FWIW, it's Pavlov's dog and Pascual's wager. Faith and reason are not mutually exclusive. Truth is truth. Scientists have developed the multiverse theory which basically is infinite regression. Why do you and I know that I am me and you are you. Self-consciousness is unique only to our species and science cannot explain it. Just a thought to ponder, give God the chance and he'll clear it all up for you.

Judas thought that eventually Jesus would build an army to defeat the Romans but when he realized that That wasn’t what Jesus mission was that’s when the devil entered him and he decided to take another path but I don’t think he knew that they would torture and crucify Him he probably thought that they would put him in a prison. On the other hand maybe Jesus pick Judas because He knew that he had to die for us and chose Judas because he knew he would be the one to betray Him??

I am writing this before I watch the video but The Mystical City of God authored by Ven Mary of Agreda under the direction of Mary Mother of God discusses Judas in some of the sections. It has been years since I read it but Judas already had weaknesses that Jesus and Mary tried to help him with. His heart became turned against God I think it was pride or one of the deadly sins. I remember when there was a need for a bursar (paraphrasing) Judas volunteered for it. Jesus examined this idea and thought it needed more reflection and maybe it was not a good choice for Jesus already knew it would be in this that he would sin and commit the ultimate sin but Judas persisted so Jesus let him. In the book it is a caution Mary has for us that Jesus will not stand in between our free will and if we choose sin He will allow us to choose it including the means. We see glimpses of Judas in this regard in other passages leading up to the betrayal. One was him disparaging using the fragrant oil to anoint Jesus' feet and then another time where the apostles are discussing Judas and how he stole from the purse in his position of being in charge of their funds. I'll say this, and it is yet ANOTHER miracle that the Church has survived and could not do so without Jesus - if Peter was the Church's first Pope, Judas was the first Financial Officer and yet the Church flourished despite it all from that day to this day and forever.

I had an insight that Judas wanted to force Jesus to perform a miracle to save Himself. This would have obviously brought much money into their purse. It is not about the 30 pieces of silver which is nothing. However, when Jesus does not do this and Judas realizes his own role in the fulfilment of prophecy is when he despaired. Many of us want to force Jesus to perform miracles today.

I have to admit that I have also thought, in addition not opposition to the ideas voiced already, that John sounds a lot like an old man, understandably bitter remembering the betrayal, now in his 90's, just venting some bad feelings that may or may not be completely true of Judas. Believing in the truth and inspiration of scripture doesn't keep me from at least musing about these things. But I could be wrong, on multiple levels. If so, pray for me?

"All roads lead to finance," said my accountant friend. "If you want to understand an organization, become their treasurer"! (Interesting that a poor itinerant preacher and his equally poor followers would need a treasurer). As the treasurer, Judas would therefore see where the money was coming from, and where it was going to, and the implications thereof. Obviously, he decided he did not like the direction things were heading.

First, I ask our Lord God for forgiveness for this comment and may the Holy Spirit guide me more to the right path. This is my comment: All of us were created for a purpose. We were given a role, a mission to accomplish here on earth. Unfortunately, Judas Escariot was given this role to betray Jesus to make redemption come into reality. If not him, I think there would be another person to do it. In other words, Judas was part of the equation. I was asking myself, if there was no betrayal, how would Jesus die on the cross and resurrect after three days? Would Jesus' enemies still come after him and bring him to trial? Instead of condemning Judas, and considering that he was repentant of that grave act, we should be praying for him. Forgive me if this line of reasoning is not in accordance with the scriptures. Again, may the Holy Spirit enlighten me 🙏🙏🙏

Well equal opportunity I guess. Thing is Judas son of Simon was called a devil from the start, Lord knew he was no good. I assume he had a goal he wanted to reach which he did. His goal was to buy the land. I assume he took the parable of the treasure found in the land and selling everything he had to his extreme. He gave his teacher up for some side money to buy a land. Why would you make an outsider and thief in charge over the money? Guess the Lord kept operating life as usual even toward Himself to fulfill His purpose.

