SO WHAT SMASHED THE WINDOW?. We reckon it was a stone flicked up by the passing green Land Rover. Gravel driveways often get stuck between the tread of the tyres on big SUVs, and then are flung out when they accelerate on tarmac roads.

Being able to frame check for damning evidence and a number plate would be most satisfying. The mobius cameras are great for capturing side views and are very discrete for capturing 'supermarket car park rash' and vandalism incidents. USB power banks can enable several days of protection without killing your car battery.

Update: check out projectile which seems to become airborne as vehicle passes. Immediately prior to impact, you can see it has a blurry speck located at the rear of car guys head @18:49 Due respect, I don’t believe a stone the size of which would be lodged in a tire tread, traveling in a parallel path like that can impart enough force to make the window fail. The failure was obviously caused by stress on the window. What would cause that much stress? It seems to me to be one of three scenarios. First, and least likely, it could’ve resulted from a manufacturing defect in the glass itself. Secondly, could have resulted from improper mounting of the window. Perhaps the vehicle was worked on previously. Other than that it may have resulted from a projectile originating from a location perpendicular to the vehicle.

So many variables, and you should also note that the 458 is depreciating. Better value is a direct function of usage and inflation. And as a drivers car, the 488 is MILES better than the 458.

@@AB-80X But the interior is almost the same, and the speedometer is the same, well, the 458 italia originally would have a 370km/h speedometer, but they leaved it in 360km/h instead 370km/h, so the 458 would be faster than 488 GTB for 10km/h, I don't take account the want everyone call top speed, because top speed is only a speed record, isn't the max, the max is what gives you the speedometer, the 488 GTB is 360km/h and the 458 have the same, but originally gonna had a 370km/h speedometer, if you don't believe I will let here a link of some images official video of the 458 italia.

@@playgt326 Best I ever personally saw in a 458 Italia was 335 on gps @ 8900 rpm. So far the best I've seen in a 488 Spider was 341 @ 7500 rpm. The Italia was definitely maxed, as we could pin it for about 4-5 minutes. The 488 may have had a kph or two left, but it was pretty much done at that speed. If a 458 runs 339 gps, that's definitely only in perfect conditions where the DA is low and temps are down.

458 for the naturally aspirated engine and the sound. Plus the 488 is so damn fast, I rather redline more often than to have to stop. I really don't think I need that power in my life. Around 500hp is perfect for me on any 3000 to 3500 ish pound car. Honestly anything over or around 350 on a 3000 pound car is fine with me.

There is no real option if you are a "car man" (or woman).....owning my 458 has been the greatest of thrills this side of early teenage fumblings....and having been able to pre-order a 488 once I test drove the model I passed it on to someone else and "downgraded" to my 458.....without question the best decision I ever made.....The very last of the real supercars, less interference by computers, the lack of a whining turbo, and the Novitec F1 Rosso exhaust I had fitted has rounded the package off perfectly. And these 2 guys, glad to watch you and thanks for coming to the same decision.

You forgot one metric ... the most important, "Ownership peace of mind", so lots of warranty, service pack, reliability, no MOT's etc. The 458 is a headache compared to buying a 488. Also the price difference can be a lot lower than 50k in some scenarios which makes the newer superior 488 look much better value.

Best looking and best driving Ferrari in my opinion it’s the 458 . I had the Ferraris from the 430 onwards and all the 911 turbos since the 993 turbo. There is no car better than the 458 ,it is really saturating all your senses. If I had one criticism would be it’s brakes that they don’t give you a solid feedback.

I thought the 488 did 0..60 in 2.9s and the 458 in 3.4s (?) and also the rev limiters are 9'000 in 458 and 8'000 in 488 (?) its the compressed pressure between the two cars, the only solution was if he drove slower to minimize risking the window to breakdown. as for why he's effected its because of the aero dynamic wind and pressure relief of the front to mid of the 458.... + not many people know how thick the glass are on these cars

Hired a 458 Spyder for a long weekend mid June. I thought long and hard about which Ferrari to hire. I had to have the 458 Spider which had a black carbon fibre roof. Only time the roof was up was when it was parked. Drove 600 miles and it was so addictive with the pure NA V8 exhaust sound. The extra revs at the top end make such a difference. I did wonder if I should have hired a 488 for my 40th but after watching your video you have reconfirmed for me that I made the right choice! Cheers guys!

