There was once an island with wall around it and with free children and then someone came along and said that the walls were keeping the prisoners. And they told them to tear down the walls for their freedom not to be restricted. And now those children without the walls around in the island are huddled in fear and have lost their freedom. The walls are the law of the church and they protect you.

Entertaining to read detractors of the church who apparently cannot distinguish between authority and authoritarianism. Apparently the person of Christ in the Church is to be disregarded. The church is the only fully coherent body of life and belief on the planet. Our human failings can't change this living truth.

What? Jesus never said anything like that nor did Bishop Sheen point out the chapter and verse! He's making this up. Anyone know the chapter and verse in the New Testament that Bishop Sheen is referring to? I will stand corrected if someone will show me the book, the chapter and the verse.

What verse are you referring to?Please clarify yourself, but first do your homework before making such a judgment.

Matthew 20:25-29. Jesus said exactly what bishop Sheen claims. Look it up

The problem is that 1) the church is authoritarian by its very nature, 2) the Catholic church is communist: priests have no private property, and everything is financed with common money, often public money. Soviet or Maoist communism were murderous systems, but Catholicism and theism in general are not their opposite

On both accounts, you seem to missed a very important point that authoritarianism or communism is being imposed on people through duress or or state powers whereas at least the modern church is voluntary. Secondly, sharing does not mean communism. Has it occurred to you priests do not have private property out of their own will, and not being stripped by the State?

george wang There is no doubt that there is no country at present that forces you to have a Catholic faith, but there are forms of pressure and neglect of so-called "second class people" as gays and muslims (in Poland, Hungary, Africa etc.). The Church is responsible for the AIDS epidemic in Africa through its numerous missionaries. It is also politically responsible for the genocide of muslim Tutsi people in Rwanda, the hiding of paedophiles and money laundering. All of these crimes were caused by pressure from the authoritarian power of the bishops and the Pope, because I remind you that the church state still exists and it is the last absolute monarchy. As for communism, there are different shades of it. Some consider communism a sharing of means of production, others a sharing of goods. Nevertheless, communism is an ideal that only small religious communities have managed to achieve, but there are of course countries like China that still call themselves communist, although de facto they allow to have private property. In the Catholic Church the right to private property is very limited - every priest, even the pope must save the property to the church. All financial decisions are collective and so is the money. This has been the case from the beginning of Christianity. I recommend reading the Acts of Apostles Chapter 5, where a man called Ananias is killed for hiding money he earned. Therefore, the church's fight against "communism" is based only on ideological and verbal suppression.

:It's amazing how almost every time there's a video with Catholic content the comment section is riddled with Protestants imposing their own opinions on a video that doesn't even concern them.:
