✨Welcome to the Minimalism category of QuiltCon 2024 videos! ✨We did our best to include the names of the quilters and their social media links, but if we missed yours, let me know and I'll add it to the description! Also, please accept my apologies for name mispronunciations or stumbles over quilt names! I appreciate your kindness regarding these mistakes.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of yourQuiltCon videos. Beautifully narrated and videotaped. These are the best quilt show videos I have watched - no weird walking around with camera jiggling, and your thoughts expressed about the quilts were wonderful. Thank you so much! Well done.

Has anyone said that this series is very Antique Road Showesk ? Which is a show I love, but you aren’t just videoing quilts, you are taking the time to l study and learn the history of each quilt made and share that knowledge with us. It’s wonderful. Honestly, Quilt Con needs to hire you two!! 👏🏻👏🏻

Thank you for sharing Mulberry Swirl. Believe it or not, I only used one color of thread to quilt the entire piece-it just looks different based on the background fabric. Color relativity is wild!

Kelly, that is crazy! Sorry I misrepresented how you quilted this piece-but thanks for the comment to set the record straight! 🤓❤️

This was my first exposure to minimalism in quilting. These quilts depend as much on the thread colors and patterns as much as the fabrics, Thank you for all your Quilt Con videos.

Love this category too. Thank you for doing this series and taking the time to give each quilt some description and pointing out the quilting. I bet some were more expressive in person.

Minimalism had some of my favorite quilts, perhaps because so many of them told or reflected a maximal story. Sometimes, minimizing the materials maximizes the creativity and this seemed true for these quilts. Thank you for the walkthrough!❤

I am not much of a quilter (I have finished one & have fabrics for many more 😂) but I am a huge fan of talented textile artists. Minimalism is such a wonderful category: it blows my mind how textile artists explore stories using very contained craft language. Thank you so, so much for showcasing these quilts.

I'm a little surprised at how much I liked this category. My two favorites are "Mulberry Swirl " and "Ripple", both are lovely. I wish that I could see them in person although your comentation helped bring me there! I think that it must be so hard not to touch them!! Thank you Cathy and Paul for this visit and guide to Quilt Con. Was it all Modern?

Yes, Kathi---all the quilts are modern because QuiltCon is put on by the Modern Quilt Guild. 🤓👍🏻 And yes, it is so hard not to touch!!

Some very clever designs here, but the one that had an emotional impact was the black and white life fading away quilt. To think someone completed that on the day her Dad died, not only makes me go "Ah!" But she must have taken some comfort in her art / hobby . I almost feel both pain of grief and relief her loved one is no longer in pain buried in her final stiches.

I LOVE that quilt, Interstitched, by Robert Bosscher too! I am guessing that he washed it before submitting it? If I'm right, this would have been a deliberate decision in order to get all those puckers, am I right? I assume some quilts shown at quilt shows are washed and others are not. I have no idea, to be honest....and I don't really hear anybody talking about this? Is this (washed vs. unwashed) at all talked about, Cathy? Or, is this question a complete non-issue?
@TheCatBirdQuilts
@TheCatBirdQuilts 8 ай бұрын
I don't know if Robert washed his quilt or not, but washing would certainly add texture! I haven't been a part of, nor heard anyone talking about washing a quilt for a show. I DID wash mine, because I had starched several fabrics and wanted the starch dots to wash out. I was nervous that it would crinkle up too much and lose that pristine look (that unwashed quilts have) or look messy and misshapen. So I laid it flat to dry, and ironed it on a low setting just to make sure it was really smooth, which worked beautifully. I suspect most people do not wash their quilts, especially the ones that have significant hand work details or appliqué or other features that would distort the piece if washed (or just wouldn't hold up in the washer!) Many of the quilts would be considered "art quilts" and as a result, won't ever be "used" as a quilt and so washing is irrelevant. But those are just my thoughts---it would be interesting to know what professional quilters (or those that routinely submit quilts to competitions) would say on the subject.

Cathy and Cat Bird Crew - thank you so much for such quality videos from QuiltCon 2024. (And I just noticed you have a different beautiful tote) Lately, I've watched some great quilt related videos, and found a "Button Quilt" from the 1940's; I thought of you and your growing button bag. At min 44:35 is the button quilt kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYjXk6KIraunndU