I have enjoyed driving the 488 immensely for all the reasons you cite but there is just nothing like the 458 particularly with the top down and the sports exhaust. Are you kidding me!!?? After listening to your review, I have decided when my 812 arrives I am definitely going to trade in the 488 and keep the 458 spider. Crazy about the window. I like both cars, but this seems awfully biased towards the 458. It'll always be a special car, no doubt, but I'm fairly certain that the 488 is the better car in most measurable categories. Whether or not that's what's most important is another story for another day. Based on value and sound, I'd say the 458 would definitely be a more reasonable choice - it's unlikely you're ever going find yourself wishing for more power.

Where Ferrari excels is in their marketing. No one besides these two have pointed out that the 488 has 100 more horses power and lighter than the 458 but is no quicker 0-60 and is actually slower at the top speed. It is rare you will find a reviewer who will actually point these things out because of the risk of being shunned by Ferrari from ever being granted access to their cars again. Car reviewer were once banned from pitting the LaFerrari against the P1 or 918 by Ferrari. Anyone who did would be banned from buying another Ferrari.

According to Ferrari, the 458 takes 3.4 secs from 0 to 62 mph whereas the 488 takes 3 secs flat from 0 to 62 mph. This makes sense as the 488 has significantly more power and torque than the 458 and superior aerodynamics as well as being the lighter car.

I've driven 458 on a track recently and there was a 488 too, the sound and the looks is heavily on the 458 side. I'm not into Ferraris, 458 is not that great on a track either compared to Porsches or GTRs, but the feel is really unique and I plan to buy one.

Ferrari tidied up the side intakes of the 488 in the Pista. To me, the 488 Pista is now the best looking modern Ferrari ever. Shame it's still not that fast either. Ferrari must be throttling the speed of the 488 somehow, for some reason. It's got the power. And yet it seems to hit a wall when it gets close to 200mph. It could really be the aero affecting its top speed, who knows.

Everyone’s so biased towards the 458 because of the NA engine. Yes, the NA is more fun, exciting, and valuable. But it doesn’t make it a better car compared to the 488. Wonder how many people would “prefer the looks of the 488” if it were the 488 with the NA engine and vise versa. I currently own a Pista, Pista Spider, F8 and 488 Spider, and have owned several 458's. Your opinion is just that, an opinion. Remember that you said after the 458, the steering was not as sharp and felt numb because of electric assisted steering? Dead wrong. Same exact setup in all the cars. Fine if you prefer the 458, but that's you. I don't like the wooden brakes. I hate the jerky shits that unsettles the car, I don't care fo the monotone engine drone, the throttle sensitivity is crap, the interior is not very good, and by comparison as a drivers car, the 458 leaves a lot to be desired. And don't for a second think that's because I only like modern cars. I think it is safe to say that cars like my 250, F40, Enzo, Singer and 328 tells a different story. Like I said, it is fine that you like the 458. I have a new 812 superfast Blue Electrico, but I am looking for a spider, and 458 spider comes to mind, is the driving feel of 458 spider or coupe more agile more grounded and pointy than 812? also, one more thing 812 is very busy and bouncy comparing to Portofino or Lusso, so is 458 bouncy as well or is it smoother than 812 you would say, you are the expert so your advice would be much appreciated on my two questions, thank you again for your time and help

I love those cars but your video is quite subjective. I personnaly prefer the design of the 488 and that is only my opinion. For the performance, the 488 has a better 0-100km/h (3sec against 3.3 and the 488 even beats the speciale on a drag race..) a better top speed (325 km/h for 458 and 330km/h for 488) and the aero of the 488 is produicing 50 per cent more down force than the 458, so i agree with you the value of the 458 will really increase compared to the 488 but try just to be more objective and precise when you are talking about specs and performances because it feels like from the beginig to the end of the video the 458 is the absolut winner. But nice video and it's really cool to compare those two incredible cars 👍

@@TheCarGuysTV Hi there, how do you find the reliability with the 458? was considering buying a F430 but seen one or two nightmarish videos relating to clutches, cracked manifolds and ball joints on them and read that other than the early 2010 cars (458) had a few transmissions troubles they are much better.

Fantastic balanced review chaps, I bought a red 458 Italia 2013 plate with 5500 miles.. mint condition ..what fun, thank you for your review, i did look at the 488, but agreed with you, £25000 price gap, even with a newer car, I still went with the older naturally aspirated 458. Feels like I am driving it, not the turbo and electrics of the 488. Loved the mod cons in the 488, but na, had to get the honest last Ferrari.

