Thanks, for taking the time to make this video! I just purchased a 2021 Camry SE that was slightly used - 4127 miles - and, as a Toyota Certified Used Car it was supposed to have gone through a similar process. But, because this car had only been on the lot for a few days when I purchased it, apparently, it had not gone through this process. But, rather than tell me that, they let me take the car home on Friday evening and the salesman told me that he would bring me the second key and some papers to sign regarding the certification. Something didn't seem quite right about that, so I took the car back to the dealership yesterday. And, lo and behold, when they tried to get the CMT to sign off on the paperwork, he refused. Instead, he wanted to make sure that everything had been properly inspected, before he would put his signature on the paperwork. I was a bit irritated that what I thought would be a five or ten minute visit turned into an hour and half. But, I felt like the CMT did the right thing. I think the salesman had in mind coercing the CMT to sign the paperwork by telling him that the car had already been taken home by the customer. I do believe that some CMTs might have done just that - sign the paperwork without having actually done the inspection and performed any required repairs. But, this one did what he was supposed to do, even if it meant I had to wait awhile. My confidence in the integrity of the sales team went down, but my confidence in the service department went up. Why am I not surprised?

Good for the CMT. I think it's fair to always assume certification means jack and nothing has been inspected. Inspect it yourself as thoroughly as possible before purchase.

Yes, not Japan most of time but quality at the dealership or employee ethics. Brought my '03 Avalon XLS in for accessory belt change. While there, someone helped themselves to one of my TOYOTA Avalon carpet mats that I purchased 12 years ago when I bought it. Integrity is everything and it is obvious in a dealership if you look

Dear Car Care Nut, I cannot thank you enough for your informative videos, especially this one. I took delivery of my brand new Toyota RAV4 today. You’ll never guess what was in the glove compartment: The underbody plugs! I immediately brought it up to the dealership, and they had a technician install them (he was appalled that the step had been missed). I honestly believe that you saved me from having rust and corrosion problems down the road. Discovering this with only 11 miles on the vehicle was crucial. As a non-mechanical person, I never would have known about this without watching your video. I also found your video about breaking-in the vehicle to be invaluable. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

My experience with my toyota dealership where I purchased my 2016 Tacoma was awesome. My salesman knew how excited I am for my tacoma, after all, from order placement to delivery it took almost 2 months, and it's all due to the actual build, not a pre- built unit being shipped from another dealership, but actually getting built fresh off the ground. He called me to see the brand new Tacoma with 000001 miles, all wrapped up in white wrapper being off loaded the delivery truck. Drove it home 2 days after all the homework the dealership have to do before the hand off.

The DC Cut fuse was removed during transport to prevent battery drain, the dash will show you lots of warning lights because of that, so when it arrives in the dealership, it needs to be installed. Then you have to do initialization of some of the systems like seat ECU (for the seat memory), parking assist dynamic guidelines(steering angle calibration), Panoramic view monitor (360 camera), initialization of TPWS and tire pressure correction, calibration of parking support brake, condition of battery charge and installation of under body plugs.

Hey there, greetings from Slovakia. This is a great video! I just picked up my new Corolla hybrid and checked all the things you are talking about AMD. They did look at me in a funny way, but I am sure they learned something new, as the lady at the dealership forgot to mention the cooler vents for the battery. Apparently, nobody asks about this when they receive their car. So HUGE thank you for this and all other videos that help us uneducated car care nuts to be wiser. @@minisurfbanana They pay about 1 hour. If you want it done properly. Longer is better. I myself like to make sure everything works, so I literally lose money doing these jobs. I'd rather check for problems before the customer gets the car, rather than after. After costs me more money. I make $0 checking problems customers are concerned about after they bought the car. Wasted 3 hours on a customer car for a strange noise that I could only duplicate 1 in every 30 or so tries. So, I basically lost $100 on one car.

