers etc to the reu and run them for there so there is no disk access apart from loading apps or your own files. Back in the day, I had the c128 with supercpu with 16 meg, ramlink with 16 meg, and an extra 4 meg georam, a cmd hard drive with parallel cable and a postscript printer.....it kicked windows arse. Also had megapatch 3 and wheels 128 versions to boot from.

It’s funny how a c64 with GEOS makes the Mac look less impressive now. I grew up with the C64 then moved onto the Amiga range, today I have PCs for Africa and Macs but there was something special about computers in the 80s, and I’m not sure what it was but modern computers don’t feel the same anymore.

How did you get the C64 Maxi to fill the whole 16:9 screen?? On my television the left and right sides are black.

Go into the computer settings and you will see the option in there. You can also make it look more like a crt if that is your preference. Scan lines, aspect ratio etc…

On the C64 in this video it actually connected via hdmi connector to a tv. While the C64 maxi looks like a vintage 64 it is actually a new machine and comes with an HDMI port in the back. For my original 64 use a cable I bought off EBay that goes from monitor port to the same TV via a scart connector. I’ll try to do a quick video on it.

If you save to one of the save states after everything is loaded all you have to do after is select the disc and recall the save state and you will be fully booted up in a couple of secs... BTW: Graphical environment OPERATING system... GEOS... say ah per rating... GE ahs NOT GE ohs..it's not a oh per rating system.... ;-)

I have several disk images of GEOS and so far I've only been able to get as far as a white screen on my maxi someone mentioned that there was something in the back of my manual that I had to use to rename GEOS in order to get iit to work this is driving me crazy any advice please I could have had several cups of coffee thats how long I waited where in the manual do I find this information

Go to the 1:00 mark in this video and look at the tags that go at the end of the file name.

I need your help because REU is driving me crazy! I am using theC64maxi, updated to firmware 1.6.1-amora, and I have modified the geos filename using the exact same flags you used in this video but yet REU is not recognised by Geos! What should I do to make it work? Help me, please!

I suspect it is the copy of GEOS you are using. I had another disk that had one that it wouldn’t work on. Go out and find GEOS from a different website , download a new copy and then apply the flags to the file name. Let me know how it goes. I’m curious to see if that was it for you as well.

Easy on Mac vice. Go to preferences, settings then look under “machine” category on left. Go down to memory expansion hacks and Highlight that. Then look on right for +256k and click that. Have fun…

In GEOS, use LEFT ctrl key and I to choose your input device with the cursor keys. Then use Alt-Q in VICE for the mouse input. Cheers
