Hi Martin thanks for another helpful video. I believe some insurers insist on wheels being left on because if you take them off, there is no wheel security and nothing to prevent a thief putting their own wheels on and driving off with the van. Steve.

Hi Steve, that makes sense about the wheels, it’s hard work taking them off anyway 🤔 Thanks for comments and watching 🙂

Hi Martin, good point with regards to taking the wheels off. As fitting the AL-KO lock is a condition with many insurance companies taking the wheels off could invalidate some policies. Good job with the axle stands/tyre savers. The condition of caravan tyres and tyre safety is so important. And by doing both the axle stands and tyre savers it will really help to reduce the rate of tyre sidewall cracking. Chris

Hi Chris, Looking after tyres often gets overlooked. Axle stands will help prolong their life. The Alko locks are ok but a pain in the arse to put on. Thanks for watching, Martin 😊

Good tips Martin, although we are hoping to carry on getting away in ours over Winter - well, we will be once we have our recent house move out of the way and everything sorted! When you say you run the Alde heating, I assume that is just running on gas then, although the main battery switch will need to be on? Spring is on the way matey, bet you can’t wait to undo all that Winterising work and get out and about once again? Cheers for now, Rog... 👍🏻 😉 🐍
@TheCaravanNut5 жыл бұрын
Hi Rog, would love to be able to go away all year round, stuff gets in the way! With the heating, I just put the master on heating on gas and let it run for a while. Doesn’t take long to heat up on the gas. Looking forward to getting out again, got some trips booked but always looking to get more in 🤔 Thanks for your support, Martin 😊

The Caravan Nut - That’s great Martin, thank you! I’m over at (cold) storage tomorrow while Jill does a movie in P/boro with her niece, so I am keen to give the Alde a blast now! And you’re very welcome, always enjoy your stuff and generally learn something useful... ✅👍🏻😉

Good advice as usual Martin, we do pretty much the same as you. We go up once a week to check on the van, I also leave a spray bottle of ‘febreeze’ at the van & spray all the cushions and curtains every week, keeps them & the van smelling fresh. I installed a solar panel last winter on the roof & it’s working a treat.
@TheCaravanNut5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Fabreeze is a idea I hadn’t thought of. I need to get round to fitting my solar panel 🤔 Thanks for comment and watching, Martin 😊

The Caravan Nut no worries buddy, there is always something someone hadn’t thought of 😂. Ref solar panel, I installed TWO in line fuses as a double fail safe. I’m always over cautious to the point of OCD 😂

Great vlog Martin ,we do similar things like keep all doors open and stuff like that ,but we go out all year round, at least every month even for just a weekend ,mainly in the Peak District as we only about 10 miles away ,we love walking ,we like to keep all parts moving , on the caravan ,keep the good work up .👍🌲

Hi Chris, would love to get out more often in the van but the work and other commitments get in the way! Good you can get a lot of use in yours, the Peak District is a great area. Thanks for the support, Martin 😊

Thanks Martin some great points we have done most of them ourselves. Due to the way our storage site works we don’t have access to the caravan, if we need to do any work they bring it into a secure compound and then put it back when we have finished. We also go down every few weeks so it doesn’t stand on the same part of the tyre. Thanks for sharing Ian & Sonja.
@TheCaravanNut5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian & Sonja, not heard of a storage system like that, I suppose it keeps the main storage secure. Roll on to next year and more caravanning. Thanks for the support, Martin 😊

Hi I have the same van as you, and you said you removed the leisure battery what about the Tracker alarm back up battery that keeps your alarm active, without the leisure battery this will cause “Tracker Call Centre” to notify you that the Tracker alarm system that it has received a prompt of a low battery warning.
@TheCaravanNut5 жыл бұрын
Hi, We don’t subscribe to the tracker, not sure it even works anymore. I did enquire about registering it but was told it would need updating with a newer tracker. cheers 🙂
@MichaelSmith-xm7ll5 жыл бұрын
Just like you I have winterise my Valencia now going on 9 years old and paid for lifetime support to “Tracker” and forgot about the alarm backup battery when I removed the leisure battery. So put the leisure battery back on and working ok, they have offered an upgrade to a updated Mk2 Tracker complete with a New backup battery New Fobs etc if I want to, at £249 complete with fitting by a Tracker technician at your home or at your storage.

Yes Martin best to take the wheels up off the ground but do you really need to if you have wheel trays fitted under each wheel ? Also you can fit winter wheels for winter time, Another great video roll on summer🌞🌞
@TheCaravanNut5 жыл бұрын
Having the wheels up takes the pressure off the side walls, the tyre savers should protect the bottom of the tyre. Can’t wait to get out in the van again 😊 Thanks for watching 😊
@wendybrooks31425 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, for some reason this will look like my wife is asking you this question but it’s no. So I you have put the van on Jacks, Ok, do you not the Tyre Savers will be an good over the winter?. John
@TheCaravanNut5 жыл бұрын
Hi John, The tyre savers do their job but by putting it on axle stands it takes the weight off the side walls. Our storage gets very cold over the winter, anything to prolong the life of the tyres. Thanks for comments and watching 🙂

I never thought about taking batteries out of the alarms. One thing I do is take the cushions out and leave a laminated red card in thefront window to say.. "All seat cushions have been removed from this caravan" ********"Tracker Fitted"****** Windows left open so you can see this is the case....Martin would you steel a car or caravan with no seats?
@TheCaravanNut5 жыл бұрын
Good idea with the sign, yes a caravan is no good without cushions 😏 Thanks for watching, Martin 😊
@kevineast20795 жыл бұрын
We done most of that prep but our van sits on soft ground so I can’t take the pressure off of the tyres. If I put a small solar panel on to the battery would that be enough to keep it topped up and healthy through the winter.?
@TheCaravanNut5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, I have a 50 watt panel, (not fitted yet) and been told that will be fine for charging. I have no intentions of going off grid! Check forums out and you should get the answer on what panel will do. Thanks for watching 😊