Judas committed the unpardonable sin, the sin against the Holy Spirit. That is why Jesus did not pray for him even though He earnestly prayed for Simon Peter and others in His High Priestly Prayer but condemned Judas as the man destined to perish (Jn 17) The sin against the Holy Spirit is what St Paul says as, "It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age- and then have fallen away-to be restored to repentance...." and "If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God." (Heb 6: 4-6/10: 26-27) >>>

Was Judas jealous of Mary’s “extravagant” (because of the cost of the expensive ointment 🧴 and the tears and movements with her hair ) demonstration of love and obvious care for JESUS? Did Judas secretly want Mary as his own girlfriend or possible wife? And the money was really beside the truth, Mary showering JESUS with love and adoration which made him sell out JESUS????? You are measuring it with modern US standard . We are extremely rich, even the poorest among us are richer than most people in the world. One denarius , is what one person earns in one days work , if a denarius is about a gram and the silver coins have 17grams that's 17 worth of work per coin multiple that by 30 that's 510 days worth of work... That's like if some one would pay your salary for a year and half ... That's a lot of money .... In today's world the majority of people in the world live on about a dollar a day .. that's the value of a gram of silver .

I disagree. Judas, in my opinion, had the greatest faith in Christ as the Messiah. However, his expectation of what the Messiah would do for the people of Israel was not what Jesus was going to do. What I see in the text is that Judas thought he could arrange the situation so that Jesus would have no alternative but to step up and claim the thrown of David and overthrow the oppressors of the Jews. I really do not think this was all about the money because he had the money in his hands. If it was about the money he would not have given the money back after Jesus was taken prisoner. There is also the conditions of the betrayal. Thirty-pieces of silver had a cultural connotation. In the law that sum was the price of a dead slave. It appears to me that the religious leaders were showing their contempt for both Judas and Jesus by offering that amount. For Judas to accept that amount would have most likely been a shock to the leaders who offered it. I suspect that they expected Judas to reject the offer allowing the Jews to wait until after the Passover. They had already decided not to act on the Passover because Jesus had prophesied that He would be taken, tried and executed on the Passover. Then, for Judas to kill himself would have been his only option to be obedient to the Mosaic Law. The Law condemned a person who falsely accused someone else to receive the punishment (death in the case of sedition) that the falsely accused would receive if found guilty. In my opinion.

Check our daily language and gestures - cast out bad language and gestures. Check our favourite jokes - strike out what's foul. 3. @@davido3026 even when free will is involved Jesus crucifixion still needed to happen by a certain time for the prophecy to be fulfilled and who’s to say at the last moments before Judas kissed him on the cheek he could have changed his mind and not turned him in and kissed some random stranger instead . Then the last supper would have to happen again and so on which wouldn’t make sense since Jesus foresaw his betrayal four different times according to the conversation earlier . Judas had to be the one . The only difference is that he didn’t have to kill himself after he could have asked for forgiveness and repented after Jesus returned on the third day following his death . But even that is a stretch since Jesus told him it would be better that he not even be born which would drive anyone crazy . Not to mention Judas already being off his rocker and supper greedy. Judas was corrupt and could be counted on to backslide and betray Jesus in a very specific way non of the others could .

I feel like Jesus knew that Judas was going to betray him, That, this is the way this has to go down ultimately. But I still think there was that little bit of Jesus that just held out hope against hope that his friend wouldn't do it. And when Judas did, there was such pain and sorrow in Jesus's heart. I think Father rich is right, The kiss was a symbol of true affection that became twisted affection. Or maybe it was a symbol of the last affection that Judas would ever show to his teacher.

I've heard it said that the only unforgivable sin Lee unforgivable sin is against the Holy Spirit and that that means not accepting The forgiveness of Jesus Christ. Maybe if Judas had sought out the the other disciples sought oit was sort out Jesus he might have been able to look for some kind of forgiveness. That's why we need to look for God instead of despairing in times of trouble.

It always blows my mind how God used the will of evil men to complete his plan of salvation. Judas would have been forgiven like Peter was. but Satan used his guilt to take his soul .

It was shame that took him because guilt and shame are different things. I can feel guilty when I done something wrong and go and repent and no longer feel guilty but shame is stronger where you run away out of shame and that is what Judas did.

ALL of the apostles, except John, betrayed Jesus. I think that the reason that Judas was not forgiven was because he simply didn't ask for forgiveness; instead, Judas sacrificed himself for his sin. Jesus is the sacrifice for our sins, Jesus is the only one whose blood can atone for sin. I think that Judas was so sorry when he realized what he had done that he didn't even ask for forgiveness because he thought he didn't deserve it. But all of the other apostles who betrayed Jesus accepted Jesus' sacrifice for them in atonement for their sins. Judas tried to do it himself, which no one is capable of. Salvation from Jesus through his sacrifice is a free gift to us. But we have to accept it in order to have it. I think that Judas betrayed Jesus, first of all, because Judas was possessed by the Devil. Probably Judas' stealing from the till opened a door to the Devil to possess him. But another reason Judas betrayed Jesus was because Judas thought that Jesus would never allow himself to be crucified, and that Jesus could and would call down an legion of angels to rescue him and to overthrow the Romans. That was Judas' greatest interest, that of overthrowing the Romans. Goes to show the saying true that "The Road to Hell is paved with good intentions."

I empatise with Judas and think he didn’t know the Pharisees intended to kill Jesus. I also think he was contrite but in a wrong way. He was too remorseful to live with himself. Perhaps, he was abandoned and didn't know or have anyone to turn to for a better choice. I don't know where he may be now but I hope God's mercy found him still. Thou shall not kill (oneself or other). Lord, help us to trust in your love and mercy to forgive ourselves, trusting you've forgiven us. In Jesus Christ name. Amen

I thought from Judas’ mindset, he was thinking he knew more than Our Lord. Didn’t he think that if Jesus just talked to the High Priests to explain himself better, they would understand His mission? I never heard he was only thinking of 💰. 🤷🏻‍♀️🙏

The worst betrayal is priests failing to keep to Church teaching and wanting to reshape the Church in man’s image. All the other failings stem from that betrayal.

A fascinating discussion. May I ask a further look at Pilate . I have heard that Pilate is much better thought of in the Eastern trdation then in the Latin rite. Pilate is a model of typical politicians. He is willing to do the right thing if it doesn’t cost him any votes. Can you explain why Pilate is given more respect among the orthodox and eastern rite?

Before reading the Bible, I HATED Pilate! I mean sheer hatred for him...after reading the Bible, I saw that it wasn't Pilate so much, but the regulations that made him do what he did...he did not see Jesus as a threat, what he saw as a threat were the Jews rising up and taking their conquered land back. Pilate gave the people what THEY WANTED, NOT what he felt was the correct thing to do, which was to release Him as HE was innocent. Pilate saw that the Pharisees/Sadducees wanted to keep THEIR PROMINENCE in the Temple, also...THAT is WHY Pilate washed his hands of the decision he made, and, WHY we have this action in our Daily Mass today. God Bless y'all & a Happy, Joyous Easter!!

Best comment I heard was from a priest in .Slovenia. The homily was about the jobs the apostles had before joining Christ. When he got to Judas he said people ask why Jesus had a Judas, he simply said “Every organization has a Judas”. In that instance I recognized every sociopath or narcissist I ever worked with, and in nearly every case their behavior led to their career suicide.😮

Odd and interesting topic. I have always asked myself if Judas betrayal was necessary to the development that was pre-destined. What difference it made? I always asked myself why identify him if he was public, known in public places, everybody eas looking to listen to his teachings. The very farisees questioned him day and night, tried to trick him etc. Was there something legal ot maybe historical behind it?