I am saving up to buy ONE car..... present wheels are a BMW M4 with comp pack and it is a truly fantastic piece of kit...... however as I am getting to be a bit of an old fart and before I start losing the plot or get stuck in an old people's home dribbling..... if you could have ONE supercar from the following which would it be please?.... I am excluding 488 and Porsche GT3 RS on the grounds that I can't afford a 488 and just hate the door handles with a vengeance and the GT3RS is just a bit dare I say it Kit Car !?!.... Major consideration is it will NEVER see a track. Must be reasonably user friendly - although I only usually listen to Radio 2 anyway so not over bothered about changing stations on the move. Best DRIVERS car - mainly A and occasional B roads, dual carriageway and occasional longer trips. But needs to have the fun factor. Cars on my short list 1) Ferrari 458 Italia 2) Porsche 991 GT3.... version 1. 3) Lamborghini Huracan 4) McLaren 570s Which likely to hold its value best and which one am I least likely to get shot by my missus if I get one? Hi Roger - great question. I would unquestionably go for the 458 Italia (newest you can get for your budget - 2015 car if you can) for the following reasons: i) Comfortable, sophisticated ride - luxurious (bumpy road, sport setting) ii) Fast and exhilarating when you want it to be (race mode) iii) Still a beautiful car. If you are older and want a more quiet life, I would go for Tour de france blue, grey or silver. Subtle, but still shows off the lines. iv) Awesome noise when you want to ring its neck, but does drone on motorways/A roads v) Last normally aspirated Ferrari V8 - will therefore hold its value more than the rivals, and will always be cherished by Ferrari fans in the future. My thoughts on the rivals: Porsche 991 GT3 - great car, but lacks wow factor outside of the track, bit noisy/harsh on normal roads, and that fixed wing - not for a distinguished gentleman like yourself. Lamborghini Huracan - a bit of an asbo device and not something I'd recommend for an older gentleman - they are young rebel-rouser cars with loud droning exhausts, and... an image. Not for you. McLaren 570s - I would go for the Spyder in that electric blue - what a car. A very comfortable car to drive, lots of pace, a bit more subtle than other McLaren's - great proportions. Negatives: reliability/fit 'n' finish. Epic depreciation. Not a huge amount of 'zingy' excitment. Hope that helps. You should post this on the videos of 5 other prominent car KZbinrs and compare the answers :)

I have owned two previous Ferraris 308GT4 which was a fantastic ( very underrated ) car if you could manage to avoid knocking the light stalk with your knees and turning the headlights off!!!!!.... but I loved that car and I sold it for Porsche Carrera RS...... Yes. THE really rare super collectable one that is now fetching absolutely crazy money... 308GT4 nobody liked or wanted... but it never missed a beat when I had it and every single drive was an "occasional" Porsche Carrera ..... classic Daytona yellow, side decals, lightweight and HOW MUCH are they selling for nowadays????..... mine broke down all the time, was freezing cold in the winter and crazy hot in the summer and was almost impossible just to drive in a straight line in the dry...... in the wet or damp conditions was just downright scary..... "DRIVERS car????" My arse.... I used to race motorbikes but Porsche just noisy, bumpy, skittish heap of junk......! Bet you don't get many people saying that.... So I sold that and bought a 308GTB... like Magnum P I had.... BRILLIANT..... Why oh why did I ever get rid of that....? Various other Porsche, Lotus, Noble, Lambo Gallardo, Mercs and CSL M3-etc followed... And now my Daily Driver is M4 comp pack in Austin yellow..... very eye catching and its brilliant brilliant car and I love it... But thanks to you Guys and various other You Tubers... my heart says 458 Italia...... think McLaren might have problems with door clearance when opening in my garage and they seem to depreciate like crazy.......Missus wants Porsche but it just lacks a bit of soul. I AM tempted by Huracan.... coz its daft. But Some people mention accelerator is VERY sensitive and a bit snatchy on 458. Her Indoors would need to be able to drive it aswell without kangarooing up the road..... What are your thoughts / comments on that please? Cheers Ta Rog

Great vid. Doubt 488 engine is lower (look for cam cover rather than inlet crackling). I suspect longer inlet tracts on 458 mean the uppermost surface higher.
