I am a UCSB Alum. I was a student there a very long time ago. I enjoyed watching this because it brought back many great memories. Some of the best years of my life were at UCSB. It is a great school. Excellent faculty, wonderful people, a perfect climate, a beautiful natural setting, and a top-notch education. Life was and is great at UCSB!

Hi Jane. I am a UCSB alum too. I echo what you said. My days at UCSB were some of the best of my life. It is a terrific school in a beautiful setting. Plus, I was young back then. Now I'm old-lol

Must admit, the mid-60's concrete buildings are drab and out-of-place for Santa Barbara (but they were going for economy back then, not aesthetics). Would have hoped for more Spanish Revival like Occidental or Pomona. Or even some UCLA, USC Romanesque.

This was exactly what bothered me the most going there. All the grey and white drab stucco and concrete made it feel like I was just at a community college by the beach. Zero “collegiate” feel at all.

Hi. I am a UCSB alum. I was a student there a very long time ago. At the time, I felt very safe. The campus then, and hopefully still does, have a very low crime rate. Most crime at UCSB is bike theft. However, I do not recommend living in the adjacent unincorporated area of Isla Vista that borders the campus to the west. Most UCSB students who don't live on campus( I did my whole time) live in the Isla Vista community. It can get very rowdy, and crime in Isla Vista is a major concern.

Is this primarily a commuter school or do students live on campus?

Most live either on campus( I did) or in the adjacent community of Isla Vista which I do not recommend. UCSB is a safe campus and a great school, but Isla Vista is kind of a sleazy area and has a lot of nasty incidents.