@@minisurfbanana I'd say its reasonable. It depends if it got a block heater installed. If its just a straight up PDI that was a pretty darn good job. That means they even tested the 12v battery which a lot of techs skip. I've had to do a rush PDI in the past, takes me 1.2 run time to complete it including a block heater install so 2 hours is reasonable.

I just bought a new 2021 Avalon Limited that I ordered back in March. I found a package in the trunk with 2 body plugs in it. I called the dealer and was told that they were not important but I could install them if I wanted to! I installed them just like was shown in the video. I also found 2 parts in a blue bag in the trunk that the dealer didn't have a clue what they were for! I "googled" the part numbers and found out they were insulators for an underbody panal at the front of the car! I will be installing them first chance I get. Now I'm not sure I can trust the dealer with performing the scheduled service under the free maintenance plan. Thank you so much for this video!

If I were you, I would report that dealer to Toyota corporate, BBB, and post the Dealership here so others won’t be taken by them. The dealer insulted your intelligence, and needs a come to Jesus meeting just for starters. I caught a dealership lying to me when I had a oil change and tire rotation. I mark my tires with pink fingernail polish, and when I inspected the back tires, they were not rotated. Caught them red handed, and service manager told me “ they didn’t mean to “. Also they didn’t tighten the oil filter and next morning there was oil all over my garage floor. I was late to work due to returning to dealership to fix their carelessness shoddy work. AND THEY DONT CARE.

I have a 2013 Tundra DC, SR-5. I still have it, 100,000+ miles on it and still drives like new. When I got it it had a very slight pull to the right when driving in a straight line. Could only detect it when I would do a "hands-off" controlled stop. The dealer kept my truck for days adjusting the front-end alignment, only making it worse. I finally told them to reset it to factory spec. and I would live with it, as it was hardly noticeable unless driving and it would slowly drift to the right while driving straight. I checked the tire pressure ( this dealer had the fancy nitrogen-filled tires) and there was as much as a 15 psi difference in tire pressure between the different tires. I corrected the pressure differential and the problem was fixed.

Thank you for the excellent video. I am from Finland and I consider the Toyotas to be of very high quality products in most cases. Seeing the underside of the car makes me wonder if additional underside protection would be needed in certain market areas, i.e. a protective sprayed coating on top of the factory-painted unprotected areas. At least in Finland, salt (+sand) is sprayed on the road surfaces during winter time. They can be ruthless to the metal surfaces, no matter which car brand.

One piece of advice for buying a new car, even a Toyota: Inspect the car during your discussion and negotiations and note any issues such as paint blemishes, scratches (especially in plastic), dings etc. during daylight, on a bright sunny day outdoors. If you find any, find a different car if you are OCD or make it part of your negotiation. You will be surprised what you find. Most minor flaws can be buffed out, but some require a paint shop or new part, reject those cars for new car purchase. Once a car goes to a paint shop, its never like new.

And as soon as you take the vehicle never take it back to a dealership for a service, except for warranty work, because any licenced mechanic with the right equipment and computer.scan tool can perform servicing and at a .. It will not void any new car warranty. Dealerships make their money from servicing, and it is inflated costs. Warranties are not voided if an owner elects to use an independent mechanic for regular servicing. and as long as the servicing is done on time, even with non genuine parts, that are "fit for service", the manufacturers warranty legally applies and the dealership must perform the warranty work, even if they do not do the logbook servicing.

