Just an interesting side note, those 1UZ engines were FAA certified. Toyota at the time was looking into getting into the small aircraft manufacturing and they were going to use a supercharged version of this engine. So the engine is very light weight but strong enough to be boosted enough to make almost 500hp.

I just bought a 1996 LS400 about 5 months ago for my first car. It’s been the absolute best car ever. It’s so beautiful and the interior is so nice. It rides amazing and it’s so bulletproof. The build quality and material quality is so high. Easily the best car I will ever own

It took me two years to get my LS400 up and running. Finding and making parts was the most time consuming, good luck with this one AMD!

Another great video...and your shop is sooo clean! Love it. In 2004, I inherited my Dad's 1999 LS400 with just 15K on the odometer. Wonderful car until teenager ran a stop light and T-boned the passenger side. Replaced with a new Toyota Tundra...another well built product.

I bought my grandparents 2000 Lexus LS 400 a two years ago from their estate when my grandmother passed away. It has 171,882 miles on it now and it looks exactly like this car. The problem is like mentioned parts are very hard to find. I had to dump almost $9,000 when I got it to replace practically everything that is rubber. I had high pressure A/C hoses leaking fluid everywhere because they had corroded. I had to do the valve covers, replace the radiator, all the fluids changed. It was not cheap. I did have some body work done on the rear bumper because my grandma backed into a metal garbage can in a parking lot once. Luckily it was a Texas vehicle it's entire life so no rust. minus the bumper which I did replaced. Anyway, this video is very dejavu for me because most of what you are replacing I did as well. My big concern is parts in the future. The starter and alternator have never been replaced, and when I went to the Lexus dealership they told me to buy up everything I can parts wise because they are discontinuing parts for the LS 400 in 2025. I dropped another $2,000 on a starter, alternator, and some smaller parts that will need to be replaced sooner than later.

There will still be aftermarket parts available. Not as good but still keep you on the road. You can also have your alternator and starter rebuilt.

When ordering your rad what are your thoughts on a all aluminum rads as opposed to the plastic aluminum one now a day some that I have seen on line 3 to 4 cooling runs to me it seems like a no brainer

While this car was assembled by a skillful Japanese workers, I was in my first grade, the internet was the new thing, the Clinton's were everywhere, and the PS1 just launched. I love the 90's and love the original LS even more.

I’m not so sure this is the ultimate LS400. Most people think the UCF10 is the most iconic and in my opinion the UCF21 (98-00) are the better cars. These UCF20 LS400’s have always been the awkward middle child of the first gen LS’s. Still an absolute gem, though.

1. very good job 2. my Toyota is 20 years old. getting much harder to get parts. cannot be without a car for more than a day or two if the car has to be in the shop. still, I have saved many thousands of dollars if the alternative were to buy another car every 4 or 5 years. 3. living in an urban area, it is inevitable that a car gets parking lot rash, so I have a lot of parking lot rash. however, I control the fact that the interior is clean and unstained.

AMD used parts from eBay, some good, some bad. But still a source. Conversly googling dismantlers, but stock availability is ??.

When Toyota was trying to solidify its place at the top and suceeded. Toyota is unfortunately just average to slightly above average now. If you don’t agree that’s fine but it’s the truth unfortunately.
