I've been using the OP/TECH USA strap for years. I like the neoprene wide shoulder strap which spread the weight of the camera.

Thanks for the great demo. They all have the pros and cons. No one system is perfect as far as I am concerned.

Gordy wrist strap and peak design sling lite are my go to for casual shooting. My work rig is the black rapid double breathe.

I find that my go- to carry for a lightweight set up is the Peak Design Cuff followed by the PD Leash worn cross body with the attachment points both on the tripod plate. I use my Capture Clip on my backpack when hiking.

I love using the Peak Design system, but I think it's a pity that their newer models for Capture no longer have wide slots on their for more common wrist straps.

Thank you so much for the comment. What strap system are you using?
@RandumbTech2 жыл бұрын
I’ve bought and used all of the gear you listed in your video over the years 🤣 they all serve a purpose. The best hack is to attach the capture clip to the slide strap. That way you can carry it as a normal sling strap but quickly remove it if you need more range.

Very helpful guide! Would you know a good strap that would work whilst riding a bicycle?
@DaveTCSTV2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Cycling presents it's own challenges for sure. I typically wear a small backpack and because of that I use the Peakdesign capture clip with a small to medium size camera.

As I am very partially sighted i found the normal straps and cross body ones don't work for me as I use a white cane to get around. I bought the Cotton Carrier CCS G3 and it just is a great system and took a lot of stress off my neck and made it so easier for me to use my cameras especially when walking about

I have a hard time finding any strap which I can use comfortably for a long period of time. My gear is usually a little over 1kg, but I always circle back to some form of makeshift wrist strap and dangle the camera from my arm if I need both hands. Far from ideal either. However, that weight on a neck strap will hurt my neck quickly. On a body strap to the side will cause back pains from being out of balance all the time. It is very much possible I have not found the right one for me yet, but for now it's usually a neck strap wrapped around my wrist as a sort of wrist strap. Thoughts about real wrist straps, because that option was missing from the video?
@DaveTCSTV2 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching. We kept this video to more hands free carry options however there is a time and place when wrist straps are a great option. I know I have dangerously held my camera over water and cliffs to get the right angle and a wrist strap was the right answer there. I do like the peak design wrist straps as they incorporate into the rest of their system nicely.

I use a BlackRapid strap with their 1/4 20 nut attached to an Arca Swiss compatible clamp. I have an Arca Swiss compatible plate attached to my camera. My larger lenses have Arca Swiss compatible feet attached to them. This lets me clamp onto the camera or lens as needed with the BlackRapid strap. This also means I can just unclamp my strap and reclamp the camera or lens onto a tripod. I have additional Arca Swiss clamps with BlackRapid 1/4 20 nuts and 10mm straps attached to carabiners for additional anchoring points to secure my gear as needed.

Peak design slide or slide lite for Sony a7 iv + tamron 28-75?
@MichaelLaing712 жыл бұрын
My worry with the Black Rapid and the sun sniper style straps, where you screw in the strap to the came is that you can damage the thread of the camera, over time (in fact this did happen to my assistants camera, after a few years). I do much prefer a cross body strap and have been using a modified Optech cross body strap for 10+ years and it has been great. It also isn't that expensive compared to the Peak design but it doesn't look as nice but it does allow me to connect to the strap holders on the camera.

Nice review of neck and cross body straps, plus backpack clip, but what about the other types of carry, like wrist straps, or waist carry systems such as Spider Holster or the Peak Design belt clip. Expand the options!! 🙃
@DaveTCSTV2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. There are soooo many options out there so we touched on the basics to keep the video a decent length. Keep watching as I will certainly be trying and testing different carry solutions in the future.

I wish there was a neck style strap that had those c clips on each end, making it fast to attach/detach the strap. Kinda like the clip on the Black Rapid but neck style. This way it frees up the bottom screw for a tripod mount.
@Benderlaiv2 жыл бұрын
You might want to check out the Peak Design anchor links. They can be used with any strap. Adding an L plate and using a side thread hole for the black rapid will also free the bottom arca attachment.

Nice video, I am tempted by the cross body straps, however my concern would be potential accidental bumps to the camera, any thoughts on that?
@DaveTCSTV2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Yes that is a concern. If I am moving I generally rest my hand on the camera to minimize any accidental bumps.

If hiking in the country with a wildlife set-up, 400-600mm, what would you recommend? Right now, using the Nikon D810/200-500 with the Nikon D810 strap, but realize these types of zooms are getting smaller & lighter.
@DaveTCSTV2 жыл бұрын
HI, thanks for watching. The D810/200-500 makes for a sizable set up. Shorter hikes the cross body type straps work really well. They allow your hands to easily and quickly rest if your shooting a lot handheld. If you are going for a longer hike and you want the camera readily available, the Cotton Carrier is a good option although on a more technical hike there is some potential for visibility issues and being able to see where your feet are stepping. Hope this helps. Thanks

Whether you use a strap, cross-body strap, clip, or cradle, I feel that all the options compromise utility in one significant way or another. The closest thing I've found to a comfortable, truly convenient, and really secure solution is the Cotton Carrier Skout. My one beef, is that their adapter uses the camera's tripod mounting hole and it isn't Arca-Swiss or Manfrotto compatible. Yes, they sell a version of their mounting button which has an Arca dovetail built in, but it's long and will often cover your battery access hatch. It's one of the things I really don't understand with these various accessory manufacturers. Why don't they make attachments which preserve the original functionality of the camera attachment points, while also providing the additional functionality that their product advertises? I know the Peak Design system is supposed to do this, but I also have one of their clips, and I don't find it nearly as comfortable as the Cotton Carrier. Another product you didn't mention, which I have tried is something like the ThinkTank holster with their harness. It works great as a holster, but when I've tried the harness, it's just a real pain to get on and off, and at least with longer lenses, and the larger holsters, it feels like you're pulling the camera out of the bag right in front of your face. Not convenient, or comfortable in that regard at all. For now, the best compromise for me is the Cotton Carrier. I just hope they make an adapter plate which you could clip into your tripod head and which would then accept their button mount. That would be a simple way of making their system just about perfect in my estimation.

Why do you call it a "neck strap"? It is the only strap I use and I NEVER wear it like you showed. I use it over my shoulder, or I use it like a wrist strap. I find it very versatile and I never felt the need for any of the more expensive systems.

As a retired professional photographer in NYC, and an avid street photographer, who walks around with that huge pack back and that many cameras ? I guess a guy that loves “stuff” !
@theothersuperdave Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, as a guy who loves his stuff I am not a fan of carrying around anything more then what's needed. This episode was all about options for having a single camera handy to work with and readily available with the addition of a mid sized backpack for a few other items. Also I love love love shooting in NY. Our last trip there was for the Leica M11, one camera, one lens, no backpack. Cheers.

Ummm, since when, exactly when, did people accept cameras dangling about their hips and joyfully pay $100 and more for a strap? Camera clips are better, just include a tether or something to prevent the camera from flying away from you.