At the Toyota dealership I work at. Since we live in an Inspection state we do this check once the cars come off the truck. And when they’re sold look them over again for our state mandated Safety/Emissions checks. So we call It a “Post Delivery Inspection” I don’t work on them I simply just wash the cars after the techs look them over, but I’ve seen the process now and it’s amazing God bless you brother

Fifteen months ago I purchased a used Camry from my local (Ontario, CAN) dealer. As you said, because mechanics get a wee bit of something or other on their boots, my floors in the front had the paper covers and the driver's seat had a plastic cover on it. I had to wait two days longer than what was first told to me because they were having problems with one of their machines needed to undercoat my car. I was given the option to take it as is or wait and get it fresh. I waited. My service was just super and all the staff were wonderful. I know some people seem to have a hard time with some dealers but I seldom do. I believe a lot of it has to do with the client's attitude to start with. Yes, I do find they are a higher price for servicing but I like the idea of Toyota servicing knowledge about my car. I have had a few normal repairs/servicing done and without a doubt my dealer takes so much care with cleanliness , etc. and I have yet to be disappointed with anything. Now, I know every dealer does things differently and maybe I'm just fortunate but at this point I am going to stick with my dealer as they have proven themselves to me. Hope you can find a decent, honest dealer or independent service centre in your area.

As the buyer, when you pick a car note the VIN and before you sign make sure the paperwork matches that VIN and before you drive away, make sure the VIN is correct. I knew someone where the dealer tried to switch cars on him and he caught it.

I call Friday "gravy day" at work. I get to do PDI on Toyotas. Of course right now, we only do maybe 1 or 2 because that's all that can come in during the week. Doing PDI on Toyotas is a time consuming but easy process. The same goes when I do PDI on Fords from Oakville Canada, hardly any issues and it's just the standard checklist. If it comes from Louisville (Escape) or Chicago (Explorer), I always get my tools and coffee ready because it's going to be a long day.

2022 Corolla Hybrid SX Sedan (Australia) GOOD NEWS: As we are in Lockdown the kind dealer delivered my car to my home 45 miles away from dealership. Thanks to your video I checked for lower front bumper damage (none) body plugs were installed, and steering wheel was centered. BAD NEWS: Those 45 miles are mostly on a major 70MPH highway and PDS did not catch tire pressure which was 60+ PSI all around - Lucky no blowouts.

I bought a brand new 6-speed 2020 Corolla hatchback SE last year. Great car! By the way, I bought it without knowing how to drive it. Dealership delivered it to my home after I wrote the check. It was incredibly easy to learn to drive it, Toyota did a great job at making a manual that's perfect for beginners. And I was someone who thought I'd never learn to drive a manual car. I'm glad I took the risk, it's so much fun to drive! By the way, a few months after I bought the car, my state, Ohio, dropped the front license plate requirement! Instead of worry about plugging the holes in the bumper, I instead found a website where you can buy a custom replica Japanese license plate. I mounted it to my car, and it looks really cool!

Excellent channel - In watching I was educated about the underbody plugs that have to be installed pre-delivery. Before getting behind the wheel I did as many of the checks you suggested and in the glovebox I found a plastic pack containing 2 underbody plugs - remembering what you had shown, I queried this with the sales person - he went and got a service technician who on checking under the car, apologized profusely, then installed the plugs - Without your advice, I wouldn’t have known what these were nor would I likely have queried this with the dealership - you’ve possibly saved me some future grief - thank you 😊

Great video with lots of useful information. Where this can all come undone is accessories especially on off road vehicles. While generally the dealer will fit genuine accessories the after market ones are usually fitted off site. So here in Australia you might want a uhf radio, bull bar, spot lights ect all fitted before taking delivery of the car and normally the dealership will send the car out to have this stuff done. While the manufacturers take a lot of trouble to eliminate rattles and squeaks the after market guys generally don’t. I have seen some terrible fitting of accessories both outside the car and behind the dash. Bolts missing, broken clips, clips missing, interior trim panels cracked and damaged mounting clips. I went to remove a trim panel once after having an accessory fitted only to find the installer had broken the mounting clips and instead of repairing the part he had just used hot glue to hold it on. I have seen a lot worse though. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺

He was blown away that this happened and i was very thankfull for him fixing that. Also he was at a different dealership than the one purchased first could not fix it and that was my 5th visit!!!, first front plastic part/rubber sway mounts replaced with just rubber, power steering rack replaced and finally the rear bolts thingy.
